Anton's is a one of a kind restaurant in the Greater Vancouver area. Pasta portions are very large and reasonably priced. There is usually a line up outside the door so come early.
Hours: Monday to Thursday (11:30 am to 10:30 pm), Friday and Saturday (11:30 am to 11:00 pm), Sundays and Holidays (4:00 pm to 10:00 pm)
Last Saturday I was craving pasta .
I had not been to Anton's for few years now. I used to go there a lot but since I moved away from the area it was not easy to get there , anyhow , I decide to go and have a big dish of pasta. But to my surprise it was not as good as I remember it . Maybe since I have tried many good restaurant in town , my taste had changed or maybe we have such a wide variety of good food and restaurants in our town now .
It defiantly filled me up but I still am in search of better pasta bar.
I did enjoy going to Antons pasta bar for many years before I had my kids, but we stopped going there when the the waitress brought our drinks on a tray and came between my wife and 3 year old son instead of coming to the end of the table like common sense would dictate instead of squeezing between 2 people. The tray was dumped and scalding hot water burned my sons shoulder, arm and went all the way down his leg and filled his boot with the hot water. We did not even know about the ankle burn until after we got home from Burnaby hospital emergency. The ankle burn was the worst.
The waitress and owner of Antons pasta bar who was in the restaurant at the time of the incident did not even apologize to us. All he did was give me his business card when I requested it.
It was an unfortunate incident, but we do not go there anymore because of how they treated us at that moment in time. It was like he was expecting us to pursue them with legal actions for negligence.
The food was good. The portions were incredible, but the wait sucked. I don't know if it is worth the wait to get big portions of pasta. I am not sure if I would go back or not as I don't like waiting. I would like someone to bring me the food though. Does that count?
I personally say that because it's true! If you like the large portions that over load your tastebuds, this is it.
I like it, but i think it's a bit heavy. Everything on the menu tastes great, just don't get the red sauce, since its regular ol'tomato sauce. Service is dependent. I say that because i've been here numerous times, and i've been seated all over the place. Make sure you get seated where a waitress walks by. If you're stuck in a corner seat, good luck, you might as well walk over to him/her. The value of the meal is a 5/5 for me. Always a good stuffer, and with left-overs to boot! Mind you, make sure if you're going to bring back food, don't bring seafood back. Seafood will quickly turn nasty overnight.
Always good food - try their curried pasta - pretty great (but feels a bit heavy).
The service is also always friendly even when it is very busy. But the big positive is the value, as it should be for a pasta place.
I actually have no complaints and I haven't been able to find a better pasta place yet in terms of food quality, service, and value.
Our favorite Italian restaurant - yeah so you have to wait outside, good time to meet your neighbors or make new friends. Tough to seat large parties so limit your group to 4 and you will be happier - hey it's a small place - and yeah they don't seat you till your all there which is fair to all the others in line. Now the food - have tried something different almost every time and have never been disappointed and I've never left without a doggy bag. Staff are great some of them have been there for years and are always willing to explain a dish or offer suggestions. Will go again next time we are in Burnaby.
went there around 5:45pm, 4 of us wait for about an hour, not THAT bad :P
Bruschetta Bread with tomatoes - pretty good, the bread was crispy
Mista Salad - nothing really special, but BIG portion
Penne Antonio - pretty good, very creamy
Lasagna - the meat sauce was great, but not hot enough
total bills come to $56 with tips and taxes and 1 BIG box of leftover
i wouldn't say the pasta is the best, but for this value, what can you expect ~
All I can say about this place is that the portions are large.
Pasta is pasta. Large portions put me off and I don't like leftover pasta. When I was asked if I wanted to take the leftovers home I was greeted with a shocked look. It wasn't good enough to eat a second time or a first time. Our fellow patrons were happy and boisterous which was nice. Waitresses very good. Can't figure out why anyone would line up for the food, tho. If you are on a strict budget and need to have the leftovers for 2 nights then this place is it.

Hearing about this legendary place for so many years has had me place this
restaurant on my "must go to" list before I die.
First off... the phone number for this listing is incorrect!!! It is 604-299-6636.
Second....be prepared to wait!!!! It is obvious from all the reviews that this is
the norm for this restaurant and patrons should not be surprised or annoyed
about this fact.
Third.....the restaurant has a standing policy if your party is NOT completely
there to be seated right away the you will NOT be given a table. If you have
a party of 10 and only 9 people are there they will make an exception but if
you are a party of 10 and only 7 or 8 are there you will have to wait until your
party is complete.
All pasta dishes are $14.95, other priced dishes are marked on the menu.
You have many choices of sauces to choose from. The sauces are divided
into 4 sections (red, white, clear, seafood) and within each section there are
6-9 different types of dishes.
Risotto is available. 3 types of desserts (cheesecake, tiramisu, i can't
remember the 3rd). Good variety of wine choices.
We were a party of 8 adults and 2 children.
We were a full party at 7pm and seated within 15 minutes.
We ordered the 3 appetizers. One soup. 5 different pasta dishes. One
cheesecake for the kids.
The pasta portions are huge for one person. Almost anything can be added
to the dish if you have a special hankering for something (for a nominal fee).
I gave the food only a 3 because I am of the opinion that we are all pasta
"chefs". We all have a certain way that we like our pasta and sauces. So if
you have a certan way you like your pasta let the server know.
Everyone in our group liked the dishes.
Everyone said they would go back and eat there again.
And I think I saw Anton!!!! ;)
My wife and I went here tonight and both of us being Italian we were disgusted. The pasta tasted like Chef Boyardee. Sure the prices and portions are great but the food is crap. My grandma would be turning in her grave if she knew I ate at this restaurant.
The ambiance is casual and clean and the service is very good.
This was the first and only time I have eaten here and I will never forget about 12 years ago visiting a friend who lived across the lane from the restauarant and peeking in the back door to see large cannisters of premade pasta sauce. At least they are pretty consistent........
first time i went to anton's was back in 2002. I had the tortellini and man it was AWESOME. However, i returned about 8 months ago, and I had the penne alfredo i think it was, and BOY OH BOY, i had serious indigestion the next day....in other words...i had the runs! Not only me, but everyone i went with had the runs! And truth be told, NOW, their food is quantity over quality, and it tastes funky and isnt all that great anymore. It has too much sauce and the sauce is so fattening u can taste the fat in your mouth as you eat it and it's so greasy and the level of greasiness gave us indigestion Anton's is overrated, hands down! The line ups are ridiculous specially during winter!!!!!!!! COLD!
anyway, i have now switched over to bombay behl, which is an indian cuisine right by anton's. There are no line ups, the food is well porportioned and the quality is hands down AMAZING! and the service is great!
antons has good service once ur inside, but the food is not worth the long wait!
never going back after the indigestion problems
Anton's is a Burnaby legend. I've been going there for the better part of twenty years and their food has been consistent throughout. The pasta sauces are better than other Italian restaurant I've tried. Such flavour! Portions are huge too. So basically quantity and quality all in one. The variety of dishes is also really substantive, something to please most palates. I especially like how the vegetarian pasta dishes are so flavourful. Good quality dinner buns too; they don't skimp like some other restaurants. Service is reliablly good, regardless of how busy. Ambiance is not the greatest but the black & white posters on the walls are fun, and the open kitchen is a bonus too.
Almost every time i go there, the line is huge and I've even gone on their off hours. There food is delicious, the portions yes are huge -i usually eat the pasta for a couple days after, I've never been disappointed food wise. The service, i suppose is as good as it could be for the volume they have to deal with but it does kinda wreck the ambiance when you have to wait for an hour or more just to sit down at a table.
Overall, five stars if you are a hungry but discerning university student, four stars if you are not and didn't have to wait in line, and three stars otherwise.
The ambiance and service are generally great and the pasta is actually quite good, but not worth waiting in an hour long line-up for unless you really want the two days worth of left-overs.
Ladies and Gents, for a large bowl of tasty pasta you cant beat Antons. The food was wonderful. They dont cook the pasta to a point where its soggy like other pasta places. The line-up is a little excessive but if you take your food to go there is no wait at all.
You know we went here trying to figure out why antons is so busy and popular . We had a very disapointing evening . Pasta was waay overcooked by the children working in the kitchen. That is basically the main reason to go there. Im thinking the huge lineups are full of people who dont know any better at this point. Either that or they really appreciate the bigger is better mentality they have going on there. Either way we were disapointed and would never go back.
This place was super busy the day i decided to go there! I guess thats what success does to you! The wait was worth it, their food is amazing and come in large portions, I remeber they had a promotion thing happening "if you can finish your plate you eat for free". Sadly I couldn't even finish my plate because there was so much! Since it was very busy the service was not that great (understandable). Overall nice family restaurant!
My son and I have been going to Anton's for years. We usually go at lunch or
early, like 4:30 for an early dinner to beat the line up. We have tried a few different things but always go back to the penne bombay! If you like curry and seafood it's the best. Creamy piping hot and delicious. We usually have to go once a month for an Anton's fix. Simple, reasonable, low keyed. We love it!!
I've had their pasta dish many times, but the service and quality have declined over the years. I don't get why people are still lining up for hours, just because the portion is big, it doesn't mean the quality is good.
I've gone here a few times. The portions are huge. Good thing taking the left over home is an option. Most nights there is a line outside the restaurant, but isn't that a good sign? I've always enjoyed what I order and I always order the same thing, the penne with artichoke and creamy tomato sauce. It's soooo good. I don't know why so many reviews are criticizing this place; obviously service will be a bit slow if the restaurant is busy. Calling the chefs "children" is ridiculous. Unless you go to an internationally acclaimed 5-star restaurant run by a world famous chef, the cooks will be young adults, probably with little or no professional training. Deny it all you want, but the cooks at Anton's are glorified McDonald's workers. Maybe your standards are too high? Whatever. This place is worth a try. For $14 and the amount of pasta you get, you can't really go wrong.
