Will never order from here again
By richmondclient of Richmond , BC (1 Review)

After giving this place way too many tries (we live close by), we have finally said we will never order from here again. 1) They do advertise free delivery within 5km, but when you call for delivery, they say it's unavailable. 2) After driving there and back several times, we have arrived home to find they missed entire items or sauces. If you call to ask them to bring it, they refuse. This has happened at least three times to us. They never apologize for missing it. We have asked they provide replacements for the hot food, (as by the time it has been back and forth twice, it's no longer hot and fresh. They refuse. 3)You cannot order any sauces, you have to order a whole entire dish to go with your sauce. They will not ask you to pay an additional $.50 or a dollar, they charge you for an extra dish to go with your sauce. Terrible customer service. We will never ever go again.

Three strikes your out

Always loved this place, but it is not so good anymore. Gave my favourite place three last tries and a fail. The food on each occasion was either cold when it should have been hot or vices versa. Their tempura was cold and greasy and I had to send back tempura prawns that were uncooked twice, not expecting free but when they returned with my prawns 10 minutes later they were the same ones as I had broken one in half they just threw them back into the oil and now they were very greasy the second run through and cold again, hmm. I also found their tuna stringy and rolls dry.

Overpriced.

I went there on a Friday for lunch around 11:30 and ordered take out since I was takin my dog for a walk. My first impression of ye menu was that it was over the top expensive. I enjoy food in general and don't mind spending money on good food but the pictures showing the tiny portions don't look too appetizing with with the price. Nonetheless I ordered two rolls of sushi, some ouster motoyaki, and some gyoza. The total came to $25 so I was expecting some decent food. Instead, the gyoza was made with spring-roll dough and was deep fried instead of pan fried and the motoyaki had literally half the tart full of oil and tasted disgusting. I used to work at a sushi restaurant and I can tell that their chef has been slacking off and using the motoyaki from last night. The rolls were tasted ok, nothin special and definitely not worth $4.95.

The service seemed ok since I ordered take out and stayed outside for my order; although I don't mind waiting 30 minutes for them to complete my order despite that the shop only ha another couple eating at the time, I was upset that they messed up my order and gave me salmon rolls instead of scallop I can't say anything for the interior.

Overall I will not be returning to this overpriced and below average sushi restaurant.

Not bad and not Good

The place is a clean and friendly restaurant but its an "All you can eat style Japanese Restaurant", you can't expect mind blowing food. The service is efficient and prompt and the food arrives very fast and quick. The quality is not the best but it is safe. I will come back when I feel like eating like a pig and on a budget.

it is expensive to eat here and the food isn't all that great. service is poor. no one greets you when you walk in. no one says good bye or thank you when you leave. no one smiles. no one checks up on you to see if you like your food or need anything. no one refills water or tea. portions are small and food display is sloppy.

if you order their special. the portions are even SMALLER than their average serving size and they give you the poorer quality item compared to if you order the same item on their regular menu, but then you are paying regular price rather than the 'sale' price.

on top of it all after that ... if you don't leave a good size tip for their poortable service ... they smirk at you.

Been here many many times. The place is clean and well decorated, the servers friendly. Go for their eye-opener deal. The food is of a standard higher than AYCE. Only thing is it gets really noisy especially in the central part of the restauarant, must be the acoustics.

Only good for discounted price
By azn_msfyt of Delta (194 Reviews)

Food: It's alright for the price but mostly a hit or miss in terms of quality and quantity. Sometimes california rolls are good, sometimes mushy and sometimes just downright ridiculously hard to enjoy. Noodles can be tasty but again, its a hit or miss. I honestly would not come here to eat if I had to pay regular price.

Service: Spotty but better than the Metrotown location - at least they acknowledge your existence. Servers are much friendlier and are more inclined to refill your cups with tea or water.

Ambiance: Much better than the Metrotown location but can still be dingy at times. Again, would not come here unless the food was discounted (lunch hour and after 9 pm).

Very Poor Service

Submitted Thursday, September 23, 2010 - 12:15pm [Dine in]

Went on a Wed night (9/22) and the place was unexpectedly busy. Later realized they only had 2 servers on the floor. It took them 15 min to seat us even though a quick walk through of the restaurant had several tables open. Took another 20 min for them to take our order as no servers could be flagged. Our food arrived late and conversations from tables surrounding us were also complaining about the food being at least 30 mintues late.

I paid the bill at the front counter and did not leave a tip. The manager had the nerve of asking for a service charge despite being severely short staffed and providing terrible service. The server came to our table after the bill was settled and also asked for a tip explaining how efficient their service was despite being short staffed.

As we walked out the door, there was no thank you or even an apology.

This place can't seem to understand that a tip not automatic and must be earned by providing good service.

No Barfing, But No Raving Either

I will never go to Daimasu again, knowing that there are other poor quality sushi joints out there serving the same crap for all-you-can-eat. We ordered the $48.00 nigiri and roll sushi platter with about 50 pieces and was only given enough wasabe for about 3 people. One of the prawn nigiri sushi pieces had to be sent back because it was covered in white, oozy, pussy liquid, unlike the other two pieces that looked more fresh. My brother could feel every drop of moisture from the thawed tuna sashimi, and Mr. Daisycloud at a piece of tough and stringy salmon sashimi. Imagine that for a restaurant that claims it serves fine Japanese cuisine!

The beef sashimi looked gross but tasted great with the ponzu sauce. The ebi sunomono was hard, like it had been sitting in the fridge for days. The specialty rolls really are special, but don't bother with the regular sushi and sashimi.

One of the worst Sashimi

Submitted Saturday, June 19, 2010 - 2:51pm [Dine in]

My wife and I went to this restaurant for regular sashimi bento box. The server was great and served us promptly. After the dinner set arrived, we're totally surprised to see the food quality. There were only Salmon and white fish . We could not believe what we're seeing, the white fish was totally old and it was yellow color for all pieces. We're thinking the fish color might have changed due to local fish stock, so we still ate it and found that the taste was so bad. It was over due for some time and it should not be served to customer. We're very displeased by such food quality. We left many pieces unfinished and we paid for the bill. A man gurading the cashier was collecting our bill, but I did not leave even a penny for tips. He saw no tips and whining at us for no tips. He said in Chinese- 'not even 5 cents!' I did not answer and we left with great disappointment.
This gentleman - I assume is the manager- should first check its food quaity on a regular basis, he should toss out the expired fish stock. It is very sad nowadays japanese restaurant is run by non-japanese owner and they did not show any due regard to food quality. Plus, let me remind him one thing, Japanese is not expected to be given tips in restaurant. Please check out food quality first before asking for tips!

Whatever happened to the Kamei sushis ? Seems like all the places in richmond nowadays is All You Can Eat ? This place used to be one of the best but is definately no longer. Food is decent and remeber you get what you pay for. Service needs huge improvement. Not fond of the interior design as it seems a little too open. The location would be better suited for a Korean BBQ place.

I really like this Place. I go here every Sunday for many years now. The food is good and takes about 7-8 min to arrive which is decent. The staff are friendly but noticed a little drop though in good staff. But still pricing is reasonable, not expensive and they have great beef teriyaki! I would reccommend you to come. Small or large group, its great.

This little place is tucked away out of the downtown core. It is easy to forget about until you taste the quality.

The food is always solid and good. The quality is the same every time we go.

Although not all you can eat, their prices are great. After 9pm they have a discounted menu of all the things I love.

I can't wait to go back. MMM

Another excellent experience with Daimasu in Richmond. This restaurant never fails to please. The food is fresh, tasty and served up with traditional Japanese graciousness. The Eye Opener at $9.95 is a great value for lunch with a number of choices through a 4 part menu selection.
I highly recommend the combination of sunomono salad, miso soup, prawn & veggie tempura with the mango/crab roll . The flavor combos are outstanding.
The ambiance for lunch is lovely, the decor very restful and endless Japanese tea is served with a smile ... no rushed service here...linger as long as you like.
In my opinion the best Japanese restaurant in the Richmond area.

Valentine's Day Dinner Disappointment
By bjqs of Kitsilano, Vancouver (1 Review)
Submitted Saturday, February 14, 2009 - 10:54pm [Dine in]

For Valentine's Day, I expected better service. My husband and son both got their meals well before mine! I had to wait 30 minutes for my Kyoto combo (sushi, salad and tempura). My son also had to wait the same time for his bowl of steamed rice. Only his miso soup arrived the same time as my husband's seafood udon soup. I was not offered any apology for the delay in my food nor offered a complimentary drink for my long wait! I will definitely not return. I did not leave a tip (this was the first time I've never left a tip after poor service in a restaurant). Usually, I'll leave a minimal tip (5-10%) even for poor service).

We used to go there quite often, but one time the tomato on the very top of my salad had mold growing on it... I wonder how the waiter missed it. How long they left that salad there, god knows. After that bitter experience, I have been hesitant to go back. The food over all is alright, and being so busy, one thinks that the food should always be fresh!?

We went when it was pretty slow, so it was bad service for how not busy the servers were!
The food is good because i generally love all japanese food!
The lighting was super dark, i kind of like it though!
I dont know a lot of people don't usually like this restaurant because the food is quite expensive!

I'll never go to this place again. One of the guy's at the front desk is so unfriendly. Even when you talk to him on the phone he's pretty bad. One time he complained to us because we paid cash and he didn't have change. Not worth the time.
Food is decent but there are many other good Japanese places in Richmond.

I used to frequent this place as it was close to work for lunch. No more. They forgot my food and everyone else had finished there's and still mine did not arrive. Try and flag down a waiter too is difficult. I complained to the manager and he just ignored me. The food is not cheep either and an average atmosphere with unskilled waiters. Take my word and find another place.

I rearly drive to Richmond. You would think with a couple of restaurants in the lower mainland the food will taste better. What a dissappointment. The price for the food is very reasonalbe but it sure did not taste that way. Was very hungry so ordered lots of food but lost my appitite after the first dish. To much fillers or preserves added to the food.
