Wow! Where else can you get a cooked crab for $13.95 done your way? Crab was on the special board Mar 30/08. Don't know how often this special is on but I did notice there were not too many crabs left in the tank. Had the crab with white cream sauce and it was delish. Also had 2 other items. All items arrived within a reasonable time period. Everything was hot and tasty. Service was excellent. One suggestion is the wait staff all get together and try to dress more appropriately. Make believe you are in the service industry and you want people to come back as repeat customers.

Worth the walk from the Mall

I used to go here very often when I worked in the Metrotown area. They have excellent lunch specials!!

It had been over a decade since I had dined here and I brought my two year old daughter here so we could have lunch after shopping at Metrotown.

Firstly, let me advise - this is not "fine dining." The decor is very basic and has not been updated in years. It was clean and functional only. This is okay by me. I would rather have good food and good value than spruced up decor.

I ordered two lunch specials - the black bean chicken and green beans and I had satay chicken. Both were tasty with very ample portions. Lots of chicken. We ate our fill and I had plenty left to bring home to share with my husband and son.

Tea is provided free of charge and the pop is reasonably priced.

I think this family owned place is well worth the walk from Metropolis to enjoy some good Chinese Food at very reasonable prices.

Good family restaurant

The outside of the restaurant doesn't look too impressive, but the parking lot was full, so we took it as a good sign. Sure enough, food was good, and service was fast and friendly. We ordered some fried rice and fried noodles for lunch. Nothing fancy, but if you are looking for quality Chinese food at a reasonable price, this is a good place to go in the Metrotown area.

I've been eating here for years with my family, dine in or take out or delivery. The ownership changed a couple years back, but I'm pretty sure the food improved. I usually get the Mabo Dofu (Spicy tofu with ground pork and some veg), the deep fried wontons with sweet and sour sauce, Buddha's Feast vegetables, and a chow mein dish. Sometimes I'll get hot and sour soup or chicken corn soup. Yummy!

If you want to eat solid Chinese food, this is the place.

So went to this restaurant for lunch today with a bunch of co-workers. We were seated and served tea very quickly. One of the group put in our order and we were served the dishes very promptly. We did have to send one dish back as they had forgotten to add the chicken to the dish, but this was sorted out quickly and efficiently. Other than this, the food was absolutely excellent. We had the Szechuan Shredded Beef with Ginger, which was quite spicy, but had lots of flavour. The other dish that stands out was the Deep-Fried Squid with Pepper-Salt. We enjoyed this dish so much we even ordered another plate of it. We also liked the Egg Rolls (which did have meat in them). After spending a great lunch there, it was back to work. Will definitely be back for more of their food.

This restaurant became one of our favourites soon after it first opened at its location on Kingsway/Nelson. It has been a family owned/run restaurant of a high standard since it first opened about 20 years ago. About 2-years ago ownership changed, but there has been no change to the menu, quality of service or excellence of food served. The decor is unpretentious with recent minor changes to the decor/furnishings. The food and service remain of the highest quality. We consider this as our "special place" to dine out, whenever we are dining out for a quick and tasty meal, for convenience, or we have friends or family members with us. On more than one occasion we have phoned in a reservation for 10 or more people, and although just a 5-minute drive away, by the time our entourage arrive the table setting is already in place. The quality of the food is truly remarkable and it has remained consistently good since the restaurant first opened ... and I've no doubt that during the intervening years there have been several different chef's.

We have eaten Chinese food [including the Szechuan standards] in many parts of the world, and the selection and quality of the items on this menu is without comparison. A similar comparison can be made to similar restaurants through B.C. and North America, and without exception there are none that compare to the consistent good quality of the over 200 items on the Hing Loong menu. Over the years we've tried most of the items on their menu and have yet to find fault with any.

Plaudits to the the chef and the owners ... we will, undoubtedly continue to enjoy our attendance at this restaurant when treating our family members to a meal out. Our grandchildren know their favourite menu items by their name and number, and they are most happy when we elect to have our family gathering meal at the Hing Loong ... also their favourite. We trust that they will continue operating at the same location for many more years.

What can I say about this place. I eat chinese food everywhere I go, I have had food all over the world. It's quite an amazing find that you would miss if you based your choice to go there on the look of the building. They give you wonderful food, especially during weekdays for some reason. They have the best sweet and sour pork I have ever tasted, and my wife is from China, and actually really likes this place, which is rare since she usually doesn't like most Candian - Chinese food restaurants. The chicken chow mein is quite different from most Chinese - Canadian restaurants, but actually tastes quite good. If you want to eat a lot of really excellent tasting food for a good price, this is a good bet. It's one of the few that, even when I am full, I can't resist having a little more.

We Went here based on other reviews on this site. We found that the food here is quite greasy for Chinese food. Portions are generous, however everything was deep fried. There are well over 200 different items on the menu, and we only had 4.
Like the other reviewers, agree that the place needs some serious work to look better. Will not be back.

Though from the outside this place looks like it should be condemned, they really make up for it with quality and service. The food is always fresh, prepared quickly, and the servers are very friendly. For reliably good, cheap chinese food, I've yet to find any place better!

Re-discovered the Hing Loong Chinese restaurant recently.

It has been in this location at Kingsway and Nelson for a long time and it is family run.

We used to eat in all the time several years ago, prices were cheap, staff was friendly, and meals were of good quality. We ate there so much we got tired of it and started going to other places including Mr Ho's when it returned to Kingsway in Burnaby.

After unsatisfying meals from Mr Ho's in the last year (i.e. vegetables that smelled/tasted kind of rotten in our dishes) we re-discovered Hing Loong.

Hing Loong, pricewise, is comparatively cheap, and there are large portions.

The food is fresh, the vegetables are abundant and crispy, there is lots of meat in the meat dishes. Give them a try.

We've been getting take-out, and just over $13 gets us two huge meals which we share and is way more than enough for two hungry adults.

Good Chinese Eats in BBY

Ok, I'll be the first to admit it, the place needs an overhaul in the ambiance/looks dept. But, the food is GOOD! And good value for the money. This is our usual Chinese restaurant, either for take out or dine in. Pretty regular enough for the staff to know us and comment if we haven't been in for a while etc and if we ask for the usual, they know what we want. Have eaten there as just the two of us, or the whole fam damily, 11 with little ones, and always served quickly and efficiently. We didn't know if the change in management would change our minds, but the food stayed consistently good, and possibly may have improved. Had one occasion when the restaurant was pretty well packed and we had to wait a bit, but they even got the delivery guy to go around and take orders and help. The dinner for 2 is quite good, if you like it pretty basic... but lots of variety if you like it a bit more exotic. A good solid experience...
