I work near this restaurant. There's only a couple that are within walking distance from my office and this is the only one I go to any more. I am a regular there and I can see a few others whenever I go.
They have soups, salads, sandwiches. But what I usually order is the specials. They usually have 2 or 3 specials a day and I can usually find something I like. If I don't then I usually order one of their paninis.
The one thing I don't like is that the water is not cold enough. They have a cistern for water at their coffee station. It used to have ice in it but since their ice machine broke they haven't been doing that. They have glasses in the fridge which you can use which helps a little but but not a lot.
Their lunch rush seems to happen right around 12. I like to get there between 11 to 11:30 to avoid this. You could probably come after 1 pm as well to avoid the crowds.
I don't like to sit outside but if you do they have tables outside where you can enjoy the sunshine in the summer.
For almost 2 years I have worked on the commercial real estate development (Developer: Stuart Olson) on Canada Way / Gilmore Way.
Together with my colleagues we had during this time every single day breakfast and lunch @ JAM’S BISTRO. Some of us tried occasionally other places, however, they came back after 1 or 2 days since they were not satisfied.
Well, I eat everything the menu has to offer. All the daily specials Jay is preparing everyday and sometimes they made me even things which can not be found on the official menu. I like all their different foods and can say the same for my colleagues as well. I rate this place with 4 **** for food since everything is very fresh and the specials are really home made and they are never more than $7 incl. GST.
Highlights: freshly cooked daily specials, grandma’s chicken soup, potato salad, Panini, Eggwich with bacon, Asian BBQ pork, smoked salmon omelet and many more dishes.
Too bad for the guys are loosing now some steady customers, since we are moving on now to a new project..
We were extremely happy with food and service and enjoyed the patio in summer time.
Keep up the good work.
I recently started a new job in Burnaby and discovered JAM'S BISTRO. This restaurant is surrounded by office buildings in the Canada Way / Gilmore Way area. This place is certainly not your regular coffee shop (SEATTLE'S BEST COFFEE) or soup & sandwich place.
They have incredible lunch specials which are changing daily. The food is freshly cooked. My colleagues and I had steaks, salmon, crepes and many other delicious dishes there. The servings are very generous. If you believe it or not they don't have anything fro more than $8 on the menu; and this was the price I paid for a steak with home made potato salad and a soup.
You can find all sorts of sandwiches, Paninis, burgers, fish & chips, Reuben's etc. on the menu.
I hope the weather will be nice soon so we can sit on their huge patio enjoying our lunch break even more.
