This is a modern, west coast pub with a cozy fireplace to sit and enjoy dinner and drinks with friends. The pub has been fully re-modeled and changed its name from Delaney's Pub. New menu and seafood items are Ocean Wise. Pub has a liquor store attached.
My wife and friends enjoyed dinner and a few drinks at the Great Bear. The food was good and the atmosphere was above average. It was a Monday night and they have Monday Night football on and they did a good job of engaging the attendees by playing games and offering up prizes.
Came here to eat and watch the canucks game. The place got packed a little after the 1st period.
Our server can't remember who order what (we had around 8 people).
We asked for two baileys coffee and she said they were out of baileys (even though the liq store was next door).
We asked her what else she got that we can mix with coffee and she never came back. I use to work at a restaurant and I understand that it can get busy and hectic so I don't blame her for forgetting.
I finally had to go up to her and ask for my drink. Afterwards she gave me a red plastic straw and ended up melting in my hot coffee. She was suppose to use a black straw.
The food was good and the drinks were cheap so it was good. They should get a server that can handle their busy nights.
The Great Bear Pub in Burnaby is the perfect place to go if you are looking for a fun night out with friends. Not only is the service great, but the staff is friendly, and everyone there goes the extra mile to make sure you are enjoying yourself. They have live entertainment nearly every night and as well are host to the various UFC events, hockey, soccer and football games. The menu is large enough to please anyone looking for a delicious bite to eat. They also have a large selection of cocktails and beers on tap if you are looking to whet your whistle! The prices for menu items are very reasonable, and the pub offers food features and drink specials that change daily. I am happy to recommend the Great Bear Pub as the best place to go in Burnaby if you want to have a great time for a great price.
Nice Irish pub with fun entertainment and a lot of locally grown produce which is always good. I was there on Sunday and had the Brunch buffet and let me tell you it was great value for money and very well laid on. My boyfriend had the yam fries and loved them. I will certainly come back again as the food and the ambiance was perfect and we all had a great time.
It was a Saturday night 11pm. Seven of us came for a birthday dinner.
The server came up three times to take our order because she couldn't remember and double billed us ten dollars, we let her keep the money because we didn't get the bill. (bad service happens from time to time, so I will give her another chance.)
I think their should have been more people, because feeling almost alone in front of a live band is just not comfortable.
After the sun goes down, the lighting should dim down a little. The single big light in the middle of the restaurant where we were seated, it just didn't go, because the rest of the restaurant was dark.
I would go during the day, maybe that is why the place isn't packed on a Saturday night.
I don't go out for drinks often, because its cheaper to drink at home, and besides some downtown pubs, the fare is usually pretty basic.
But one night my bf and I decided to head down and try the GBP. It always seems to be busy in the evenings, and we thought how nice would it be to have a pub within walking distance of home?
The inside is nice and simple, the carpets and booths look a little worn, but not shabby. Otherwise, I enjoy the mostly wood decor, the simple shelves behind the bar and the nice and bright room. The patio seems nice though I haven't sat outside yet.
The food has been delicious with incredible prices! I have been several times now, and have had the fish and chips, wings, quesadilla and my bf has also had the burger that was on special.
All of the food has been delicious! The fish and chips is fresh and not over battered, the tartar sauce is homemade (I think, but its tasty anyways!) and the fries are steak fries, which aren't my fave but are still good.
They have something going on at 9 every night, including Guitar Hero on Tuesday nights, and live music! The one time I have stuck around for the live music, it was nice and with a dance floor!
They have a pay pool table, and TVs with different games or fights on. The washrooms have been clean every time I go, and recently I sat with a view into the kitchen which was very clean and professional.
The beer: What a deal! The only place I know with Bowen Island brewery on tap, which I am a fan of. They also have a few other good beers on tap, and a good selection of bottled too. Its nice to not worry how much a basic pint of beer is going to cost!
I gave the food a 4 simply because I have never had a complaint, its always been super tasty and its not just "Pub" fare, its food I would specifically go to get.
The service I put as solid only because I think they may want to hire another server for the weekends, as ours seemed a little run off (but she later mentioned in conversation she had been there since 10:30 that morning, an almost 12 hour shift! Yet she was smiling and attentive and prompt).
I even dropped a reservation for 15 people at 2pm on a Saturday afternoon, which they accepted with no complaints!
Definetly a place worth going!
This pub has always provided good value but they are trying to offer better quality food. I enjoy the salmon burger and hand rolled spring rolls. The paninis are awesome for lunch.
A bite and glass of wine before live music on Saturday nights was fun.
