I have been to Papa Joe's a few times over the past year or so. They serve tasty pasta, but the service was so slooow. One time we waited over 40 min. for our food. The last time we were there two days ago, we waited 30 min. I guess that was an improvement somewhat. I guess I will go back if I feel like pasta and am not in a hurry.
I love(d) the pizza here, so it was a natural choice when my boyfriend and I wanted a place to go for dinner in that neighborhood. Plus, we had the entertainment book coupon.
I don't know if they changed ownership or what, but the once excellent and friendly service they provided has turned into unprofessional laziness. We walked in, and the young fellow running the place at the moment seemed confused of what he's supposed to do. He didn't even look like he was a server - he wore baggy jeans and a wrinkly tee. He told us to sit wherever.
I couldn't help but notice that there were only 3 others there dining. We walked up to the most decent looking table and just as I was taking my seat, I noticed the horror right away. the cutlery on the table had so many dirty water marks on it, it looked like the cutlery had a "hammered" texture. Instead of washing the cutlery, they probably just used a soaking wet dirty towel to wipe them down. Also my boyfriend's cutlery had leftover melted cheese remnants stuck on it. And to top it off, both napkins were dirty - visibly dirty. Black smears on it.
I couldn't believe my eyes, how could you not be embarassed about this in your restaurant? I thought the server would see this and change them up for us, but he came to drop off menus and left. Eventhough we were obviously looking at the cutlery with disgust.
We had to excuse ourselves and left before ordering. Server still had no clue and didn't care that we were leaving.
The pizza here is still very delicious, I would have to reconsider how clean they are with handling food, since with delivery, you only see the end product.
Came here a while ago, and it seems that the eat in part of this restaurant is almost always closed, I guess they need to find a waitress?
Food is still pretty decent, but I have had better pizza and pasta around town for the same price. Lasagna is still good, and the service is decent for a take out place.
Perhaps I was really hungry when I gave the first review, but nothing tasted quite as good as the first time. Also the rare times that the eat in is open, its dark and too warm or too cold.
We have ordered pizza several times there and it was good. So we decided to try the dine in experience.
We were left speechless to say the least! There was no direct entrance to the restaurant. We had to go in the Pizza place entrance and then through a side door to the enter to the restaurant.
The place was VERY DIM..I'm not sure if they had christmas lights but it was so dim that I had to be careful where I walked.
The glass & cutlery was not clean at all and was a bit disgusting. Place was dead empty on a weekend night.
One of my plates was an oriental type plate. What the...? Why didnt' they replace it with a regular white plate?
There was one staff there and he occassionally left the room to do something else, leave just us in the restaurant. What if we needed service? Do we have to wait for him?
The food was decent. Service and setting was horrible. Would NOT go there again for dining in. Take out ok, but no dine in.
I couldn't wait to finish my food and leave.
It was pure torture in there even with the entertainment book coupon.
my boyfriend and i had a coupon for this restaurant and we considered going in for diner the. location is really good right across the street from the movie theater we walked in and there was no one to greet us when the waiter finally came out he told us to sit where ever so we did. upon seating i notice there were crumbs all over my chair. We looked over the menu a finally decided on two pastas. my boyfriend ordered the BBQ chicken pasta and I ordered the chicken Parmesan. when the food finally arrived i thought it was a lot for the value and was quite happy with the way the food was seasoned. BUT half way thought my meal i noticed the the chicken was completely RAW... my boyfriend called the waiter over and we showed him the chicken. he then began to argue with us that it was cooked witch it was not it was rubbery and raw as chicken can get. what ever you do don't order the chicken Parmesan.
My first visit there was about 1 month ago, and I still remember the friendly service we were given. The service is very personable and friendly. And what makes it better is the food. Their pasta was tasty with large portions, with just the right amount of sauce. I'll have to go back and try their pizza!
i called up to order some pasta, and was told there is a $15 min for delivery. fair enough. i had to order hummus and pita, and a coke to make the min. it took exactly 1 hour for my food to be delivered. this was especially bad, considering it was 7 pm on a sunday, and i live a 2 min drive away. then there's the food itself: not too impressive. the vegetarian pasta was sub-par to what i could make at home with jarred sauce from the store, and there was a good 1 1/2 cups of liquid at the bottom of the container. i understand that veggies give off water when cooked, but come on! the hummus was oily and bland, and the pita was just tough and tasteless.
overall: pathetic delivery time. in my mind, there's no excuse for it taking a whole hour, considering the day and time i ordered, and my proximity to them. and the food? let me put it this way- the tastiest part of my order was the can of coke.
if that's anything to go on, i have trouble believing that their pizza is anything to rave about . . .
I was there last night and read some reviews on this website prior to going. I was expecting a long wait for the food but it wasn't too bad. The restaurant is surprising in the following aspects: small and dark, quiet - we were the only people eating there on a Friday night, dirty - all the seats had crumbs on it and the walk to the washroom is pretty scary, poor service - our food was sitting at the food window for a good 5 minutes before the waiter noticed, extremely cold - there was a fan running and the temperature in the restaurant was pretty low. By the way, there is only one person working on the restaurant side and he's on the computer or talking on the phone most of the time so this restaurant definitely caters to take-out and delivery. Just in case you were wondering, he was friendly and courteous but was definitely not putting a high priority in taking care of us.
The food quality was what we expected. The pizza had a lot of toppings and tasted good. The lasagna was mostly pasta with not a lot of meat or filling. For the price, the portions were pretty big.
If you are looking for a restaurant where you just want to hang out with friends and be left alone, this might be the place for you. If you are looking to have a place to eat where you want to be taken care of, this is not the place. I have also never been comfortable in a restaurant where I am the only guest.
It was about 2 months ago that I went to eat at the restaurant. I remembered the meat pasta and the lamb chops were tasty and the portions were big. The price was lower than the average Italian restaurant. Overall, it was good value. I would recommend Papa Joe's.
Just wanted to write a note to say that their site is confusing in that there is a section that says 2 Pizza Specials, which I took to mean that you get 2 pizzas. (Ie 2 for 1) The first two selections are 2 for 1 but the Pizza Masterpiece is NOT. Confusing!! It should be under the regular pizza category. When I called to inquire before placing my order, the guy on the phone was a bit of a grump too. Also, when selecting the create your own pizza, it's not clear if cheese is a selected topping or is automatically included. (so when you select cheese is it EXTRA cheese? or if you don't select it, it will come without cheese?)
I ordered anyway because I remember it being really good. Awesome sauce. Got confirmation call promptly. I wouldn't want to eat in there...a good candidate for restaurant makeover! :)
Can't speak about the dine in experience other than I love the fact you can have a beer or two in the take out area while you wait for your order. Very friendly staff, they are very good for remembering your name or your address when you call and for the money this is the best pizza in the area. I do like Romana's down the street as well but their pizza is way overpriced.
I call this "man pizza" ..thick, lots of toppings, meat and cheese with great crust and sauce. I wouldn't even consider going back to one of the franchise pizza places ( dominos etc. )
The Papa Joe's Super Sub is unreal, best sandwich I have ever had.
I love pizza, but not their pizza. I wasn't the greatest because crust was thin and a little dry, though i think that is what actual pizza is supposed to be like. The people who work here were great. They were so nice and really cool about everything. Though this was not my favorite pizza, i would definetly go again because good service is really hard to find.
