anyone looking for a great burger for lunch or bbq for dinner this is the place. The ribs, chicken wings, sausage and pretty much everything are fantastic. My favorite are the fries with chipolte mayo and I do go 3-4 times a week to get some as I live three blocks away. I've gotten to know the owner and staff and they are all wonderful and make you feel at home. I would highly recommend this place either to dine in or take out. you will not be disappointed. The value is great as well. They do not skimp on portion sizes. Enjoy!

I've been looking for a great BBQ place with messy ribs and delicious sides and I've found it!

3 of us went on a Saturday night and we quickly were seated and started drooling over the dishes coming out of the kitchen (right in the dining area). I had the ribs and pulled pork combo with beans and coleslaw - a decent amount for $16. The ribs were delicious, very little fat and plenty of meat! The pulled pork was heavenly, a big pile that was enough for leftovers. The coleslaw was so good, I ate mine and one of my tablemate's. A very satisfying BBQ meal - one that I look forward to again! We all agreed that this was a good find.

The dining room makes effort at 'Southern style' but it is small and a little drafty. The service was great, food came quickly and I'd love to try the brisket next time. I'm craving it already!

Stick To The Burgers, Not The Etc.

As one of my requirements for writing a review at DineHere.ca is to frequent the establishment at least twice, Buddy and I stopped in a few times in the last month to see what all the hype was about. Starting with the burgers, seeing as it's in the restaurants name, they come served with your choice of side, which include, corn niblets, coleslaw, potato salad or baked beans. Although my mushroom/mozza (two dollars extra) burger was tasty, scouring the menu I was shocked to see a $1.50 substitute charge for fries. Now I know the potato harvests yield was dwindling this year, but charging an extra $1.50 for fries is enough to send my Irish cousin fleeing back to his motherland. As forementioned in the reviews title, lets get to the real reason behind this somewhat negative review, the Etc. sampler platter for two. At the same price (39.95) as a similar platter at Memphis Blues, we were expecting to stuff our faces full this particular afternoon, but the portions paled in comparison to what you'd get elsewhere. Razor thin slices of roast beef passed off as brisket, a few jumbo wieners trying to imitate Italian sausages, only two ribs, and BBQ chicken that was as dry as the mojave. The pulled pork and spicy chicken wings were just ok. Only a few dabs of BBQ sauce here and there and no hot sauce or toothpicks(a must with pulled pork) at tableside. Our choice of three sides included a watery bowl of cold corn niblets, tasteless coleslaw(cabbage with a squirt of dressing) and some mushy "baked" brown beans I swear were out of a can. Libby's anyone? Stick to the burgers at Burgers Ect. unless you want to get ripped off and leave hungry, in which you'd order the Etc. sampler platter.

We'll Be Back!

A few weeks ago a friend and I tried out Burgers Etc. to see if we wanted to have our monthly lunch there with a larger group. We loved the food and the owner came and talked to us for quite a while about the history of the restaurant. We liked the place.
Today twelve of us went for lunch. We got there at 11:30 because there are no reservations and the place fills up very quickly with working people on their lunch hours. The service was excellent, our food came out all at the same time, and everyone really enjoyed their meals. We had a variety of items on the menu; chuck steak burgers, hamburgers, bbq chicken burgers, BLT, potato salad, coleslaw, beans and soup. I make many different soups at home and have never made, or had anywhere else, ANYTHING like the mushroom soup I ate today. It was beyond excellent!
Once things calmed down a bit, Calvin came over and sat with us for a few minutes and just chatted.
It's a very welcoming place where you can feel right at home. Excellent value! I will certainly go there again.
Thank-you!

Decent burger and fries for the price

I ate the burger and house fries for around $15 (before tax and tip) and thought it was pretty good, but just okay for $15. The house fries were great.. but the portion was pretty disappointing. I think I get more fries at like white spot or red robins.

The burger was fine, but i didn't think it was anything special. I was kind of disappointed as my friends recommended this restaurant.

Would not go back unless hungry and in the area.

The perfect BBQ sauce.

The burger buns & patties are a good size. The buns are nice, soft, fresh, however, maybe a little too thin at the bottom to make it work for a juicy, sauce-filled burger/sandwich. If you hold the burger upside down, it makes it easier to eat just because the buns are kept so soft that the bottom slice so thin that the sauces soak through the bottom more easily while it wobbles a little half way through the burger--especially if you were having any of the ones with their homemade bbq sauce. It may not be as "messy" to eat as some burgers, but it definitely isn't the "tidiest" kind either.

The beef brisket sandwich on burger bun is juicy, flavourful and well worth a try. Just the perfect amount of beef fat and sauce to make for a bite full of flavour. The charbroiled burger's, though 6oz in size, is surprisingly light, so you can probably down more than a few of those or a whole burger with room to spare--there seems to be quite a bit of filler grounded into the patty from what I can tell, but then, I'm no real expert, I just tell it as I taste it.

Although I prefer the contents, and sauce of the burgers here better, and the freshness of the softbun is nice, I do prefer the buns a few blocks down at X-Site Grill better (fresh and nicely toasted so it's lightly crisped on the outside while being soft throughout). Too bad it's just the bun I prefer from X-Site, everything else about the burgers there is not a real match.

Best burgers in Burnaby

Voted best burgers by CTV viewers, I had to give this place a try. I will definitely go back again and again. The burgers here are a nice size...good sized bun and not a puny patty. The burger was juicy and tasted fresh. I had it with cheddar cheese and fries while my sister had it with a fried egg and baked beans. The egg was done to a perfection - not runny and messy and not dry. Offered with many choices of sides. The baked beans were really good and didn't have that tangy "out-of-the-bottle-bbq-sauce" taste. The server was really friendly and made us feel really welcome. Can't wait to go back and try their other items like their pulled-pork sandwich! yum!

My review is a few months late but I was here in the later part of December (2010). A friend and I had heard about this place for a few years now but never got the chance to check it out. I must say, the years of waiting was well worth it.

I had the 'Charbroiled Burger' while a friend had the 'Chicken Burger'. We also got an order bbq chicken wings and spicy wings which were amazing might I add. The burgers were executed very well. The burger was big, properly cooked with the right amount of "juicyness". Will come back for sure!

LOVE the burgers here!

I love burgers…I try not to eat burgers too often, but when I do eat it, I want it to be excellent and worth the price. At this little restaurant, this is how a burger should taste. I haven’t eaten anything else on their menu other than their burgers, but it’s good enough to keep me coming back. The orders are always correct, everyone there is friendly and professional, and the food is delicious. Probably a heart attack on a plate, but sometimes that’s what you want. I think the cook picked up the phone one time and took my order, asked me how I wanted my burger and what time I would be there because he was worried that it would be overcooked by the time I went to pick it up. I know this place is no 5-star restaurant, but that they still pay attention to the details and make sure the food you get is the best quality they can make it, I definitely appreciate that and I can definitely taste it. So it’s certainly not health food, but it’s also not a greasy cheap burger either. It’s fresh and well-made.
Every time I’ve been there to pick up my takeout, the people are friendly, and make sure I have all the extras I need before I leave, even the cooks say hello to me. I love this place and I love their burgers.

Good BBQ ribs

We stopped by to grab a bite to eat. My hubby didn't feel like chinese, felt like having burger instead. We walked into the restaurant and was surprise how small the place was. It felt like walking into a jazz cafe. The decor was nice with jazz music playing in the background. Good thing the TV wasn't on. It would of ruin the ambiance.
I chose the pulled pork and ribs combo with coleslaw and corn niblets. My hub changed his mind about the burger and decided on the pulled pork sandwich with baked beans. The presentation of my plate was pleasing to the eyes.
Food was fantastic, I loved the pulled pork. Juicy meat with a drizzle of BBQ sauce on top. I loved my ribs, its very hard to find good ribs in Vancouver. I am used to good ribs from Montreal. My only disappointment was that there was only 2 ribs in my combo. Yet it was enough for me because I couldn't finished my pulled pork. This was the best BBQ food I've ever tasted. Much better than Memphis Blue.
Service was great. The staff thought I didn't like my pulled pork whereas my hubby had polished off his large pulled pork sandwich. I am looking forward to my pulled pork sandwich for tomorrow lunch.
We will definitely come back again. This time I will order the 2 lb ribs.

Was hoping to find some tasty burgers here. But again they were just bland and not that tasty. Fresh, probably, quality ingredients, probably, but no zing. Others eating with me liked them but again I could have made burgers at home by mashing ground beef straight out of a package into a patty, cooking it and slapping a bun around it. It would be the same thing. So if you like that kind of "home made" burger taste you will probably like these (I want something tasty and interesting like a white spot burger or red robin burger).

The burgers here actually tasted the same here as X-site down the street. However at X-site they are 1/3 the price, so you might consider that instead.

Haven't tried the non-burger items. They may be good for all I know but if you have burger in the name of your restaurant that's what I'm there to try.

What really killed this place for me though is they don't serve fountain pop (at least when I visited, which was a while ago). Serving this kind of food without fountain pop is criminal, so I deduct a whole point for that (pop from a can tastes like crap to me).

Maybe one day I'll go back and try the non-burger items, but I'll never order a burger from here again.

BBQ Flavour!

A few friends and I were trying to decide what to eat last weekend, and it occurred to me that I haven’t been to BE yet. After all, it is such a hassle to barbecue at home, and this place is reputed to have the best burgers, etc.

When we arrived it was super-crowded, but with a creative arrangement of tables, we were seated sooner than expected. The ambience was spartan and a little cramped, but the w/c’s were clean, and the server was friendly. I was expecting the staff and cook to be Cajun types, but they appeared to be Filipinos. I guess it doesn’t really matter, and the food was good overall. Not all French chefs come from France, right?

The menu had a good variety of charred meats, so there was something for everyone. I had the pulled pork plate, and my beloved had the PP and ribs. One of our group had the famous burger, one had the Italian sausage, and another had the pound of ribs. While we were waiting for the mains we tried the chicken wings. They were a bit pricey, but they were very tasty, and I liked that they were on a satay stick. That was different.

The burger was a little raw (rare?) in the middle because it was so thick, but was reported to be juicy and delicious. The Italian sausage was a disappointment, tasting more like a hotdog from a cart. The ribs were smoky and meaty, and the pulled pork was juicy and savoury. It wasn’t just about the sauce. The meat was well prepared. When BBQ is done right, there is nothing like it.

We had some sides like coleslaw, sautéed mushrooms, and potato salad, but the consensus at the table was that the best side was the French fries.

One complaint was the beverage selection. The beer was too expensive, and the soft drinks were tins, not fountain. They need to work on that.

I have tried most of the BBQ places in this town, and I think BE is near the top.

Recommended.

I’ve wanted to get to this Hamburger joint for a little while now. Finally made it with a couple of friends on Thursday. We were a little apprehensive with a restaurant empty (this was after lunch time) except for a couple by the window. The University couple was so much in love that those burgers could have been dusty crackers or Chateaubriand on the banks of the Seine.

We ordered with the really pleasant and sparkly waitress on her third day at work. We asked her many questions about the menu because it was our first time. She was enthusiastic with her answers and was very helpful in obtaining answers to the ones she couldn’t answer. She’s a real asset to any restaurant’s customer service quality.

One hamburger was ordered with mozza and well done. Arrived perfect.
Another burger was ordered with mozza and medium. Arrived perfect.
The other one was ordered with mushrooms and medium. Arrived perfect.

All the burgers arrived to our table very quickly with a heap of fries, crunchy without any hint of oil. And the fresh fried mushrooms were generous.

I have a vision of that mushroom burger in my peripheral and a guilty pleasure feeling building behind my saliva bucket. The burgers were so good that my guilt wants to go to Burgers etc alone… that’s because I want to order two for myself!

What am I saying; the burgers are already good, good, and great!

I was at Burgers Etc. yesterday for lunch and made it in after the lunch hour rush. Wanted to try out their toppings and milkshake and was pleasantly surprised. The burger was sensational! The milkshake was decent but not spectacular.

Nice to see a burger place open up in Burnaby too. Good timing with the closing of Rodeo Burger in Surrey.

Finally got to go here being in the area. The hamburger was excellent. Everything was fresh and homemade. The fries were great. At $10.00 the value is unbeatable. Although the service was good, I had to ask for cutlery, hot sauce and more naptkins as nothing came with the burger. They were friendly and polite so no big deal. After getting awful burgers for as much or more elsewhere, if I want a burger, it will be here only.

We've eaten in twice now and their burgers are very nice with a variety of topping options and a fresh handmade grilled taste. Fries have been crispy and very potato-like if you know what I mean. Not cheap eats but very good quality. Restaurant is small and busy and somewhat cosy. We'll probably return every month or so for a burger fix although the BBQ looks good too.

I tried to Burger Etc last week since there were so many positive reviews. It was a small burger restaurant that would give you a warm feeling.
The pulled pork was really good and the fries were OK. The server also told me that the burger was good as well. The only thing was the price was expensive than many other burger restaurant but it's still one of my places to eat burger.

Just plain poor BBQ!

I had wanted to sample the fare at this North Burnaby restaurant for some time. I can't speak to the quality of the burgers at this establishment because I did not have one but I did have their combination platter of pulled pork and brisket. The pulled pork was only fair but the brisket was just plain terrible. It consisted of razor thin strands of greasy beef that tasted stale and in no way resembled decent brisket.

Memphis Blues BBQ House is mediocre by true BBQ standards. This place is palpably worse.

I must say I was grossly disappointed by the poor food quality and the price was not cheap for such poor grub. Needless to say I will not be back to sample the burgers.

If a decent BBQ establishment ever opened in the Greater Vancouver region, it would make a killing!

We went to check this place out because they were voted lower mainland's best burger by CTV a few years back. We tried the burger and their brisket and ribs. This place makes a pretty darn good burger. It was thick and juicy and definitely not lacking flavor. It's pretty big too. I couldn't finish the side of fries. The brisket was decent but not great. The meat did seem like thin sliced beef that they use for beef dip. The ribs I didn't try, but was reported to be good.

The burgers are not too pricy at around $8-$9 (including one side) plus extra for toppings like bacon or cheese. A nice burger joint around the neighborhood to visit once in a while.

This kool lil' place serves up a very DECENT burger and is better than Veras or Fatburger.
The burgers can B customized and if you're in the mood for something different - they have pulled-pork and chicken burgers also. Our server suggested I try the pulled-pork next-time-round.
Good - honest burgers in North Burnaby
