Anton's is a one of a kind restaurant in the Greater Vancouver area. Pasta portions are very large and reasonably priced. There is usually a line up outside the door so come early.
Hours: Monday to Thursday (11:30 am to 10:30 pm), Friday and Saturday (11:30 am to 11:00 pm), Sundays and Holidays (4:00 pm to 10:00 pm)
The pasta was of poor quality. Very doughy, and a bit overcooked. The sauce was good. You can find better quality pasta just about anywhere. It is really about whether you want good food, or a lot of mediocre food. Lots of leftovers, but not worth the wait. I don't understand why people wait so long in line for this place.

I have a very tough time choosing what to have, as the menu is exhaustive and there are so many great dishes. I've never been able to finish a dish, although I've tried very hard. This place is a classic lower-mainland restaurant with a huge reputation and even bigger servings. I'm not arguing that Anton's is the best Italian restaurant around, but the overall experience and the tasty dishes make this a very obvious choice for a great dinner out.
This past weekend my family and I went to Anton's for dinner. We were a party of six and three of us had arrived prior to the restaraunt opening up and stood in line. We told the hostess that the others would be here any minute but as anyone who had ever eaten at Anton's before knows, they will not seat you until your entire party arrives. By the time the remainder of our party arrived ten minutes later the restaraunt was full and as it was the start of the dinner hour we were told we would have to wait at least an hour, if not more, before a table would be available (in the past we have waited up to an hour and half to get seated). I understand waiting if we had arrived at 6:00 but being one of the first ones in the door I have to say the situation frustrated me to no end as I saw table after table being filled.
I spoke to the hostess and told her that I understood that it was Anton's policy and there was nothing she could do about it but said that in any other restaurant we would have been seated. I normally wouldn't have said anything but this time I felt that if I didn't then nothing would ever change. Our family decided not to wait, as we had a five month old baby with us and, as a curtesy to the staff, we told the hostess. At this point in time we would have returned again but to add insult to injury, as we were leaving we caught a glimpse of the hostess, along with another staff member, watching us go and laughing at us. Its obvious the staff doesn't care whether or not they lose a customer who has been coming for over 10 years but maybe "someone" else should but then again, as I've read in some of the previous reviews, I don't think they really care. The food is great and we'll really miss going there...
Always dependable for a filling, if overly filling, pasta fix (but who doesn't want leftovers?). Very tasty, although I would agree a little on the heavy side, but hey, I don't go that often. Service is generally good, just get there early to avoid the line! I've tried other pasta places but I keep coming back to Anton's, so they must be doing something right.
I personally say that because it's true! If you like the large portions that over load your tastebuds, this is it.
I like it, but i think it's a bit heavy. Everything on the menu tastes great, just don't get the red sauce, since its regular ol'tomato sauce. Service is dependent. I say that because i've been here numerous times, and i've been seated all over the place. Make sure you get seated where a waitress walks by. If you're stuck in a corner seat, good luck, you might as well walk over to him/her. The value of the meal is a 5/5 for me. Always a good stuffer, and with left-overs to boot! Mind you, make sure if you're going to bring back food, don't bring seafood back. Seafood will quickly turn nasty overnight.
There were 8 of us. I am aware that there is always a wait and no reservations and that accommodating large parties is difficult. My son wanted to go there for his birthday, and we have been several times so I wanted to go for him.
The lack of concern for good service and actually caring about customers is so obvious. It is clear that their motivation is profit over people. 6 of us waited in line for some time, waiting for the other 2 people on their way. We were told several times that we could not be seated till everyone arrived, essentially being told we were not being honest when we told the staff that they were coming. We waited and we waited. We watched people go in, we waited. Everyone arrived and we waited. We were told that it would be “20 minutes”. We waited. It is after an hour now. It is my son’s birthday, he is feeling terrible that he has invited us to a place that makes us wait. After 30 minutes, not the 20 I was told we were asked if we would like to sit separately at 2 tables of 4. It is a birthday dinner, so this is not possible. We eventually got cramped into the middle of the restaurant at a table for 8 to be told pasta would be 20 minutes or more.
I am always shocked that people will blindly to wait in line to stuff their faces in a cramped restaurant. I was not surprised to read how many people have written negative reviews about this restaurant.
Service is rude and they essentially ignore anyone who is not ready at that moment to order.
Ambience is cramped, busy and waiting in line to huff in cigarette smoke of others who are waiting is just disgraceful.
Food, sure you get large portions but it is generic, bland food.
NEVER returning and am telling everyone I speak to about how bad Anton's has become. I just do not think they care.
The amount of "extras", pre-dinner glasses of wine, appy's etc that could be ordered while waiting for the last 2 people to show up would certainly be more worth it from a financial sense than the loss of custom this restaurant must surely get from disgruntled customers.
not sure why people flock to this place, service is primitive - they're not flexible in accommodating a big group. if you're a couple then sure you won't have a problem but anything more than 4 becomes something of a problem for the restaurant - as they see it as an insurmountable task to seat a number of people.
just go to Anducci's where the food is decent and service excellent. it's on 6011 E. Hastings, just 6 minutes drive from Anton's
I went to Anton's last week at 3 pm for a late lunch after hearing a good review of this restaurant. The ambiance is alright, kind of has a pub appeal, nothing too special. My friend and I were seated at 3pm and had to wait over 15 minutes to put our drink orders in. This was not acceptable as the restaurant was nearly empty and our server had gone to the table next to ours several times and proceeded to ignore my table. Finally, at 3:30 our server (a middle aged blonde woman) came over and took our orders that we had ordered off the lunch menu. The woman that took our orders failed to address any of our questions when we asked about the most popular dishes. It appeared as though she was impatient or in a big rush but this was strange as the restaurant was empty. My friend and I ordered the salmon linguini in a creamy dill sauce & the gnocci with a creamy tomato meat sauce. When our food arrived the serving portions were huge. Our server plopped them in front of us saying, "oh yeah, at 3:30 the lunch switches over to dinner." We were shocked that she had not bothered to tell us this when we had first placed our orders! The gnocci was better than the linguni but both were overcooked and disapointing. The sauce was watery and the pasta was not very flavorfull. Our server did not quality check the food. We of course were unable to eat the large amount of food in front of us and asked for it wrapped up & requested the bill. The bill arrived and our pastas were priced @ $16.95 instead of $10.95 as what we had pointed to off the menu and had ordered. I then had to get up and find our server after minutes of waiting. I asked her if there are two separate menus for lunch and dinner and she said there are. I then asked why, if we were given a dinner meal, were we not given dinner menus. She said that it automatically changes over @ 3: 30 as if we were supposed to know this. I told her that she should have let us know this and it is unacceptable to order one thing and be brought another and then charged more for it. She told us she would change the price but she was going to take our packaged food away from us! I was in complete shock. Not only did our server wait half an hour to take our orders, she was arguing with us and threatening to take away our packaged leftovers. As a server myself I know that this is completely innapropriate behaviour. We paid our bill and for the first time in my life, I refused to leave a tip.
Anton's was a horrible experience and I do not reccomend this place to anyone.
My friends and I went to Antons for dinner on a Monday night. Myself as well as a few others had been there a few times, so we knew the drill with the line etc. It had been about a year since I'd been there myself and to be honest, the food is no better than your average pasta place, which you can find up and down that area of Hastings.
The last time I was there was for a birthday party and I swear, we were able to make a reservation because of the large number of people in our group. They no longer take reservations for large groups. We had 6 people and a small child and we were not allowed to be seated until the entire group was present, which made for a cranky child especially since it was pouring rain that day.
Everyone tried everyone else's pasta and it was all pretty basic. At the end of the evening, despite the fact that there was a large number of people waiting to be seated, it took the waitress 15 to 20 minutes to bring us our bill.
All in all, the experience wasn't that enjoyable and I remember now why it took me a year to go back there. I don't suggest taking small children to this restaurant either unless it's the middle of the day and sunny. If you do end up going and you get tired of the wait, Bombay Bhel, the Indian restaurant right next door is phenomenal and you don't have to line up to get in.
After receiving recommendations from a couple friends, bf and I decide to check it out. Got there at 5 on a Sunday night and there was already a line. The waiting area inside the place is pretty small, so most people waiting for a table stand outside. I didn't keep track of how long we were waiting but it was at least 10-20 minutes.
First impression: kind of cramped, so not a lot of walking room.. I guess that's to maximize number of tables. Server was a nice, earnest guy who checked up on us during the meal and kept the water filled up without being asked. We ordered the calamari with marinara. Calamari is not breaded or coated with anything (not saying it's bad, just not what we expected) and the tomato sauce was pretty good (tangy and a little spicy). Bf is a big calamari fan and liked it.
Entrees: conchiglione and manicotti Anton's (both are baked dishes). I was disappointed in my pasta because all I could taste from my manicotti was tomato sauce, the cheese that covered it, and the manicotti itself (but not the chicken and spinach filling). For the conchiglione, I detected some kind of seafoody taste but nothing distinct. Basically both dishes were edible but not particularly tasty.
Bill came out to a little more than $40. All I could think was that for an extra $10 I could have had an amazing dinner at my favourite Italian place a little further down Hastings. I don't think the food is worth the wait, nor does it live up to the hype. Famous for its monstrous portions, but personally I'd rather have 1 great meal than 1 mediocre meal that will last me for 2 days.
After reading reviews here I decided to get some for lunch. It was great. Decently portioned with two pieces of bread for only $12.50 (I got seafood-mushroom w/ white sauce).
Excellent pasta, large portions, at a very reasonable price! Will return to dine in.
The woman on the phone was rude, but the man I spoke to later was very nice and polite. I think he was the manager.
The food was very good...good bang for the buck. However, we had a party of five and waited for over an hour to be seated while several parties of two in which were there much after us were seated before us. We asked for some bread with our meal (which is supposed to come with the meal) and the server told us they had ran out. We then asked if they could substitute with another type of bread and she said no. The manager was summoned over and he was very impersonal and would not compromise. He just said they ran out and he had the 'too bad' attitude. The service from the waitress was okay, but the PR from the manager was awful. Based on the food, we would return, but based on the mangers attitude we would not.
All I can say about this place is that the portions are large.
Pasta is pasta. Large portions put me off and I don't like leftover pasta. When I was asked if I wanted to take the leftovers home I was greeted with a shocked look. It wasn't good enough to eat a second time or a first time. Our fellow patrons were happy and boisterous which was nice. Waitresses very good. Can't figure out why anyone would line up for the food, tho. If you are on a strict budget and need to have the leftovers for 2 nights then this place is it.
Food was good.. Me and 3 friends were tired after going kayaking. Thought we'd get fattened up after a hard day's work. Anton's was ok overall. Known for large portions at very resonable prices. I liked the service there... our waitress was ok. When i ask her for more bread she must have forgotten but it came like while we were half finished our entree.
So ... we have eaten here LOTS of times and love it. We are huge fans of the fusili ala tuscana! They have massive portions and GREAT food!
Dont plan on eating all your food ... and start off with the pesto and foccia.
Its a great place to bring family and friends ... especially those visiting. The fresh pasta is really the secret to this place (trust me ... we went once when their pasta chef had cut their hand and they bought store stuff and it was disgusting!).
My second review of Anton's; certainly our favorite pasta place and one of our favorite restaurants. We always go out to eat on family birthdays to the birthday girl/boy's choice. Anton's is a common choice. We went last night for my son's birthday, great service, good food (if perhaps a bit past al dente), and the huge portions and good value we all love Anton's for. My beef? This is the third time I've been to the restaurant since they removed the option for debit card payment. Dumb ole me is surprised everytime. I hate using credit cards and never have that much cash so debit, to me, is the option of choice. I know Anton's had fraud problems and can see why they are leery but surely there are some security measures that could be taken to reduce or aleviate their concerns. I will, sadly, not be returning as I believe very much in voting with my wallet. Still I know I won't be missed given the large lineups. Too bad for me.
I've been to Antons several times, and I've been lucky I didn't have to wait long for a table. They have a great assortment of pastas and they come in HUGE portions! An average eater will only touch 1/3 of the plate and a Hungry Hippo will only eat 1/2! The taste of their pastas are average and might get boring cuz its such a huge portion.
Their service is also not bad for being so busy! Our waitresses always came by to refill drinks or ask us if we needed anything! But you can see they are working really hard! :D
The only downside of this place is they use WAYYY too much styrofoam containers as EVERY diner requires a doggy bag for their leftover pasta!! :)
The place seems pretty pack during weekend, so i decided to check this place out.
The calamari was pretty good, but the pasta was not as great as i thought it would be, but the proportion of it was pretty big. The service was TERRIBLE. discriminate you if you don't seem to be like some old business/ retire people. Just because I don't look old, doesn't mean they could ignore you and not service you. Although the server saw you waiting for tables, and the fact that there are tables, they just ignore you.(this was on a week day / afternoon.. quite quiet.)
After been waiting for 20 + minutes, finally a server that looks unsatisfied serves us to a table.
And right away she ask what we wanted. COME ON. I just sat down. So she left to get us water. After another 20 minute of waiting for this lady or any server to come back, I still get this rude attitude, but compare to different customer, they'll act differently. The food was not that great. The service was poor. Parking is difficult. And oh yeah. you can't even just order one item and enjoy it on a sunny day.. even when there's no customer.
Spaghetti Factory is wayyy better. Go there instead.
My wife and I went here tonight and both of us being Italian we were disgusted. The pasta tasted like Chef Boyardee. Sure the prices and portions are great but the food is crap. My grandma would be turning in her grave if she knew I ate at this restaurant.
The ambiance is casual and clean and the service is very good.
This was the first and only time I have eaten here and I will never forget about 12 years ago visiting a friend who lived across the lane from the restauarant and peeking in the back door to see large cannisters of premade pasta sauce. At least they are pretty consistent........
I love going to this restaurant for the large portions and really great prices. Its very relaxed and I really enjoy watching the chefs at work. There is usually a line up outside but its well worth the wait, and the large portions make great lunches for the next day at work! Out of all the pasta restaurants I have visited, Antons is the one I always want to go to when the thought of pasta comes up. Every friend or family I bring have all enjoyed the food and atmosphere as well.
