Yep, that's what we found. Monday to Friday, they have a lunch-time buffet for $8.95. Items kept changing...kung pao prawns gave way to pizza slices. Peroigies were replaced bybaked potatoe wedges with cheese. There was a nice salad bar included, also soup (it looked like cream of mushroom today). The starches were rice and chow mein, served with curried chicken, beef ribs, sitr-fry veggies, roasted chicken (good), veggie spring rolls (meh), crispy wings, prawns. By the time we got there, 12:30 or so, the prawns were pretty picked-over, and were not replenished. Still, for $8.95, not a bad spread.
We sampled the house-brewed pale ale, and found it nice, maybe a little 'hoppy".
The room itself was pleasant and clean. There is an outside deck with a bit of a view, and it was packed on a sunny Friday noontime. Service was pretty prompt, and delivery was swift. They have live music on the weekend, but just sports on big screen TV's at lunch.
Overall, a most pleasant pub experience. A nice room, reasonable food and ale.
Having just come back from another outing at Marine pub, I can honestly say this is one of Burnaby's better breweries. I've been here a couple times and never left displeased.
The food is great, most times I've only had appies though. Tonight we all took advantage of 1/2 priced appies before 6pm and ordered a bunch of wings. Unlike most pub-wings, these weren't the shrivelled dry and tiny kind. They were actually quite big and juicy! The fries that came with burgers were quite tasty as well - nicely seasoned. I've also had their zuchinni sticks and nachos before, which were quite large in size. At under $5/appy (appy nights), you really can't complain about much!
The ambiance is cozy, but really loud! Kinda looks like an inside of a barn and there is use of lawn furniture (which is a little odd). They could probably use more chairs and tables as there is a lot of wasted space and it's hard to find a seat.
Service was a turn-off tonight. I understand the need to rush in such a fast-paced place, but I felt like the server was rushing us. She came around and asked if we were done yet or if we wanted to order more, then proceeded to clean the table in a hurry (literally grabbed a glass the second a co-worker put it down). Eventhough she rushed us, she still took forever grabbing a take-out container and our bills. It was a really awkward situation.
Overall, food is good and with such great prices, I can take a little service abuse.
Not the greatest food in the world. Had 3 different appies. The onion rings came frozen out of a bag into the deep fryer and tasted like it. The honey garlic ribs were too dry and should have been labeled riblets not ribs. Teriyaki wings were the best of the bunch. The $7.99 steak dinner was worth about $8.00. Service was pretty much on the ball. Restroom was clean. Too many places to try before returning here.
I attended a fundraiser at the Marine Pub recently with some friends. It was a Saturday night, and there was live music for most of the night.
I had a chance to glance at the actual menu, and the offerings were quite impressive. Our burgers were nicely done, on a fresh bun with the standard lettuce and tomato. The fries were freshly made.
The Marine Pub also brews their own beer, which the boys seemed to like as they kept on ordering more.
The drink specials were great as well - I believe there were more types of cocktails and drinks than there were dishes in the alread expansive food menu!
I was quite satisfied with my food that night, and would return to watch a UFC fight or hockey game.
I've also been to the pub for their weekend brunch - the selection is also enormous. There are ribs, ham, an omelette station, chicken, an assortment of veggies and Chinese food, and a pancake station as well. Would definately drop by again after a marathon or 10k (Sun Run) run.
Kudos to the owners for bring this establishment to life.
My bf and I come here once in awhile for their tasty wings. What makes the wings so great? The size..the batter...the crispiness..the sauce..and the price! We usually come here on wing nights (Wednesday's or Friday's) when they're on special.
Aside from the wings, the rest of the menu is your standard pub fare: pizza, salad, burgers...etc.
The drinks: average priced and nothing spectacular.
The service: we don't go there for service....just for the wings....if you rated this place on service alone, well, I just wouldn't go.
The ambiance: standard pub....but they did recently replace their tables and chairs..which is a lot nicer than the plastic patio furniture they used to use.
The value: excellent since they have specials every day!
Was looking for a breakfast alternative in Burnaby and decided to try this place out after seeing the menu online with decent selection.
Unfortunately, once we got there, the staff failed to greet us or acknowledge our presence for several minutes of us standing there. They were chatting at the bar, and there were only a few tables in the restaurant.
Once we finally got told to seat ourselves, the coffee and the food was barely passable. You can't really screw up scrambled eggs and toast, but the condiments that came with were obviously old. The table obviously hadn't been wiped down prior to us sitting down (it was dirty with coffee ring marks) and the service was really poor. Our waitress not only made us feel like unwelcome, but she didn't smile once.
Even a McD's breakfast would be better.
I will definitely not ever be going back.
Went on a Sunday, looking forward to trying the breakfast buffet. It was only 9.95 so thought I would give it a try. Walked in,no hostess..no prob. Stood at the bar and finally got the female bartenders attention,as she was engaged with a patron at the bar. Asked were I should sit..she said anywhere. Restaurant wasn't very busy. Nice atmosphere though..best part of my visit.Decent outside patio too. Cut my own roast beef as no one was tending the smallish buffet ares..lol. Asked about the omelete station as the was no one there either..A cook came out 5 minutes later and made me a decent shimp and cheese omelete. Put some waffles and potatoes on my plate..even though there was steam coming up off the buffet serving trays,my potatoes and waffles couldn't even melt butter..they were stone cold. Bacon was like greasy shoe leather..very tough!! Roast beef very tough also. Waitress came to my table 15 minutes after I started eating. Asked what I would like to drink..ordered a coke with no ice..15 minutes later my coke with ice arives..lol.The staff here is ASLEEP!! Or have no idea about customer service. Clearly they don't need tips at this establishment.
For a brew pub, they have one of the least imaginative beer menues I've encountered in any major city. Most of their premise brewed beer is hard to distinguish from a standard Molson's or Labatts product, which seems to me to negate the point of being a brew pub. On the upside the food is excellent, particularly their Sunday brunches with omelettes and waffles. Service can been a little snotty at times. In the summer the deck is an excellent place to hang out.
I have to say that the food is terrible, the menu is plain and copied from other restaurants but done quick.. i.e. everything is frozen to order. I cannot say much for people here. All times the service was weal and didn't help out by comping a few of their coworkers mistakes. It is a brotherhood. They were strange and stranger and I feel bad that I had to apologize to my co-workers for poor service and a less than appealing menu.
My gf and I decided to try this place, as I had been here a long time ago and we were both craving some cheap wings. Fridays are definitely a great night to go because wings are only 30 cents each and the pizza is 1/2 price.
We ordered the terriyaki, honey garlic, and barbecue wings and the New York pizza. The wings were great and, like a previous reviewer already mentioned, are not your typical pub wings. They actually had meat on them and were really tasty. Definitely a great value for wing lovers. My gf really loved the pizza, which was loaded with toppings and tons of cheese. We also ordered soft drinks (we don't drink - ironic, I know, for going to a pub), which we didn't think were refillable, but which the waitress came and refilled out of nowhere. That's anothe plus in my book.
As for the ambiance, on Fridays, they have a live band playing. They were good and played some good riffs; the only problem is that it's really hard to hear each other and you find yourself shouting to be heard. Other than that, the place wasn't too packed, and has a better atmosphere than your usual pub. Not too crazy and rowdy, but a good place to just get some cheap food and unwind.
Overall, we were stuffed and happy, and will definitely be coming back for their Friday specials. This is definitely one of the better pubs out there.
