Cafe at Mandeville is a small Cafe inside Gardenworks. They serve breakfast and lunch and offer a daily soup and sandwich special as well as coffee and baked goods.
Note the review is actually in the description of the restaurant. It was the first one, so I didn`t set it up correctly, but basically it is a nice cafe in the garden centre. You can combine your plant hunt with coffee, breakfast or lunch or leave your partner there with coffee and pie while you browse the plants.
While doing some shopping at GardenWorks Mandeville, you can't help but to walk up to the cafe area - the smells from the kitchen really draws you in. They offer a different lunch special each day and they are quite the deal! I went for their Devilled Egg sandwich combo the other day and it lasted me two meals. For only $7.15, I got 5"square sandwich on ciabatta and a bowl of rich Beef Chili. There was no way I could finish it in one sitting.
But this meal was fulfilling enough to satisfy any appetite. They also offered their hot special of the day (mac n' cheese) with a salad for only $8.
The service could be improved. I wasn't offered any smiles from any of the lunch ladies and the ordering process felt rushed. You basically pay and immediately step out of the way for the rest of the line. The food also felt a little rushed. The kitchen isn't your average fully functional type. They have industrial appliances, but I think most the food is pre-assembled. I got my sandwich combo about 2 minutes after ordering. I noticed the hot entree were in aluminum trays sitting out on a banquet table in the kitchen ready for scoop and go. Regardless, the food still tasted fresh.
The ambiance needs a little face-lift, but I can imagine how beautiful the outdoor patio would be for brunch. Unfortunately, I got my order to go, but I would probably be back for some patio brunch action some time.
One last thing to mention. I did notice some ants on the coffee carafe counter that should be addressed.
