Anton's is a one of a kind restaurant in the Greater Vancouver area. Pasta portions are very large and reasonably priced. There is usually a line up outside the door so come early.
Hours: Monday to Thursday (11:30 am to 10:30 pm), Friday and Saturday (11:30 am to 11:00 pm), Sundays and Holidays (4:00 pm to 10:00 pm)
Simply, I have never left hungry or unhappy. I have been to Anton's hundreds of times over the years. Be prepared for crowed tables and busy servers and long waits but its worth it. Not a place for a first date, a place to have great pasta at an excellent value.
the food was HUGE. 2 of my girlfriends and i went and ordered 2 plates and had 2 boxes of leftovers to bring home. 10bux each. haha. food tasted great, i wouldnt say it was INCREDIBLE but hey what do u expect at that price? food is still 8/10 in my books
long lineup, can get quite noisy. servers have too much on their hands so service can be quite poor at times.
i would just call and order takeout
This place is essentially a legend, known for good quality food, huge portions, gorgeous servers. The downside is that the servers are bitches who think the are 'owed' a tip simply for picking up takeout and they all have real attitudes. The food is i would say above average quality, not great, but certainly avoid their meat if you don't like gristle or the taste of poor quality meat. They really pack the dining area, all open tables so you get to know your neighbors very well, sights, smells and dinner conversation (people talk really boisterously loud there). I really liked using this place for take out until recently when they implemented a no take out policy during the hours of 5-8pm. So basically ive almost written this place off. Its sort of the italian equivalent of Stepho's greek restaurant in downtown vancouver.
My friends and I eat here once every few months whenever we have a huge craving for pasta. The food is pretty good and the portions are quite large. Just make sure you come with an empty stomach. The place is always busy, so be prepared for a line.
That restaurant gave me the first impression that food should be fresh since I had to wait for 20 mins for a seat. In fact, I had no complain about their food and services. The portion that they given would enough for 2 person. I will come back with my faimly next time. (Remind people that there is a minimum charge for each person, so be prepare ask the server pack the rest to go)
Everyday we pass by Anton's on our way to work and home, always see people lining up, the same every night, every kind of weather, so we've been too scared to go becase of that endless line up. Yesterday had a day off, decided to go for lunch at Anton's. Had to wait even at lunch time, that just shows how busy this place is. My friend ordered the Penne Bombay, it was very very good, and my seafood pasta was fulfilling as well. Our server kept coming back to ask if we needed anything, and my friend got his pop refilled 3 times! Overall it was a good meal, decent service at a super busy place.
I used to go to this place in the 90's when I was a poor university kid....but I saw the light after going there a few times.
Take a look at the people who line up outside (same crowd as the Stephos cue)....the dude in his 20-30's...limited on budget, hungry as a horse and just starting to experience life and really hasn't experienced the finer things in life. Don't get me wrong, I'm not into snooty fusion food where you pay a lot and get small portions presented nicely to you. I just have to say Anton's is a big pile of Chef Boy Ardee calibre pasta given to you so much you have to take home and think you got such an awesome deal (which is true).
I'm sorry the say the demographics is the quantity over quality crowd...the Costco people.
Pasta is descent, but not even close to being awesome or outstanding. Obviously people giving it 5 stars has either really haven't been around too much or have low expectations.
I don't know why some people are saying the pasta is low quality. They have some of the tastiest sauces I've ever had. Not only that, they have an amazing selection. The menu is so large you won't know what to order, but stick with what you know you like at first, then gain the confidence to try something different the second time. I've been going there for a long time; haven't seen any decrease in quality like the other gentleman mentioned. Just go!
My housemates and I love this restaurant and eat here about once a month. The food is good, the portions ginormous, the service is friendly and prompt. We can be in and out in under an hour, our wallets are barely any lighter, and we have leftovers to feed us for the rest of the week. Sorted.
My only quandry is: where is anton?
I took a trip to Vancouver 2 weeks ago and I was brought to this resturant and man it was the best pasta I have ever had. Great value for your money. Can't wait till next summer. There was 9 of us and we all took bites off eachothers plates. Everyone was amazed at how ever dish was amazing. I have been craving it ever since my return home. there clear sauce dishes are the best I have ever tasted. Great selection of ingredients and everything cooked to perfection.
Anton's is the Stepho's of Italian food. The portions are big, the price is small, and the lines to wait for a table are long! Once you get seated, prepare to wait a while for someone to come by and take your order. However, the waitresses that I've had have always been nice. The food takes a while to come but you can't complain because the amount they give you is HUUUGE. When the bill comes along, don't be suprised - they haven't miscalculated.
Although I wouldn't wait in line for Anton's, I do think they offer a great meal if you're willing to pick it up. Their pasta menu is huge; the food is more than decent; and the prices are reasonable. I like the variety they offer and the food is usually really fresh and flavourful. It's an excellent on-the-run dinner, especially if you're really hungry!
It' s was my first experience to wait more than 1/2 hour to sit in. The portion of the pasta is really BIG and I think no one can finish it. This is a good restaurant for people getting fresh pasta but the environment is too noisy. If you can't wait 1/2 hour, please go to the restaurant as early as possible.
The only thing going for this place is the size of it's portions. The service every time i've been there has been horribly negligent, and the line ups to get into the place are obscene. This place is way about the hype, and less about the taste of the food. Because there is such a long line up, the staff believe they can treat their customers like crap. It's worth going if you want a big portion you can eat for 4 meals.
The real winners eat at Anton's at 2-4 pm. Avoid the lines, and your entire experience is improved. The real kicker here is value, but it does not come at the cost of quality. Great food at an awesome price. I'm always full and satisfied when I visit my favourite pasta bar in the city!
I went to this place many times. Despite being in the burnaby I think the food worth the travel time. You should also expect to stand in the line for between 10~30 minutes.
From the quality point of view, I can say that the food is very very delicious. But I agree with some reviews that it is somewhat greasy or there is not alot of meet etc. I like Penne Antonio and Fusilli Alla Toscana. Their baked dishes are also worth trying.
I sent a review for this place months ago, but feel I need to adjust it as it is way higher than my real experience.
Long story short, if volume is more important than quality for you - Anton's is your place (and if you prefer American style pasta to Italian). But really, you're not getting good quality pasta dishes . They simply dump in a whole load (not exagerating)of lower quality pasta, barely average sauce, but no more meat than you would get anywhere else (so it's really imbalanced).
Hey, this formula is making the owners rich - but is that the basis for good food? Avoid the temptation to eat your weight in food, and go somewhere down the street where you'll still be full and even savour the food you're eating.
Honking huge portions of pasta, even for lunch! I often take leftovers home. When I go there for supper, I have to split an entree with a friend. Good selection of pastas based on different sauces (clear, cream, tomato, or specialty). I recommend the curry or pesto sauce dishes. Good steamed milk and Italian orange or lemon soda. Service has always been prompt and enthusiastic. Setting is casual and the place seems clean.
I'm not a pasta person usually, but I was persuaded to try this place b/c everyone seemed to rave so much about the huge portions. Did I mention I'm also not really an all-you-can eat fan? After waiting an hour in line, I was definitely looking to be impressed. The surprise was, that everyone was right! My chicken/mushroom/pesto pasta was fantastic, if a bit too heavy on the garlic. Despite the restaurant being packed, our server was friendly, helpful, and the food arrived in a timely manner. None of us at the table could finish our meals and I ended up eating my pasta over the course of the next 3 days, but after those 3 days, I still wanted more. Now that's the mark of a good restaurant.
This place is definitely sinking. I definitely don't want to go back again. For their type of pricing, I could settle for better. I went during the afternoon hours, and it was relatively quiet. I ordered the Linguini Alle Vongole (clams in a white wine sauce). It was covered with cheese on the top, and I was sort of surprised at this. Authentically, Italians NEVER mix cheese with seafood, especially shellfish.
Plus, I don't eat cheese. So it wasn't off to a good start.
The server looked annoyed when I told her that. She sighed and took my plate away. She had the "Sigh, I'm only doing this because I'm being paid to" attitude.
Anyway, it's bland and boring here.
