I called here on a thursday night to see if we needed a reso or not to come in for dinner. We were told on the phone no just come by. We show up 30 minutes later at 6:30 and the bartender I think tells us we can have a table but they will need it back by 7:30. I said what do you mean? What if we aren't finished our dinner by then? I explained that we called and were told to come without a reso and he said oh some genius here must have told you that or something stupid like that. So the genius (I'm assuming the chef answered the phone) chef came out and told us we can sit, it's no problem.
Ok so we finally get a table for 2. It's a nice restaurant, waiter is efficient. We are sitting next to a large, loud party. We order a half litre of the house red chianti - $23. Good wine, more expensive for the "house red" then most places. For an appy we shared the Cozze alla Marinara - $14. (mussels in sauce) This was an excellent dish, the mussels were cooked well, the marinara was great with a slight hint of heat in it. My only complaint was that they didn't give us enough sauce. For $14 I would like to have more sauce do dip my bread into. Also the "genius" chef came out of the kitchen to wish us Buon Appetito when we started our appy. Nice of him! -)
Entree - she had the Pollo alla Baci - $19 (chicken breast with mushrooms in a brandy cream sauce) and she enjoyed it. I had the Ossobucco con risotto milanese - $25 The dish was good, would have been better if the meat was a little more tender. Overall good dish though. Throughout dinner our service got slower and slower, I guess the larger tables were spending more then just us 2 so they had first priority.
Dessert - I had the chocolate mousse - $8, she had the Creme Brulee - $8. Both were good but nothing special that would need to be ordered next time. Both were $1 over priced -) Funny thing, when we left at 8:00 (30 mins past our allowed time, lol) there was 2 empty tables behind us so I guess the chef knew more then the bar guy up front..
Overall.. Nice restaurant. Food is good. A little higher priced then similar italian restaurants in the area. I guess they have to charge more to pay for the live music (that didn't start until we were leaving so we didn't get to see how good they are)
Service was friendly once we got past the "bouncer" at the front but slowed since they were busier with the large parties sitting beside us. We might come back sometime to try out the pasta here and see the live music in the future. We will just be sure to book a reso next time to avoid the awkward entrance.
We decided to try this restaurant among the numerous ones on Hastings Street for an Italian meal.
On the outside, it looks like a typical restaurant, but once inside, the place has a lot of positives going for it. The music, the ambiance and the atmosphere in general makes you forget that the restaurant is on a busy Hastings street.
The food is decent and service was good. Would recommend here as one of the Italian restaurants to go to.
I have dined at Baci on one occasion and it was memorable for clearly superior food served by an attentive and friendly waiter who saw to it that everything was enjoyable. The portion size is excellent and I did not leave hungry. The price is fair. Altogether, this is a wonderful Italian dining establishment and is recommended without reservation.
We dined at Baci a few nights ago and really enjoyed our experience. Service was impeccable, very attentive and friendly, the owner even approached our table to ensure we were enjoying our meals. Insalata di Pomodori e Bocconcini was delicious, we could really tell a quality olive oil was used, fresh basil would have made the dish amazing, but was still well prepared. Linguini al Pesto was delicious, the homemade sauce was awesome, and the pasta was cooked perfectly al dente. My fiance really enjoyed the Penne Bolognese. Homemade bread was great.....crusty and warm. Portions were HUGE, we took so much food home, would for sure share an appy and a main dish next time we visit!!
We just had dinner here this evening, my wife and I actually were gonna go to Anton but the line was too long so we decided to try Baci, just because we had a coupon from the Entertainment book. The ambiance is nice and cozy with live entertainment and a dance floor is a plus. The food come in pretty swift, and for the price I think it could be more in portion. Seafood Fetuccini is around $19, chicken parmigiana about $19, pasta with meat sauce around $15. My wife loved her Seafood fetuccini in cream sauce, for me I think is rather bland. However, my veal with mushroom in marsala sauce is done in perfection, the veal is tender and the mash carrot concoction is unique and delicious, too bad the portion is very small. All in all if you're looking for a place to go on a date, this is it. But if you're hungry then go somewhere else, Anton, Anducci or Amarosa. I felt like eating in a french restaurant, when I consider the portion.
Had dinner here about a month ago and thought this place is worth the mention. Frequent here at least once a year and always exceptional. Always packed. The atmosphere remains the same, always fun and outstanding. As far as the food, I had the veal which was excellent, polenta, veggies all outstanding, pastas looked great and homemade pizzas looked fabulous. Country potatos needed a change of oil... just a bit off. Desserts great as well as wine selection. One of the best Italiano in town. Like many say.. one of the most romantic places. My partner, Dawn Tart agrees totally. A must come here and try, no disappointments here.
In my experience, this restaurant has poor customer service. The staff are not customer service oriented which I would have expected them to be since they are in a customer service industry. A server can make or break an otherwise okay experience. Here, the service did not help make my impression of this restaurant favorable in the slightest! The food is good and the ambiance is nice (although a paint touch up might be in order), but if you are looking to be talked to in a pleasant manner, I would recommend finding somewhere else to dine.
We dined there last night with our Groupon. The appetizer is quite nice we had antipasto for two. I had chicken breast stuffed with mozzarella and spinach, my friends had new york steak, veal and veal shank. Both the chicken and steak were pretty good, but both veals were badly cooked, for the veal I couldn't taste anything but wine, and the veal shank does not taste fresh....it's hard to describe...but it somehow had the taste of not-so-fresh lamb...Although some of the food were just ok, we were enjoying our time at the restaurant because they had live music....until when we asked for the bill....
The server came....and he already calculated the tip amount for us....we were quite offended by this act...but then we thought maybe it is customary for this restaurant because they have live music...so we asked him to come over to explain to us if that was the case....and it turned out to be NO! He kept on mentioning that we had Groupon and we already got some discount, so we should tip more like 15 to 20%...to be honest...we always tip about 13% anyways without asking...and it seems like he has a problem with us using Groupon....and I mean if he was not happy about us using Groupon...then why publish Groupon online?!??!?!.....and if he wants to enforce 15-20% tip...then why not say so on Groupon?....and if the service and food were superior, we would have no problem of tipping 15 to 20%, and it was not...our glasses were empty...it looks like they don't have enough servers...and when they came to take our plates...they literally threw our cutlery on the plates...like she was angry or something...this is definitely not a high-end service..
And, I get so annoyed when people ask for tips...because isn't the meaning of tip something that we give out as an extra to appreciate service beyond what was expected...if the service was ordinary...then why should we tip more?....or if the service was bad...why should we even tip (although we still always do)?...and when we were just trying to clarify things up...the server went all upset and said yeah just tip whatever you wanna tip....you know some customers are soo cheap..they just leave 5 bucks or nothing at all...and started complaining about other customers...and I told him he shouldn't say that about customers....like I mean...when people don't tip....why are you not thinking about your service or food or any other reasons? Why you just think they are cheap and complain about this act to other customers?? How does that make your restaurant look?
I have been to many other places with good food and good music....and if they would like to categorize them in one of the upper end restaurant....they definitely have to change their service!! He basically ruined our night!! My friends and I are active foodies...we dine out like at least 3 - 4 nights a week...and I never thought of writing a review....but last night the server really annoyed me enough that I decided to open up an account to write a review for this restaurant!...so diners be aware!! I also read the reviews before I wrote this review...and I found out it was NOT THE FIRST TIME this has happened at this restaurant...3 years ago, another diner also wrote a similar review about this...obviously they do not care about what customers say! so that's why for 3 years...they never changed!!! STRONGLY RECOMMEND GOING SOMEWHERE ELSE....
Excellent service and solid food ensure that dinner will be quite fine, although it may not be particularly creative or challenging. Sometimes, that's what you want; generous portions, quality ingredients and familiar flavors. The dining room is large, slightly apart from the small bandstand and dance floor. Walls are painted in scenes of Venice and Rome; common images of rustic Italy that would not been out of place in a 1975 restaurant.
IMO, the list of house wines needs updating. Many diners enjoy drinking wine with dinner in small amounts so a good variety of carefully chosen selections by the glass is pleasing, maybe even vital. The main list has some good selections but a few too many over-advertised names like Blue Nun and Yellow Tail.
I found the food to be awesome, and the staff was quite friendly, and funny. The atmosphere was not the best, but decent. Good place for company parties or other large functions. Has a dance floor too.
I took my mother here for her birthday dinner with my boyfriend. The service was terrible, very slow and the food was very expensive for the portions that we were given. Don't order the prawns, you only get 5 for $12.00 and the tiramisu was the size of a credit card and was $8.00.
I will only be going back because of the entertainment coupon. At least I'm not paying full price.
Went there on a Tuesday night around 5:30. When we arrived, there was only one other table with people and guess where they sat us??? Right by that table (and by the window).
Its like being in an empty theater and someone sitting right beside you or in front of you. Obviously they did it so they could look full from an outside perspective and in hind sight, I should have requested a different seat. I think they should ask where you would like to sit. Not impressed right off the bat.
The food tasted good, but I thought it was over priced and I could have made it easily at home.
Might go again next year, when I have another entertainment book coupon...
We went on a Friday night at 630, and the restaurant was already packed.
Which meant that the speed of the food coming out would be delayed. Sure enough it was.
I had their Cannelloni Rustici: Home made Veal and Spinach Cannelloni with Tomato sauce.
It was made with ground meat. which if it said on the menu, I would not have gotten it at all. It was nothing special.
We had a party of 8, and 2 of the dishes were so late that by the time it came out, the others had finished.
The only thing that saved the dinner was the waiter.
The portions were rather small and everyone at the table left hungry.
i been there twice... one a few years ago.. and i was pretty upset when i left. How can a waiter tell me to make sure i tip on the total bill before the discount. I think that's pretty damn rude. So a few years has past and i gave them another try. The risotto was maybe instant rice quality.. a bit over salty so i can't taste anything and the pasta was way too oily. Gave me an upset stomach. The waiters there make me feel like i'm being served by a bitchy uncle. The mood was ruined by constant loud phone rings and a guy at the bar keep on restarting his computer with the speaker turned all the way up so i can hear the windown start up music..
The wife and I have been coming here for years, and rarely have a bad time. We enjoy the music, and the food, which is even better! Of course they are busy on the weekends, but its never our intention to just sit down, eat and leave that quickly! We have a great time socializing with our friends, listening and dancing to the music, and when the food comes, its a real treat! You can tell that the food wasn't slapped together by any random chef, as its all very delicious!
I have recommended this place to all our family, friends, and co-workers!
Ive been to Baci twice now, I went once during the lunch hours, and another during dinner. Both were different experiences and equally wonderful. During the lunch hours a colleague of mine recommended this place, I thought to myself why not! We started with the daily soup, which was a cream of mushroom with truffle oil. The flavors exploded into my mouth, and to this day I can still taste it. For my main I had a pasta feature ($13 spaghetti carbonara), It was exquisite. One of my friends ordered a pizza, which looked delicious, so I had to steal a bit.
The next week, I took my husband there for a romantic anniversary surprise, because they apparently had a wonderful band during dinner hours, and that was a true statement. The dinner was just as good as the lunch if not better. We have a wonderful memorable time, the service was excellent and the staff was very welcoming. The prices are reasonable, for the ideal night out. I recommend this one of a kind Italian restaurant to all people who are looking for good service and delicious food.
I came here with my boyfriend, we were welcomed at the door by a gentleman, he let us know that there were to be a bit of a wait and offered us a seat at the bar while we waited, we had a couple drinks, not too pricey at all, the bartender was so pleasant, the time went by very fast ! We got to our table next to a beautiful hand painted wall of what seemed to be a painting of italy, absolutely incredible. Our server was very experienced and made it easy for us to question the menu. I had the tortellini with a rich creamy mushroom sauce, the quality of the food is fantastic and the portion is very fair. The music started around 8 which was a beautiful surprise, we danced and so did almost the whole restaurant ! Its much more then your classic dinner for two, i loved the italian feel and I had a fantastic time, Baci is definitely more of a classy crowd. I would definitely recommend this restaurant :)
Last weekend I had dinner at Baci with a few of my frieds. First we had a drink at the bar, they sure have a great selection of Martinis. We tried a few but the one that was the big hit is the pommegranate one( I forgot the name). Once we were seated we listened to the specials, our server recomended to have the antipasto to start with, they can make the platter for as many as needed. It had a very nice selection. Some of us had prosecco, it's an italian sparkling wine, the boys had the draught beer, it is called the thirsty beaver, loved the name and the taste of it even more. I am always partial too a micro brewery. Next course we had a platter of pasta (love the family style dinning) it had tortellini with wid mushroom, gnocchi with 3 or 4 cheese sauce, and a nice spaghetti with tomato and fresh basil sauce. For wine we had the Killer Cab, it is made in New West from grapes from the Napa, wonderfull wine with a very reasonable price (under $60). For main we all had our own, I had the fish of the day, it was halibut with capers and fresh herbs, some of my freiends had veal with marsala sauce others had the cioppino ( a seafood stew). we were all very impressed with our dishes. The service was amazing the whole night, I like the way they work there, 1 person in charge of your table but everyone helps out. We never had to ask for anything, it is like they can read your mind. BRAVO.
Than the live music started, what a voice on that girl!!!! They were playing all kind of music, people were dancing, later on they started playing DJ music, all the new hits, by that time we were dancing too and having a couple of shooters at the bar. We stayed until the end. They called as a designated driver, nice touch. Over all we had the best time there in a very long time. We will be back soooon. Thank you all at Baci.
Well, here's the thing....I went there last night with some friends...no special reason just some dancing and dining. When I called about 2 weeks prior for a table for 4, then asking a few friends here and there, whoever wanted to come for a nice night out, it ended up being 5 of us.
The host was rude when I called during the day saying that it might be 2 more people at my table, the person I spoke to was rude and not friendly at all on the phone. He only said to call back with a for sure head count. I could not be on the phone all day and I did not have time to call Baci's back. So, when arrival I asked if possible for one more person. Again, rude and not friendly. When seated I noticed there was one or two tables available during our meal, by then it looked like there was more than 5 tables available.
The host made it sound like it was packed which I was telling my girlfriend to look around and tell me if it was my imagination. Which I was right. There was tables and the host made me feel like - - - -!! During the whole day when I talked early before and during the stay.
Food is alright, good prices, service can be nicer. The water girl was the best. Music is great....if you are into Ballroom dancing music and a little of English, Oldies and hard to request some Middle Eastern Music, I think the owner wants to keep it more Italian, which I am, but I really do enjoy listening to Middle Eastern Music also.
The owner of Baci's is Iranian so you can see where I am coming from when requesting some Iranian Music, and it looked like there was a bunch of ladies that would of appreciated it more.
I think we were waiting for Iranian Music more than anything, but I do enjoy all types of Music, especially the old Italian music (wedding music).
All in all, good food, good prices (especially because you stay there for the whole night), can be better and friendlier service and especially from the Host.
Must try place if you never tried it yet. You can request music, but you will hear mostly Spanish music.
Baci restaurant is excellent if you want quality authentic Italian for a reasonable price. I live in Vancouver, but to get good Italian food, you have to go to one of the expensive downtown restaurants. We had seafood linguine which I was craving, and my hubby had spinach veal cannelloni. I switched my sauce to a garlic cream, and I have to say it was awesome. I am picky about seafood, which has to be fresh and succulent. The seafood was delicious and both our sauces were amazing. I would highly recommend this. I also looked up about 7 other Italian restaurants including the downtown ones, and couldn't find a menu offering a true seafood linguine that had mussels, clams, scallops, shrimp and jumbo prawn like Baci did.
