I am surprised this restaurant has not been reviewed. It has been around for years, a solid family restaurant with a good chef. I have been there numerous times for lunch as well as for dinner, and have especially enjoyed the good value lunch items they offer. Service is usually just decent, but if Mr. Smiling Waiter is working that day, you get exceptionally friendly and cheerful service, which makes for a more enjoyable meal.
Not many choices for decent chinese in North Burnaby so this is one of them. Crowd favourites are the beef and brocolli Chow Mein, ginger fried beef and General Tso's chicken. We have come to know the owner and the friendly guy and wish them all the best. I have found another really good chinese restaurant in North Burnaby that has the best chinese food I have tried in the Lower Mainland but I won't divulge since it is pretty small (few seats) and they are pretty busy already. However, this is definitely our 2nd favourite Chinese restaurant in Burnaby.
Second time my wife and I have been here. Second time we were impressed by the service and quality of the food. Every time we spoked to the waiter and/or waitress, we were received with smiles and politeness. Normally, you don't really see this service combo unless you go to a high end restaurant where either your wallet comes out empty or your stomach.
The restaurant itself is a little outdated but other than this, we can't really complain. The peking duck was excellent and generously portioned.
Having been going there since my SFU days which are over 15 years ago. You can't beat the value of their lunch specials. For around $5.00 you get a heaping plate of fried noodles or fried rice. More than enough for lunch as well as a doggy bag. They have a lot of variety for their lunch specials. There is also a waiter there who gives incredibly cheerful and good service.
Delicious food for a quick take out meal. I always get the Combination dinner for 3 which is $30 and comes with Chicken chow mein, sweet and sour pork, beef and brocolli, 3 spring rolls, almond chicken and I will usually add some vegetable chop suey. It is always ready and waiting for me when I go to pick it up. Employees are always friendly.
The lunch special mentioned for $5.50 is for eat in only.
If you want to take out it will be by menu. The menu items were not so cheap. The fried rice for $6.85 was large portion with lots of chicken pieces, but the taste was average. I am new to Burnaby, so I have to try other chinese restaurants before I can recommend this restaurant.
If you're in the North Burnaby area, you need to drop into this unassuming Chinese restaurant. The food is delicious and my family and I have tried many of the dishes at this restaurant and have never been disappointed. People have commented about the "smiling waiter". His name is Stanley and I agree when you are lucky to be there when Stanley is working, you are in luck. Stanley is always cheerful and goes out of his way to make sure you are looked after. Along with the food, Stanley is one of the reasons we go to this restaurant. Give it a try, I'm sure you won't be disappointed.
