Hate to say it...

I know you'll all hate me for raining on the good reviews here.. but I came here for the first time with 2 friends last week after reading all these wonderful comments. A couple of drinks later and no food, we left quite disappointed. But first off, i will have to give credit for their drink menu. Lots of variety, very creative and drinks are refreshing and unique. Not the kind of menu you will find in any other bubble tea place in Vancouver other than Dragonball perhaps. Their food menu speaks differently though - mind you we didn't end up ordering any food. I wanted to try their shrimp gyoza, but they didn't have any. Disappointed. What's weird is that while they don't appear to offer full service (ie taking orders at your table) their food menu suggests otherwise. Fois gras and beef tenderloin? I mean c'mon, who orders those at the COUNTER?? Very weird. And to top it off, the girl behind the counter spoke WAYYYYYYY too softly, it was practically inaudible, and the place wasn't even loud. What's even more annoying was the fact that she didn't seem phased or aware of how hard of a time we had trying to hear her even after our repeated"what?? can you please say that again.." and the way she spoke to us was very indifferent, and very sloppy. I didn't find the place a particularly relaxing/comfortable place to chill. We took our drinks and left for some real grub. I was really hoping to like this place as much as everyone else, but perhaps i just went on the wrong night (it was a tues night).. i hope to come back for a more positive experience next time.

Fresh fruit and freshly steeped tea ?!

Ive been here a couple of times and every time i come in i try to order different things. Their menu is overwhelming, but if you're like me who is pretty indecisive id advise you to ask the barista. They give out good suggestions! I ordered a few milk teas and this is the FIRST time that i've seen a bbt place freshly steep the tea ? WOW ! going that extra mile without using powder ! I personally recommend the Hot Lychee black tea latte and the Strawberry Taro ! Those are my favorites !

Sadness

So much "do not want" in one place. I admire the effort to make a bubble tea place, but there really isn't much here. The "pillow" walls aren't aligned, the potted plants are limp... I ordered a taro slush and it tasted half-melted and watered down immediately after they made it. My friend had what I think was a green tea slush and she said it sucked. She didn't elaborate why exactly that was, but considering she goes to a lot of bubble tea places, I'm sure she knew what she was talking about. The cashier wasn't the friendliest and she just seemed really bored... I like the name of the place though? :-/

Disappointed and overpriced

A lot of people have rated PD as an excellent place to go, however, for the past 5 times that I have been to PD the service was slow since it takes on average about 5 minutes for them to make a drink, they overcharge for drinks and you can get better drinks within a 3km radius, and employees always appear to be having a bad day. Also, I don't understand what's with the chained down stamp (the stamp that they use to redeem 1 drink after 10 purchases) since the chain is significantly larger than the stamp...do they really think someone is going to really steal it? Finally, I don't think the price justifies the purchase. If I'm spending on average, $5 for a drink, which works out to be 30 minutes of work for the average student, I better be getting an amazing drink and some awesome service. None of which I receive.

Great Vibe at Pearl Drops

While the menu to me is a little confusing, it makes up in originality; instead of being your regular, run of the mill bubble tea joint, Pearl Drops actually puts the TEA back into bubble tea (literally!). Highly customizable and full of different options, Pearl Drops has some of the most original drinks I've ever seen on a menu.

FOOD: I don't think they're used to providing hot food on a regular basis, as a friend and I went and it took some time for her to receive her Udon. It wasn't bad, but it wasn't amazing. Definitely here for their teas.
TEAS: outstanding! I've loved every drink I've had from Pearl Drops thus far, and even though it's a bit far for me to get to, I'll take the hike to return there for drinks.
SERVICE: I like how there's usually on person at the cash and one or two making drinks. It ensures the whole process goes by faster, and the guy running the till is often very helpful for people who haven't been to pearldrops before and can't tell that 'jasmine tea' actually equates to a higher quality green tea that their used to. Very helpful, and always offers a suggestion if I'm stuck.
AMBIANCE: pretty chill, actually, even though it's usually extremely busy. I like to just sit and relax there. I like the decor, too.

Overall, I think this is an interesting take on your regular bubble tea.

PDT is usually a good bet for me whenever I'm in the area and craving fresh bbt. My biggest pp is they don't have any food - again! I was craving their infamous coconut curry chicken, but was told several times that they weren't serving food! Their drinks are still good, for the most part. I heard there's been a change of ownership. Maybe the new owners don't want to serve food? Too bad, cause it was good when it lasted.

Good Find

I would have never thought there to be a place like this in the neighborhood. PDT serves some pretty good drinks with a big emphasis on making fresh tea (kudos to that). Too many bubble-tea shops cut on quality now-a-days. My fav has got to be their matcha with fresh taro - I mean, OMG! who would have thought? They got a lot of other creative things on the menu. Their coconut curry chicken on rice is a sure hit with me and my friends too. I will warn you in advance, like the other reviewers, its not a typical bubble-tea joint, but definately worth your visit and hard earned money.

Weird Matcha Cheesecake
By joyfood of surrey (7 Reviews)
Submitted Sunday, April 6, 2008 - 10:29pm [Dine in]

I was having cravings for good bubble tea and I remembered all the good reviews for this place. It looked really nice inside. Service was okay. I mean it's more like a self-serving system; you go up to the counter and tell them what u want. How bad the service can be?
After reading all the listing of teas in the menu, I chose strawberry mango slush with lychee blueberry jelly drops. The drink was good, but the texture of jellys was a little off; it wasn't jelloy enough. I also ordered a up-side down matcha cheesecake. I was expecting it would be full of green tea flavour, but the colour wasn't even GREEN!! And the cheese that they used was odd. It was more like whipped cream with extra fat.
So I just want to warn those peolpe who expect better do not expect too much from them.

Pearl Drops Rocks! Their products are always consistently super tasty. Everyone knows them for their bbt and how top-notch they are. My fav has always been their fresh strawberry mango slush - no syrup, only the good stuff. Sometimes I go for their tea cocktails if I'm in for a treat. They make their only jellies with real fruits too - HOW COOL IS THAT! I can't get enough of their beef tenderloin - super soft and tasty. (the plating is not as good as other times ;() but still good:). I can't wait to try the other foods. They even got froie gras on their menu! How many bbt restaurants can say that? What r u waiting for? - Try it for yourselves. It's definately not like the other slap-stick bbt restaurants.

the bbtea, teas, and other beverage looks awesome.. i want to try each of them lol
i tried their food, it was sophisticated. The chef plates the food into a high end restaurant style. Love the ambiance of the restaurant because it is not your typical bbtea cafe. However, they need to have more tables and chairs -_-" , the place is a bit small.

A new level of bubble tea

If you're used to the chain bubble tea places like Bubble World you're in a for real surprise. A perfect example is their organic pearl milk tea. I was shocked....SHOCKED to see that they make it with steeped (for precisely three and a half minutes) loose black tea and you can really taste the difference. Also....no powdered milk/coffee whitener in sight! Today I ordered the hot organic chocolate tea latte served with a marshmallow and cinnamon shavings with get this....a stick of cinnamon tucked in the sleeve for aroma! Awesome. I'm drinking it right now and it's like a light hot chocolate with slight black tea notes. The owner/chef/barista really cares about his menu and the staff tastes each beverage before it goes out. Quality is obviously a high priority. I haven't tried their food menu yet but I will soon and let y'all know.

I've been going to Pearl Drops since it opened - mostly because it's fairly close to my house, (walking distance,) and I've enjoyed their drinks and service, and occasionally, their food.

They're still a fairly new business, but they're constantly expanding and growing, and their menu has become quite extensive with no signs of slowing down. They're now offering green tea cakes and "tea art", both of which I have yet to try out, but am definitely looking forward to.

The atmosphere is very cozy, though at the same time it has a fairly modern feel to it. It could be bigger, but given the space it has, it's designed fairly well.

If you decide to go, try to Hot Hazelnut Latte. It's definitely one of my favourites.

After some considerable recommendations from friends, I finally tried this place. I thought it just another new bubble place. I can't believe it took me this long! This place has got the freshest thinking I've ever encountered. By fresh, I mean everything. They got a huge selection of fresh fruits and exotic fruits, fresh teas (not the bag kinds), fresh latte, the works. The wait can be a bit long, but I guess if you want the fresh stuff it pays off - at least the staff are nice about it. They actually talk to you here.
You gotta try it - NOW! Don't wait like I did.

Delish food but portions too small

I went to pearl drops about a month ago or so.. It was freezing cold and there was no heat in there. I tried the taro bubble tea and I wasn't happy with it. Ive tried taro at several other places and I found this below average.

On the other hand I ordered the cinnamon beef with rice.. I think... It was so tasty but the portion is way too small and pricy!! Honestly I rather go to bbworld. Ambiance and service was great though.

I wouldn't return unless I had no choice!

Went there out of the blue and decided to try something different. My friend and I were upset that there wasn't a full menu available, but when our Green Curry Coconut Chicken came...we quickly forgot about the lack-age of menu items. The food was great and the taro matcha milkshakes were awesome! Desert topped everything with a light and delicate matcha cheesecake with chocolate cookie crumbles, walnuts and a raspberry - mango syrup on the side. All in all a very surprising and good bubble tea house.

When i went to pd, it was usually witha bunch of friends.. id say 99% of the staff are nice. the wait wasnt really a problem, since we went there after school..
A drink that my best friends favoured was Fresh Taro Milky Shake... it was really good.
And the one time i ordered food, my friend made it for me.. and it turned out quite well, didnt wait too long...
The only bubble i ABSOLUTELY hated from there are the. 350 Milky Flavours ones...(not too shrue bout pricing) I didnt have enough money, so i ordered that.. and it tasted like SUGAR. it was so darn sweet with barely any taro flavours in it.

after 08 summer of not going there... me and my friends are always talking, we should go there sometimes... and the teahouse would be empty/decent.. never jammed pack. =/ iwonder what they will think of, after trying their favs again..

TEAHOUSE not BBT

If you're looking for bubble tea, don't come here. If you want genuine quality tea then please do come. My friends and I discovered this place when it first opened and we fell in love instantly. I mean we love our bubble tea but pearl drops tea are soothing and amazing. I don't mind waiting for them to make the tea, infact I love watching them make it in front of me. I came here twice a week if not more but now i am just too busy as it is far from home but when i feel like i need a comforting cup of tea, this is the place. My friends and I got to know the owners as we were there that often and they are just amazing people.
Pearl Drops have set themselves apart from Bubbleworld, Estea, and so forth and they are doing a great job. This is true tea.

A Big Difference!

Submitted Wednesday, October 24, 2007 - 6:34pm [Dine in]

After having been disappointed at so many other bubble tea / teahouse establishments, I almost missed this gem. Pearl Drops is completely original in their approach to making drinks. They serve tea, bubble tea, tea lattes all in a well-crafted manner. Their dedication to their skills shine through in their drinks. I read the other reviews and agree with the ones stating how creative and fresh their drinks are. If you want fresh fruits, teas, or anything premium quality bubble tea, then Pearl Drops is your best bet. We've been back at least four times already, and we live all the way across town. As for the recent critic about their strawberry banana slush, I think you are too used to being served artificial ingredients so fresh may taste strange at first. But, definately continue with your daily dose or pearl drops because your taste buds will thank you in the end. The owners seem to be very proud of their products and very community-minded as well. This is a very good sign of an establishment on the road to success. I hear that they are looking to open a food menu as well. If it's anything like their drinks, then it well be a whole package success. Give this place a try. It's a big difference!

I've just moved into the neighborhood, and I asked around if there was a good bbt place. Sure enough, most people pointed me out to Pearl Drops. They surely lived up to their reputation for great bbt drinks. The thing that stood out most was their quality and care put into their product - something that more places should make note of. I've tried a few of their fruit slushes and milk shakes, and all of them very clean and very tasty. I'll sure be back to try the other items on their vast menu.

not just your average bubble tea

Submitted Wednesday, March 14, 2007 - 2:12pm [Dine in]

I've been frequenting Pearl Drops quite a lot - a little too much some would say. So I guess you can say that I am another one of their loyal customers. I just got around to trying their top-of-the line tea drinks. I tried their Solar Flare, and let me tell you, it's nothing like anything I've ever had before! They've got these premium drinks they make with their teas and exotic fruits. Definately give it a try (don't let price make your judgement). I think it's fair enough to say that Pearl Drops has my vote for best tasting tea and most creativeness for any tea place in town. Their staff are always friendly, and their service always impeccable. Keep up the good work guys. You'll be seeing me soon.
