Vietnamese restaurant that offers a variety of dishes, such as sandwiches, curry, pho and spring rolls.
Good things do come in small packages sometimes. This family restaurant has only about 8-9 tables and one waitress. When we went there today, it was almost full house. The waitress was working non-stop, serving some 20+ people, but she was wearing a pleasant smile all the time and was attentive to all the customers. Food is well-prepared and comes in generous portions. The value is definitely unbeatable. As for ambiance, the restaurant is small and kept very clean. It was hardly surprising that a lot of people who came in looked like they were repeat customers. Highly recommended if you like Vietnamese food.
Came here for take-out the other day as I've been reading all the good reviews about this place. I had a shrimp salad roll and a curry chicken. The salad roll was quite good, it was a bit different than most salad rolls, there was a crunch to it. The curry chicken was okay. I came back for take-out today as I also wanted to try their pho, which was supposed to be good, so again I ordered the salad roll and a bowl of pho, it was pretty good, again a little different than other pho's I've had. Overall it was pretty good and I'll be back, it's just a small little place and the lady who served me both times (I"m guessing she's the owner) was very nice.
We decided to give this place a try upon seeing the positive reviews on DH. Pretty much like most Vietnamese restaurants, the food here is cheap. As a bonus it's delicious too.
We tried their pho, prawn brochette combo, salad roll, and vietnamese sub. The pho soup was a bit darker than what I'm used to, but tasted very good. My Vietnamese friend said it was about as authentic as she's ever tasted in a Vietnamese restaurant here. The salad roll and sub were good, but not too memorable. The spring roll that came with the prawn brochette was excellent. Very meaty. The reason I only give the food rating a 3 is because an hour after the meal, I became extremely thirsty. I guess there was MSG in the food after all. Still, I think we will return one of these days when we're around Kingsway.
Arrived 15 minutes before closing on a Sunday and was told it was no problem. Restaurant is small with 30 seats. Very clean and functional. Waitress was friendly and very helpful. When the food arrived we were told to take our time and not worry about the front lights being turned off. Food was good and the prices were right. Restroom was unisex and clean. Good vibes, will return.
Had lunch here several times in the past. They have a good selection of food, although a limited selection of pho. I would probably not come here just for the pho, but its pretty decent here. I have tried their curries, their spring rolls, pho, their lunch specials which are around $8 as well as their sandwiches which are a good value at under $3. Me and my friend usually come here and get full for under $20 total.
I find the service friendly and prompt. They only have one server but she works hard and always has a smile on her face. Things may get slow in a full house, but I am usually there when its only half full, and the waitress always comes around and refills tea as well as taking away empty plates. Food seems to come out in less than 10 minutes.
Its clean but otherwise nothing special inside.
At this price point, this is probably my favorite asian restaurant. Highly recommended.
My gf wanted to come here after reading some of the reviews from here. We got there at around 2:30, so parking was a bit tough to find (spots in the parking lot were full, and street parking ends at 3:00). the outside looks like any other viet restaurant, but once inside, you get surprise after surprise.
Food - 3 - my gf and I both had a noodle soup and a spring roll. I thought the noodle soup was ok, not really enough flavour, but that's also a good thing, I guess( less msg). The spring roll, wasn't great, a little spicy (which I didn't like), better than a lot of other places though. Overall, I thought the food was decent, but this might be one of those places where you want to go try it for yourself. My gf loved the food, so it could be more about personal taste.
Service - 5 - Nothing to complain about, service was great. the server smiled the second we got in and showed us to a seat, gave us menu and tea right away. She didn't bother us at all while we were deciding, but the second the menus closed, she was ready to take our order. She also seemed very familiar with her regulars which is very nice.
Value - 3.5 - The pho was one size only, cost about $6-7 a bowl, and is about the large size at other places. This is a pretty good deal for the price. I thought there wasn't enough meat (got about 8-10 slices), but its still a pretty good meal for the price.
Ambiance - 5 - This is perhaps the biggest surprise. Coming from East Van, most pho places, even the cleanest, are still fairly dirty. This place was practically spotless. The tables gave the place a nice cafe look, and the decorations made it look a little classy.
Overall, this is a nice place, and I would definitely go back when I am in the area. Even though I wasn't WOWed by the food, I think it deserves another try. Ambiance and Service got full marks, and food and value was okay. If you are near metrotown (about 8 blocks east) and feel like pho, you should give this restaurant a try.
Stopped in here for lunch on the way to some shopping at Metrotown. I found the place on this website and the gf loves vietnamese. She's always looking for a place that can serve authentic (and good!) shrimp roll on bamboo. Suffice to say, we ordered that, plus the garlic chicken wings and a bowl of pho to share.
The food was above average, but with several complaints. The shrimp roll wasn't too great according to the critic, but was still much better than other places we have tried. The wings were juicy, but somewhat bland and not hot enough. The bowl of pho was great though, with a deep brown broth like others have stated before. Nothing bad to say about that.
The lady there was chinese, so I don't know how authentic you can say the vietnamese food really was, but she was friendly and was quick to serve. The restaurant definitely was neater and cleaner than most vietnamese places, to echo previous reviewers. And, of course, being pho, it's not the priciest food around, but decently priced for the type of food. I think it was worth it.
We'll come back though, to try their spring rolls. From what I saw of other patrons who ordered it, it looks to be the real deal, with the thick, crunchy wrapping instead of that thin crispy dim sum cop-out style. 'Til next time...
I've driven past this place many times and always wanted to try it out.
I'd have to say, it was super clean inside. It wasn't what I expected. The food was great. We had the combo - prawn brochette/ chicken brochette/ deep friend wonton with rice and the pho. The food was much better than most places. It tastes alot healther, not oily at all like most places, and the vegetables/basil leaves were all fresh. It's alot better than most of the pho restaurants down the street. I'd have to say the pho broth was soooo delicious! I devoured the entire thing, including the entire soup, and I usually don't do that.
I will definitely be going back, as this will be my new pho spot.
I visited this cozy little place on Kingsway and had a nice experience! I ordered the lemon grass chicken dish which you can't go wrong with but theirs was sprinkled with dried garlic which added a little extra kick to it. All of the other rice dishes that were ordered also had garlic on top of it (something to note if you're not a garlic kinda person) Service was quick and courteous, I will probably return if i'm in the area.
Asian 54 is a great little gem near Metrotown. I usually order a delicious beef pho and salad rolls to share. Their salad rolls have crunchy bits of fried spring roll in them and are super delish. The waitress here knows me and has always been very friendly. I take my friends here often. Nothing better on a soggy day than some nice hot pho!
~ Remember to bring cash!
I really like Asian 54. It's probably my new favorite pho place in the Vancouver area, and it's centrally-located near Metrotown.
It's clean and bright and the service is quick and friendly. Their pho is great, with nice beefy broth and their spring rolls were a particular standout for me as well - much heartier than most. Good drinks, too, and last but not least, cheap, as pho places generally are.
I came here after seeing the high rating (4/5 stars), which elevated it to the top of the Vietnamese restaurants in Burnaby. I ordered a bowl of rare beef, ox flank, and tendon pho noodle soup. The service was fast, attentive, and happy. The food was just average, considering the high calibre of Vietnamese restaurants in metro vancouver. The rare beef was cooked through and rather dry (compared to the Green Bamboo where the beef dissolves in your mouth), and the 3 tendon pieces were rather small (compared the ones at Lao Shandong which are the size of hands). Still it was quite satisfying.
This small place is small and can easily be passed by if you aren't looking for it but you would be missing out if you did.
They offer a few lunch combos on top of the regular fare and you cant go wrong choosing either one. The service was good and food was great. I also ordered a vietnamese sub to take home and that was super tasty too. Make sure you come as early as possible for weekday lunch as it got full really fast.
Located on Kingsway at the corner or Royal Oak, I stumbled upon this place on my search for Pho. I've been to a few of the other Vietnamese restaurants in the area and having been turned off by the other ones due to cleanliness came up on this place. It's small, sit about 20 or so people. Only one person works in the front and probably 2 in the kitchen, but it's bright and looks clean. They have a limited amount of Pho options but it's decent. I usually go for their specials - which they have 3 options. All three around around $7.50.00 - the one I get comes with rice or vermicelli, grilled pork and grilled prawn skewer, spring rolls and deep fried wontons.
After reading all the positive comments here on the website, my friend and I have decided to give it a try. We went there yesterday for supper. The restaurant was small, but very clean and tidy. We were greeted and seated promptly by the waitress, and she was friendly and welcoming.
We've ordered the soup noodles and the spring rolls. The spring rolls were crispy and fresh, and werent too greasy at all. The portion was quite generous as well. The soup noodles was also very good. When the environment is clean, it kind of makes everything taste a little better.
I will for sure go back to this restaurant again, I am interested in trying out the other items on the menu. I would also recommend this restaurant to everyone!
I've been looking for a good vietnamese restaurant in burnaby for quite a while. Am I ever glad I decided to try this place after reading all the reviews. This is my new favorite vietnamese restaurant. The value is excellent and the food is as well. The lady serving us was really friendly and attentive. I will definitely be returing and bringing others as well. The best part is that it's close to home.
I've been here several times and I enjoyed the food each time. As others have said it's a small place and the lady that works at the front is always pleasant.
Their selection of pho is quite small and portions are alright. Their combos (see menu under glass at table) are a good value and very tasty.
We go there regularly sunday after church. Nice little gem of a place. Good value and service. Great Pho, salad rolls, and viet sandwich for only $2.75!!!! I recommend their pho, salad rolls and viet sandwich!!! The place is clean and the lady is really nice and fills up our tea regularly with out us having to ask. I think Asian 54 hands down beats out all the other pho places in terms of value and freshness of the food. GO ASIAN 54
Intro: I live a 10 minute walk away from this little restaurant and ever since they've opened, I've been going there at least once a week. I was so obsessed with this place that at times I went 3-4 times a week.
Service: Service is as good as it gets, especially from an Asian restaurant. There's only one server since the restaurant is pretty small, but one is enough as she's very attentive. I'm pretty picky about my pho, but the waitress gets it right every time. In fact, I go there so much that she's memorized my usual order, so I don't even have to repeat it every time anymore. Other pho places NEVER get my order right, so this is pretty amazing!
Food: The pho is not the best I've tried, but still pretty good. The broth is brown, unlike most pho places which has clearish white broth. I like to believe that the brown broth is a good sign of stewed meat and beef rather than a ton of MSG and salt that clear soups have. Their springrolls and sandwiches are very good. their rice dishes could be better, but I usually order pho over rice in any vietnamese restaurant anyhow.
Value: The prices are very fair. I usually go dine there with one other person and we spend less than $15 every time.
Ambiance: The restaurant is decorated nicely, and is always clean.
Overall: It's a top notch vietnamese restaurant that rates high in all categories, especially service. I highly recommend this restaurant to all noodle soup, pho, and vietnamese cuisine lovers.
The cleanest vietnamese restaurant I have every been!
I have dined there for more than 10 times and just keep coming back for the lemon chicken rice combo. The have nice spring rolls too! So definitely don't miss their spring rolls.
Their beef noodle soup is also very special...you can taste the thickness however you won't feel it salty or too heavy.
It's a hiding jewel in the small neighborhood!!!
