Family oriented Chinese Seafood & Wuntun Restaurant
Went here with the family and parents tonight. We ordered the usual, which consist of sweet and sour beef tenderloins, honey garlic pork chops, seafood with gai lan, spicy crab and the soup of the day. The food was delicious but the service was sub par. I asked for hot sauce and they forgot. I had to go to another waitress and ask and she plunk it on the table. They took my wife's plate which she was using and did not replace it. When we asked for another plate we gotten napkins instead. Before the meal was completed, the snotty short middle age waitress with round glasses put the fortune cookies and sliced oranges on the table. Hinting to leave already. We had two infants with us and we were still eating. I thought that was rude of her. So when I went up to pay for the bill I put the dinner on my credit card. I was waiting for it to process when the snotty short middle age waitress left and went to the kitchen. She did not say a word to me and just left. I waited till another waitress came and ask her for the slip for me to sign as I thought it went through already. It did not, the waitress could not find the slip for the customer to sign. Finally the snotty short waitress came back and shoo the other waitress away. She said it did not process and made me feel that it was my fault. I told her I do not mind going through the payment process again as long as I am not charged twice. Needless to say she was getting irritated, I could see it in her face as it twitched. The second time did not go through......and her attitude was getting worse. On the third try I was so sick of her poor service that I did not tip on the credit card machine. But somehow it default back to the main menu if you do not put in a tip. On the fourth try I still did not tip as she was getting rude and said that I did not tip. I barked at her back that tips are for good service only. And you did not give us good service. Finally it process and I left. I can not stand in this day and age that people demand tip for poor customer service. They feel that it is entitlement. I have no problem in tipping as long as it is justified. I would recommend this restaurant for the food only.
We were visiting family who lived in this area and had decided on Chinese food for delivery.
This restaurant was in the phone book with a full menu available to order from.
We went with the breaded almond chicken, chicken and green pepper with black bean sauce on chow mein, beef and broccoli, and braised assorted deluxe vegetables.
The phone book menu says that it is free delivery for orders over $15, but I think that my family member was told that it was free over $20. Double check with the restaurant before ordering for delivery as to the charge.
The food arrived within the estimated delivery time and was still hot.
All of the food was reasonably tasty and the portions were generous. There were four hungry adults and two children. There was plenty for all and there were still ample leftovers for lunch the next day for two adults.
The vegetables were done nicely - they weren't overcooked, which destroys their flavour. The beef and brocolli was tasty and had LOTS of beef. The shrimp fried rice was full of medium sized shrimp which were perfect texture. My son LOVES shrimp and there was plenty for everyone in this rice dish.
I had to rate the ambiance as two because there is no option for take out or delivery reviews where the ambiance is not applicable.
If we have another get together, we will happily order from here again.
food and price is great. This place is very convenient, you can drive or take the bus to get there. Food is tastier than other chinese restaurants close by. they offer reasonable prices during lunch time. Better price than going to Mcdonalds. Although the place is not a perfect ambience, but during this times that you need to save money and savor good food, I am recommending this excellent place. I have been a client for more than 10 years now.
i seriously love the food there!!! amazing the location is straight dirt and the service is not good at all.
For the food i would say awsome, overall decent and that is that. I love ethnic/ asian food and there soo much good stuff near by. like urban peppers and their butter chicken OMG love IT soo good like the sweet and sour pork here.
yumyum ok
I stopped into the New Lakeview last night at about 7:30 pm for Sweet and Sour Pork and Egg Foo Young.
The sweet and sour pork (which, incidentally needs to be eaten asap after preparation) was cooked and sat on the counter for nearly half an hour before the egg foo young was done. The waitresses ignored me the entire time, even though I tried to get their attention to ask why it was taking so long.
Then when I got home the food was so bad that I threw it in the garbage rather than eat it! I know it was a waste of $17.00, but good grief, it was better than putting something that poor into my digestive system.
Never Again New Lakeview!!!!!!!

I had two very bad experiences at this restaurant.
1. I had ordered breaded chicken from here and when I took a bite a huge staple possibly from the packaging had made it's way into the chicken and ended up getting stuck in my upper gum. It was painful. I complained and the owner said all they could do was offer me a free rice. I would have expected a full refund... Thinking back to it I should have sued them. What if I choked on it?
2. My niece had ordered some green beans in black bean sauce and chicken. It literally smelt like vomit. We couldn't even eat it as the foul smell was so disgusting. It must have rotted or the sauce had been spoiled.
I refuse to dine here and I would strongly suggest to try out other restaurants in New Westminster BC.
I've been coming here for about 10 years now and it's always been one of my favourite places to come and get some really cheap, but good authentic chinese food. Often times, i'll bring my 3 year old son with me, who loves this place. Let's start by saying that the restaurant itself is not much to look, either from the outside or the inside. It's located in a pretty dingy looking strip mall just off of 6th ave in Burnaby. However, the food is amazing.
I'll normally order the same thing each time, a wonton soup, 10 very large shrimp and pork wontons in a very tasty broth for $2.95. Prices have gone steadily up in the past 5 years, but not more than about $.50 for this dish. I'll also either get the Pan fried rice noodle with beef or Beef Chow Mein. Both dishes are a measly $6.35 each and the plates are just huge!!! Rice noodle is packed with beef and great wok flavour to the noodles, not too oily but just enough soy sauce flavour. The chow mein is excellent too. The mein is pan fried in oil until very crisp. Unlike HOn's whose chow mein has gone downhill for a while now, the noodles aren't all broken up and dry as hell. It is covered in a thick gravy with bok choy and lots of tender beef. Both my son and myself are usuallly stuffed after eating the wonton and dish of noodles. There's tons of items on the lunch special menu that I would love to try, but I am a creature of habit and usually get the same thing, specials from 11 - 4 pm, everyday. Nothing on there more than $8. Lunch for myself or with myself and 3 year old is around $10 + tip, which is a great, considering the amount and quality of food I just consumed. Service is friendly and pretty efficient. They give me both water and tea pretty much without me having to ask, which is nice in a chinese restaurant. It's a good sign that not only are there lots of asians eating here, but lots of non-asians too. Speaks to the tastiness of the food.
Definitely recommended.
I've come to this restaurant a few times with my friends and have always found the food to be good, plentiful, and cheap.
Ambience isn't a major factor in this restaurant - basic Chinese design of packing as many tables and customers as possible into a small space. While the restaurant is clean, it's well-worn.
The multi-course meal is great for big parties (we usually go there with a party of 9 or more), and food appears fast enough to satisfy the biggest appetites.
If you're bringing a big party, reservations are recommended - it's can be a very busy place.
Went there with the wife and kids last weeks. The place was not too busy when we arrived at 6:30pm.
Ordered 4 items and rice - Chicken & Broccoi, Beef Hot Pot, Cod and Tofu Hot Pot and Shrimp with Eggs. Other chinese places I have gone to give a free house soup and dessert afterwards, this place did not.
Overall the meal was okay, but the Beef hot pot andthe Cod and Tofu hot pots had too much MSG in them (had to drink lots of water when I arrived home). Also the beef hot pot was too salty.
The pieces of Cod were small and the beef chuck were small also. I have been to other places that provide better "meat" pieces.
My wife said the Broccoli was to hard.
But my kids did enjoy the Shrimp & Eggs.
W/C was clean
Ambiance was nothing to write home about.
Would I come back, probably not ... I would go back to my tried and true places.
I have been to this restaurant many times. The food is consistently delicious - perfectly cooked, with the right amount of spices - overall, great chinese food! The staff always look rushed..well, it IS a very busy place...but they are efficient and friendly. The ambiance and cleanliness of the restaurant could use some work but I overlook that because their food is so good. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone.
My favorite dishes: Honey Garlic Spare ribs with bone in, Hot and Sour soup, Crab with cream sauce, and Steamed black cod with black bean sauce...mmmmm :)
Went out for Chinese New Year with a Chinese family and friends. We decided to try out this small local restaurant as a change. The family did all of the ordering (in Cantonese) so I was not sure what was going to be coming for our dinner. The soup was the first dish out (as usual) and the broth and seafood was good, but there were so many mushrooms in it that I could not finish it (as I am not fond of mushrooms at all). The other main course dishes then began to arrive, slowly. Found the food to be all right, but some I could not eat, due to the amount of large Chinese mushrooms - some left whole, but most were chopped up and difficult to pick other items out of the dish. I did manage to get enough to eat though, so I did not leave the place hungry. The only complaint I did have about the meal though is that the bowl of steamed rice and the fried rice dish were delivered last and the meal could have been the better for the rice to be served with the other main course dishes. Will I be back - not likely. But it is good to try other restaurants.
Our family goes here frequently for good decent Chinese food, wonton with and without noodles, good beef & rice noodle dishes (i.e. sub chow or guan chow which are my daughter's favourite), rice dishes and more; for lunch and occasionally dinner. Good size portions. We order takeout occasionally too.
Usually busy at lunch and dinner times with people waiting for a table. Decently priced lunch menu is found under the hard plastic table top (11:00am to 3:00pm). Set meals available for dinner or order ala carte. Will accommodate requests for off-menu dishes.
Located in a little strip mall next to a pool hall, parking lot in front (but only 4-5 labeled spots, others for other businesses, simple decor, friendly family oriented staff providing decent service.
