Balkan House is a Serbian restaurant that features the best of Eastern European and Mediterranean cuisine. Open for lunch and dinner. Generous Sunday Buffet starting at 4pm. Join us for live music every Friday & Saturday night!
The restaurant itself needs some TLC. In reality it looks like a pub inside, kind of dark. Don't expect a loungy or fince dinning restaurant ambiance.
The menu consists mostly of Lamb, Porks & other "heavy" meats. Anyone expecting a light meal should looks somewhere else. The reality is that the restaurant caters to Eastern Europeans(Lamb, Pork, Sausages, etc). While the salad is a basic Greek, Russian, Potato, etc.
Service is not exceptional your basic mom & pop restaurant. I would suggest most people to try the Buffet on Sundays (4pm-8pm)...It gives you a good idea what eastern european food is like(not your typical superstore perogies or kelbasa(should be kielbasa))
There aren't too many(if any) FISH meals. So be ready to eat your heavy stereotypical Eeastern European meal.
Our server was nice...but the owner was aloof and cold. The place had a stifling atmosphere to it. I will never go back. I felt sorry for the waitresses as they were nice though. The owner just seemed as though he was angry and no heart to him. The place needs to be painted as well. Very dingy feel to it.
This restaurant has very generous portions of well seasoned meat that is cooked with very good technique. The sausages seem like they are quite freshly made and their roast veal or pork is second to none in my opinion. The scalloped potatoes which come with the roast are also very nicely made.
The service is prompt and the decor is pretty standard I'd think.
I went to Balkan House on a Wednesday or Thursday a while ago, with my bf and a friend of ours. The restaurant was completely empty, even so, the waitress took such a long time to come and take our drinks and food order, unbelievable!! The food was ready pretty fast. The dishes were pretty big, however the food barely had any flavor: absolutely nothing special whatsoever; the pork that I ordered was dry and the others were not happy with their food either. The restaurant looks like it came from the communist era; if that was the owner's intention then I give him a 5 star rating for that.
For anyone who enjoys eating a lot of meat for a very reasonable price, this is definitely the place for you. And not only do they give you a lot of meat with each entree, the quality of the meat (and food overall) is absolutely excellent, perhaps the best I've had at any restaurant. One would be hard pressed to find anybody leaving this restaurant still hungry. The Sunday dinner buffet is highly recommended, as it features a variety of quality dishes (lots of meat of course, but many other items as well). Overall, and absolutely excellent dining experience that will defintely have me returning time and again.
My wife and I ordered thier meat sampler for two. Besides very large portions, the 5 types of Serbian meats, every one interesting and different were very tasty. This restaurant, a bit run down, is one we will definately be going back to.
