L.A. Sushi is a great little neighborhood sushi shop at the top of 10th in the Crest Shopping Centre.
Stopped in this little strip mall joint. It was busy at lunch but not too busy.
The free green tea was totally funky - it tasted kinda like burnt old coffee or something. Once I tasted the miso soup and found it had the same funky background taste I figured it was the water somehow. Whatever, I left both.
The California roll was ok but the dynamite roll was one of those that are way too big to fit in your mouth, so it falls apart. If you try to cut or rip it first it agains falls apart because of the nori. Either way it was unpleasant. It also has some weird light brown sauce on it. FInally the deep fried prawn in it was cold and soggy. It did however sport avocado and not cucumber which is good.
The rice on both rolls was strangely mushy. The rolls were also preprared I might add and just cut when you order.
NOthing was TOTALLLY gross but if I woke up with food poisoning tomorrow I would not be surprised. The whole meal just left a samll "ew" in my mouth. Would not go back.
This place is hidden way up at the top of 10th Avenue in the Crest Shopping Centre on the New West - Burnaby border. Many people drive by it every day on their wy to somewhere else, but it is worth a stop, if my short visit is any indication. I went at lunch and ordered their House Roll. I always do this on my first visit to a sushi restaurant since I believe a house roll should be treated as the litmus test of a sushi restaurant by both its proprietors and customers. Mine was excellent. It had tuna, salmon, crab, a white fish and advocado: all standard ingredients but remarkably fresh for such a little hole in the wall. I suspect the locals are keeping this place a closely guarded secret. Service was friendly and the place is clean with a broad and well assorted menu. Will be back and will report if any slippage or need to upgrade marks.
The food is fresh and taste really good. The tea is free and taste really good for someone who knows more about tea. The service is very friendly. The chef even takes the time to greet you and the warm welcome makes you feel that your are valued as a customer. They sometimes give you extra food without even asking. This is a token of their appreciation for your support. The price is just right. In fact, cheaper than other restaurants since I've been to a lot. This is a great place for me to go for emergency food when I run out of ideas on what to feed my family for dinner or when friends suddenly call to say they're coming over. The restaurant never failed me. You put an order in and it's ready in 20 minutes. I recommend this place to all my friends in the area who loves Sushi. I give it 4.5 stars
