Creme de la Crumb is a boutique bakeshop located in Willingdon Park. We bake everything fresh throughout the day and also serve house-made sandwiches, organic teas and gourmet coffee and espresso.
I work in the area and have stopped in before. I have never actually bought anything. The baked goods look good, but I don't really eat that stuff. I'm usually looking for a good sandwich or salad when I haven't packed my lunch. Most people in my office don't go there because they say it's too expensive.
Today I went and ended up choosing a curried chick pea wrap as most of the other things looked too "carby" and I had an afternoon meeting. The wrap was just under $8 with tax. However, it was in a nice spinach wrap and looked quite large in size. After I paid, it felt quite light and when I got to my desk I was stunned. It was mostly just lettuce, a few green peppers, and about 1/4 cup of chick peas in a curry coloured sauce. There was no rice, nothing else!! For EIGHT dollarss. OMG - they hadn't even added any spice, or even SALT. The curry was barely dicscernable. They had also wrapped it really loosely to make it appear bigger. For that price I would expect something like rice, or quinoa toasted almonds, maybe some raisins- anything to make it taste like something good instead of leaving a bad taste in my mouth - both literally and figuratively. NEVER again.
