Cantonese & Szechuan food
Not one to usually complain , this is the second time lately ordering from here , the food was worse than reheated mall food fare Chinese... Not the Ming Kee I used to know ... Will not order again. Items ordered were sweet and sour pork , Szechwan chicken, hot and sour soup(which was good),and steamed rice. This isn't the hot and fresh cooking I used to get from here.
I've been coming here for a little while now (maybe a couple of years) and things have changed quite a bit. I think in the last few years, they've had changes in owners and most recently have changed to a new family. This is worth a second chance if you enjoy Chinese food. After reading some of the reviews below, it's sad how much this place as changed from being good and being disappointing. But the most recent take over has changed the food quite a lot.
I've recently order a delivery from them and, man, has the service changed! There are two sons that work there with their parents. They welcomed my call with a little bit of background and seeing that I've order from them before and had me on record, they told me about the change in owners. The chef now is their father who has had over 35 years experience in cooking. The results of this experience shows!
One of my favorite dishes is the Singapore Vermicelli (I believe it's #38. I have no idea what it is that they did differently, but the overall flavor has increased and intensified. The sprouts, shrimp and pork were all very fresh and the rice noodles were nice and (as the Italians say) el dante. Not mushy and wet like some of the other times I've had in the past.
Their meat and veggie dishes have also improved as well. Prawns with Snow Peas is by far the freshest in the business! The mastery in the way it's cooked and presented, even in a take out container, is splendid. The peas were still crisp when it reached my house, and the prawns were cooked perfectly.
Anyone craving for Chow Mein? Their chow mein changed as well. I like the Beef with Black Bean Sauce on Crispy Egg Noodles. Again, fresh broccoli cooked but still crisp and fresh, something I really appreciate in good Chinese food. Some places tend to over cook their veggies and it becomes mushy to the palette.
The change in Chef definitely shows. The delivery service is still fast and quick. The food is delivered in warming bags and the food is hot when it gets to my place.
Overall, this has been a great experience compared to the past. I'll continue ordering from here and I hope they stick around. It has become one of the best Chinese food places I've been to by far. Previously I may have given it a 2/5 but definitely deserves my 5/5 rating. Thanks Ming Kee!
I have been ordering from this place for years and used to love it. The food was great and of a good value and the service was good too. My last experience was so terrible that I actually created an account here just so that I could tell you about the terrible service.
I always place my order online and then they call to confirm everything so my address is not a secret. They even charge me a little extra becasue I am beyond the 10km delivery radius. This has never been an issue in the past.
We orderd from here a few weeks ago and the food was not as good as it had been before. We were a bit perplexed and a little put out becasue we had been telling the friends who were over for dinner that this was the greatest place ever. They told us about a place that they order from and we confidently said that this was the "best" Chinese food they would find here. It wasn't great and we were left eating our words (with our not great food).
We decided that maybe that had just been an off night and so we ordered from tehm again this last weekend. After we had confirmed the order, they called us back to remind us that extra charges would apply because we were a little farther out and we agreed.
The delivery guy told us to "never order form them again" becasue we were too far for him to drive when he arrived ahead of schedule. We explained that we had been customers for years and he said that was impossible becasue he had never delivered to us before. He said again that we should never order from them again and left.
I called the manager to see if there was a problem with our order and he said that we were farther and had been charged for the additiona distance. I asked why we had not been told that we couldn't order and he just kept saying that it would cost us more money.
Considering the fact that their food isn't as good as it used to be and now we have rude delivery drivers on top of it, I don't think we'll be ordering from this place again.
I tried this restaurant after reading the review below. Tucked away of Canada Way, it was a pleasant surprise. I presume you could eat in (the tables were neat and clean but there were only three), but it is certainly worth the slightly higher price for take out. Fresh, crunchy greens accompanied the House Chop Suey and the ginger beef was spicy and flavourful. I couldn't detect any MSG either. I will certainly be ordering from here again as the service was prompt (five minutes between order time and pick up) and it was well well worth it!
I was having a bad day yesterday and ordered myself some Chinese food as a treat. The gentleman on the phone was very pleasant and let me substitute green peppers for mushrooms on one of my dishes. The food came within 30 mins and was very hot.
The food was FANTASTIC!! I loved the dishes I ordered and even the free mixed veggies with cashew nuts was fabulous. Great job to the staff at Ming Kee!
I love how I can re-use the containers. Very handy!!
