Quiet little restaurant located on East Hastings Burnaby offering an extended menu to include a wide selection. Family run and operated.
Being a breakfast lover, I was over-joyed when I found out about Bon's off Broadway. Where can you get breakfast for under $3 besides Vegas? But after eating there a few times, I felt sick from all the heavy grease in their dishes and stopped going.
I have since found another great restaurant offering the same deal. All-day breakfast for only $2.95 at Jane's! For $2.95 you get 2 eggs, potatoes, toast and jam and a choice of 3 bacon, sausage or ham.
At Bon's, you're served a plate of breakfast on a layer of browned grease. At Jane's, no grease.
I'm also excited about the other items on their menu. It seems nothing is over $7. If you're no in the mood for breakfast, they offer sandwiches, burgers, chinese food and specials.
The server is always friendly and it's a great place, from what I've seen, to become a regular at.
Went on the sunday morning prior to the hockeye game. They have a breakfast special for $3.95 and you get 2 eggs, hashbrowns, toast and bacon or susage. I did not have any meat so they offered an extra egg or more hashbrowns. The breakfast was not bad but what do you expect for $3.95. Coffee was not bad. They had many other options and I will try these next time. i like this place compared to Bon's off Broadway. I will try a sandwich next time or other breakfast items. They also had steak and eggs for $7.95. Looked like many of the patrons were regulars there.
Mrs. C and I were heading out for a day of shopping and we needed fortification. We hadn't been to Jane's in a while so we decided to make a visit. The restaurant hasn't changed much since our last visit, and it still has the ripped red vinyl booths and the rest of the crappy old restaurant decor that shouts out "cheap food here". Fine with me. At least it was clean.
We ordered a breakfast special with ham for my beloved co-diner, and a toasted western omelet for me. The special had fried potatoes, 2 eggs, toast and the aforementioned ham. My omelet sandwich came with fries. The food was simple, but tasted just fine. If I had one complaint it would be the cheap bread they serve, but for the price it was not unexpected.
Service was lacklustre, but not rude. We ordered, we got our food, and later a bill came. Again, about what we expected. The real star was the value. I mean this place is extremely inexpensive. That factor alone will make up for a lot of shortcomings. We will be back soon to fill our bellies.
It seems like most people order the $2.95 breakfast with two eggs with sausages or ham or bacon. I happened to order something else today - beef brisket soup noodles. They didn't take care to trim the fat on the beef, so the presentation wasn't too attractive, but the taste was pretty good, though. And the price was great.
The food here isn't top notch, but what would you expect? It's family run. The owner is pretty nice. However the crowd that comes here is usually rough. The cheap breakfast option keeps me coming back for more. If you are looking for a cheap all-day breakfast, this place is worth a shot.
Tried Jane's based on the positive reviews and was pleasantly surprised. Basically a hole in the wall kind of place in Burnaby. For $3.50 you get eggs, toast, home cut potato chunks and your choice of sausage, bacon or back bacon. It was a great deal considering the meal was pretty decent.
Now don't get me wrong, if you are expecting the quality of food you'd find at the Pan Pacific this is not the place. However, if you want something comparable to a $10 meal you'd get at Whitespot, Rickey's or IHOP this comes pretty darn close.
Coffee is pretty good and the crowd is eclectic and we saw runners, firefighters, and families all enjoying a morning meal.
Our bill for two breakfasts with coffee came to about $13 bucks including tip!!
The low cost wouldn't mean much if the food hadn't been decent and it was so this is a good place for VALUE which is different than just eating at a place because it's cheap.
I went there with my family and we had the breafast special. It's a great value for $3.50. Toast, two eggs, potato chunks, and your choice of bacon, sasuage or ham. We ordered coffee/juice as our drinks. Refills included for coffee. The service is average. They serve the food promply, greet you when you enter and say thank you when you pay your bill. Tried their other specials before. The cheeseburger with bacon and mushroom was a good deal for $5.75 with soup and fries. I had that one for lunch one time. They have regular specials posted on the walls throughout the restaurant. Haven't tried their chinese food specials yet, but the portions looked quite decent on other people's tables.
Great little family owned restaurant in N.Burnaby. I was amazed at how many people kept walking in the door after I sat down. Mostly regulars I would assume. Ordered the $2.95 breakfast special along with the two high pancakes and a hot chocolate. Hot chocolate was excellent, creamy and smooth and not watery. Food - solid! I always wonder how a place can screw up making breakfast. Unfortunately, there are such places in the lower mainland. Jane's is NOT one of them. I agree with the previous review, food is non-greasy. Don't waste your $ at McD's, come here instead.
I live in the neighbourhood so decided to come check it out. I didn't feel like breakfast at 2pm, so tried their chinese 3-item combo. The quality is pretty good, all freshly made (crunchy lemon chicken and fried prawn). It's definitely better quality than the food-court standards. But it's also more expensive ($8).
Service is OK (basically the waitress just took my order and gave me what I asked), can't expect much.
Breakfast is now listed as $3.5.
I can't really recommend it, unless all you care is not spending more than $5 for your meal or if you have a craving for greasy spoon stuff.
We live around Jane's, and didn't get a chance to try it out until last Sunday. We found that the service was slow, and they seemed very disorganized. The waitress was rude and not helpful, and we almost just got up and leave, but we stayed coz we were really hungry and did not want to find another place to go to. And it turned out that she got my order wrong - which resulted in a very long wait for my food to finally arrive, and they even over-charged us. I would not recommend this place to anyone despite the low prices.
The breakfast specials for $2.95 are a good deal with home fries, either 3 sausage links or bacon, 2 eggs, and toast. Can't beat that. Also, the waitress always comes by with coffee refills. The place is busy and the food is fresh.
If you want a good, solid breakfast at an extremely reasonalble price this is the place to go! My husband and I go here quite often for the $2.95 breakfast with 2 eggs, hashbrown, toast and your choice of ham, sausage or bacon. They also serve Chinese and Canadian food all at a reasonable price. Give this place a try.. a bit out-dated in ambiance but who cares when you can get a good meal at a reasonable price.
My husband and I enjoy going to Jane's for breakfast. The decor is somewhat dated, the lighting is often quite dark and sometimes quite cold. But, who's complaining about the decor when you can get a nice, wholesome breakfast for $4.50 which comes with two eggs, toast, fried hash browns and your choice of sausage, bacon or ham. Between my husband and I, for $14.00 we have a nice and relaxing breakfast to carry us to a late meal. They also have a great selection on their lunch and dinner menus for a very reasonable price. We have had lunch and dinner at Jane's many time. You can choose from a wide variety of food including Chinese. If you're not fussy about decor give this place a try; you won't regret it.
We live in the area and eat at Jane's when we're in the mood for Chinese. It's great - for the price! The family is very nice (not chatty), but nice and they work hard. I would recommend it, if you like inexpensive Chinese. We've also ordered for pick up and had good experience. I've only order the chinese food so i can't comment on the burgers.
So if your a Cheapskate... you'll like this place. If you judge the breakfast by the amount of coin left over in your jeans then this place would get a 5* rating.
I wouldn't bring your date here. But to be fair the breakfast for 3 bucks is good enough. But come on.... for an another 50 cents you can have a real breakfast at choppers diner on 1st and rupert. 10x the value.
I did Jane's once when choppers was closed and I found it quite decent, however nothing like Choppers.
I live in north burnaby and love going to janes i have been a regular there for the last 15 years and find the prices extremelly good food is awesome.. most chinese food you can taste the msg in them and at janes it just tastes like food. and the breakfast is an awesome price for the amount of food you get.
Love this place. If you're up late on a weekend morning, nothing beats stumbling into Jane's for the best $3 breakfast I've come across yet. They give you a nice big heap of homefries which are shockingly non-greasy and very, very tasty. Their coffee is great and they keep it filled up throughout the meal as well.
A huge plate of decent chinese will run you $7 here, though I'd give the sweet & sour pork a miss and get chicken-something instead. $5.50 will get you a decent cheeseburger with bacon, fries and soup. Seriously, eating here and grocery shopping are neck-in-neck cost-wise, I swear!
I've been to Jane's dozens of time, and never been dissapointed. The food's always good, the portions are gigantic for chinese food, and they all come with 3 choices and who doesn't like $2.95 breakfast specials.
This last time June 18th, 06, they were a little dissapointing with their fries, they were woody and dry. The place was packed, so maybe it was my bad luck.
Otherwise, great place!
