King Mahal serves traditional, authentic Indian cuisine featuring an All You Can Eat $9.99 lunch buffet Monday - Friday.
My husband and I dined here on Valentine's Day and the food was amazing as usual! From the outside this place doesn't look like much but inside you will find some of the best, if not, THE best Indian food in Burnaby. The service is excellent and the staff very friendly. I have never seen this place busy and am amazed that the word hasn't spread. The food is to die for. Service and quality of food has been consistant each time. I love the Vegetable Pakoras and their Eggplant Bharta is the best I have had. We have tried a variety dishes here over several visits and have enjoyed each one immensely. We always have leftovers to take home too! Don't hesitate to check it out.
I have ordered take-out from this restaurant twice now and both times I have been quite happy with my order. The first time I ordered butter chicken (which comes with rice) and 4 orders of naan. The second time I ordered the lamb (which also comes with rice), but only ordered 2 orders of naan this time because 4 was way too much. Their sauces are so rich and delicious. You have a choice of ordering your food mild, medium or hot - I ordered my food medium ... and by the kick that I got from the medium, I will be sure to stay far, far away from the HOT version.
I only had about 4 pieces of chicken and saved all my stomach space for the naan ... dipping it into the butter chicken sauce - it was so good. The lamb was even better - so tender. The sauce was so aromatic and thick with spices. I stuffed myself silly dipping my naan into the sauce.
I felt bad that each time I went in to pick up my food, the restaurant was empty. They have only been open for a few months, so hopefully word will get around about their delicious food so that the next time I am in there, I won't be the only customer they are serving.
Each meal came to under $20 and I had left-overs for the next day, which is well worth it for me. They also have a lunch buffet for $9.99. I will have to give that a try if I am in the area for lunch.
The King Mahal has to be my favourite Indian restaurant in all of Vancouver. The food is consistently outstanding, beautifully spiced, perfectly portioned, and well priced. I highly recommend their lamb korma paired with the garlic naan bread----to die for. It is a family run business with great personality's for delivery people and phone staff. Spread the word!
Great food, superb service... they have one of the best tasting preparation cuisines around. Went a bit anxious to try it but came out really satisfied and full. Butter chicken with naan is epic, so is the rice pudding. Food was served quite warm, which is rare to find these days. Service was fast and efficient. Overall, nice and hygienic, staff were courteous beyond doubt. Must try at least once.
Has no one heard about the good food at this place yet? We were the only customers in the restaurant the night that we were there, although it was a Monday night so almost any restaurant would have been quiet I guess. Apparently these guys do a lot of take-out and delivery and they're busy for the lunch buffet. We started out quite unsure of the place given that it was empty, but the server was very friendly and helped us order some of their best dishes, the food was very good - especially the King Vegetable Korma and the tandoori meat, and we left very pleased with the meal. The mango lassi is the only item we wouldn't order again as it was too thin for our tastes.
I have been lunching in the Heights area of Burnaby for years and have never had this restaurant on my radar. After reading a review here, I stopped in for a late lunch and tried the buffet. I am not generally a fan of the buffet, but it's a good way to get a lay of the land. The food is excellent, staff is friendly and you can't beat the value - $10.
There are a few Indian restaurants in the area and this the best.
It's not much to look at from the outside, but it is well worth a visit!
We've ordered takeout from here a few times, always delicious. I especially like the chicken korma. The samosas are very good too, light and crispy and tasty. Every entree comes with a container of rice. Good value for the money.
We have eaten in the restaurant once. It was fine, the ambiance was just OK, and the serving size seemed smaller than the takeout. The service was excellent.
After Bombay Beat closed I needed to find a new indian place. I have dined at this restaurant probably around 6-8 times and I have never had a disapointing meal!
I usually get a vegetarian dish and my boyfriend will get a dish with meat. The vegetable korma and jalfrezie are soooo good. We really like the samosas or pakoras to start! For the main dish they give a big portion size so you will likely have some left overs for the next day.
I have never been to the buffet, just for a regular sit down dinner. The owner and server seem very nice and the service is always good. The restaurant is clean but it doesn't have much decor going on inside. It can be empty sometimes which made us nervous upon our first visit, but the food is great and is worth the visit!
Had the lunch buffet for $ 10.00 .
Excellent butter chicken and tandoori chicken.
Also , loved the chips dipped in tamarind sauce....
Great end to buffet with Indian sweet, GULAB JAMUN in syrup.
Wonder customer service with friendly owner and very nice chef!
Thank you!!! Will be back for repeat lunch when in the Burnaby Heights area!!!
Went for a quite dinner with my friends at this establishment. Ordered four chicken biryanis since we already heard positive reviews about the dish. We were quite disappointed when the dishes turned out to be quite the opposite. Since I also ordered a takeaway as well I decided to talk to the manager regarding the mediocre dish. Maybe he did not understand my words and thought I was being offensive. He walked over to our table and started arguing about the price of ingredients, labor etc. We took it quietly since we understood the manager was not used to getting feedback from customers. However, the waiter serving us turned very aggressive and demanded that we leave, stating that we did not respect the establishment and the manager. However, it is well within our rights to provide feedback, which we did politely. It was a very disheartening experience for us since we were asked to leave the premises immediately and our payment was also turned down. This might be a rare occurrence at King Mahal but nevertheless showcases their unprofessional service. Please have your meal with caution.
