Just OK..

I met up with a colleague for a lunch and meeting to sign some transfer papers - this was the place chosen for convenience. Space and vibe are on the mark as per usual Cactus Club standards so nothing new here.

We ordered a shortrib sandwich and a prawn and scallop spaghettini with a couple of drinks. My colleague lucked out and his meal faired well while my Collins was awfully made while my pasta, of which I have had before at other locations was executed with marginal effort. An ultra bland sauce rather familiar to the canned Hunts variety ruined what would've been a satisfactory lunch. Seafood portion was cooked well as was the pasta but they could've let the pasta rest a few minutes before serving. A notch down to the usual predictable quality.

Service too was unusual. While the hostesses happily acknowledged us our server disappeared for long stretches and did not check up on our meal as well as neighbouring patrons. Not too busy in her section either. Another notch off the norm.

Hoping that experience was an exception and not the rule.

Upscale Dining in Burnaby

Yes it is located in a shopping mall, but this is a very upscale restaurant. Sit outside on the patio. They have heaters so you are comfortable, never cold.

The food is excellent. It is expensive, but you feel the quality of the food is worth it. The staff is pleasant and they don't rush you.

We have been several times and the food is always good. Try the steaks or the planked salmon, The Ahi Tuna appetizer is beautiful.

The skirts sure are short

I really do not understand why the servers skirts need to be so short..

Beyond that, have been here a few times with people from work. I find it so over prices, with food that is not as good as Earls.

Last time I had the wings, they were pretty good, but wow they are expensive.

Will make other suggestions to my coworkers next time.

Had lunch at the bar. Dined on the Duck Clubhouse, supposedly one of Rob Feenies signature dishes. The bread though tasty was soggy and the duck was a large piece of very tough leg meat. I did not expect thin sliced breast meat but the leg could have been braised or cooked confit style to make it more tender. The chicken in the sandwich was also a large chunk. So when you took a bite it came out as one piece add to that the softness of the bread and you have a mess. I had a Bellini, always good. The service was the usual for this style of dining. Young, pretty and friendly..no complaints. The room is nice, a bit hard edged when it is not busy. The problem was the value. A cocktail and a mediocre sandwich at the bar cost me with gratuity..$35.00.
Definitely not worth the time or the money.

We started off with the just-baked selection of buns,...wow,the smell of fresh baked goods and they taste like Mom used to bake with real butter but served by a pretty flaunting lady, yum. Our entree's were the roasted half chicken with local fresh greens and mashed potatoes. The dark meat was just amazing, tender, juicy and just the perfect seasoning, the white breast was a little dry and bland as white meat tends to be. The seasonal veg was superb and earthy tasting as good freshly harvested produce should taste. The mashed potatoes were delicious and savoury and hearty. The coffee was robust and fresh. Had cocktails as dessert..Great chain that refuses to lose its edge

One of our local watering holes.....although it can be expensive!

We tend to go here a few times a month as it's in our neighborhood...kinda. I don't know why cities continue to grant construction in places that people HAVE to drive to. That's not very environmentally friendly!

Now, onto the task at hand. My absolute favorite thing on their menu is the Tuna Tataki. I have that pretty much every time I go. The flavors mix well and the dish is very light and tasty. We also tend to order the Szechuan Beans and the Mini Burgers (if hubby's there). Admittedly, the Mini Burgers aren't as good as they used to be, but they're still pretty solid. The Mini Burgers come in a group of three and they will give you 4 if you ask for them (& for an additional price) so that two people aren't left squabbling over the last mini burger.

Their wine list is pretty decent too. You can get a glass of wine starting at $7 going up to $15 or so I think and you can also order bottles, if that's your choice. Remember that you can now re-cork bottles and take them home with you in BC now!

The patio is quite a lovely setting, although like anywhere that's stationed on a busy street, it can be a bit noisy. The good news is that they have a fountain that drowns out a lot of the noise.

Hubby really likes this place for its "ambiance". That said, there is sometimes some eye candy for the ladies to look at too. The wait staff (regardless of what they look like) has always been friendly and efficient.

I will continue to go here for the Tataki and their extensive wine list. I just wish the prices weren't so high!

Good place to go for some drinks, food, eye candy, relaxation. The waitress was gorgeous beyond this earth. Swedish maybe?
Fast service, friendly and very clean toilets. I wanted to get some numbers from the ladies but was with a group. Will be back. Good chain as always. They really know how to make a burger here and for $20 all inclusive it is a deal.
