Best House Bread!!

Submitted Thursday, February 23, 2006 - 3:05pm [Dine in]

I've been to Anducci's many times and every time, I have nothing bad to say about them. Always consistant great food. Portion sizes are quite big and I can never finish by myself. A great place to go with friends and share your meals. I say the best thing about Anducci's would be the house bread they serve. It's a warm foccacia drizzles with balsamic vinegar and sprinkled with parmesan. To die for. Remember to bring your Entertainment Book coupons!!

A friend and I stopped in on the way home. Due to previous reviews, seemed like a good place to eat. I had a ceasar drink (ok) and my friend had a glass of house red (no complaints). We shared the larger caesar salad 8.00 and it was fine. The homemade bread with balsamic vinegar was very nice. I ordered the Pollo Mista in a cream sauce 17.00 and I liked it and took more than 1/2 of it home for lunch the next day. My friend ordered the Jambalaya Risotto 16.00 and she didn't like it much.

We were never asked how our meals were as it was very hard to find our female server. She didn't seem very interested in her job anyhow... I tasted my friend's risotto and it tasted like tomato paste added to mushy rice (way overcooked!). When the same server asked if she was finished...I just had to mention that my friend didn't really care for it (friend is too nice to speak up). The server did ask if she wanted anything else, but again, didn't really seem to care either way. She declined.

We had to flag down another server as ours went missing again to pay our bill. Nothing was adjusted on the bill to compensate for the mushy risotto...even a couple of dollars off would have shown some effort....

Probably won't be back. The portions are very good though, but if you don't like your meal, who cares?

Not As Bad As The Other One

At this branch, they gave my brother and I free Anducci's T-shirts. The waitress was very nice and served the food with a great big smile. Personally, I like the bruschetta. It is a very tasty appetizer. Overall, good experience at this branch and would come back if in the area, but I wouldn't go out of my way to dine here.

Waited an hour just to place an order..
By teddyandturtle of Vancouver - Kingsway (84 Reviews)

Was here last night for my boyfriend's birthday dinner. He gave warnings that since they've changed management the past year, the food has definitely gone downhill.

Warning was right. As soon as we entered, I found the place in need of a bit of renovations. The drip looking paint looks kind of odd, the pictures don't have a theme to it, the music doesn't suit the mood, and it's too dimly lit.

The waitress was not happy to work there, took an hour for her to come and take out orders. And then another while for our food. The wait for our food made sense since we had 18 people with us, but an hour just to get our orders? No smiles and a bit of snooty attitude too. They served one calamari dish at our table and one person was eating that for half an hour or something. And the drinks were long done before the food came.

Since the place was known for pasta dishes, that's what most people got. I didn't hear any compliments really. Other than the fact that it's pretty generously portioned. The presentation is definitely lacking. All dishes were served in what looked like a big bowl. I heard complaints about the pizza, think it was the one with Italian sausage. The people who ordered it are also fellow food bloggers, and said that the pizza tasted a lot like a big piece of pita bread (looked like it too) with absolute minimal sauce and sprinkling of meat on top. I ordered the spinach and cheese cannelloni, which looked okay, but was very very bland. No amount of pepper or extra cheese would have saved it. Even though the whole thing was swimming in sauce it still tasted bland.

For 16 dollars or so per pasta dish, it wasn't worth it. The only thing Anducci's got right was the portion size. On top of that, they already did an automatic charge for service fee. This was necessary for a group as big as ours, but astounding that it was over 20% in tips or something. Most places charge about 15% which I am happy to give (or even more depending on food and service) but 20% for food like that and minimal service for a 21st birthday party.. I will definitely not be recommending this restaurant nor will I be returning. It may have scarred me from trying the other Anducci's locations too.

Filling Pasta
By MBAK of Vancouver (80 Reviews)
Submitted Monday, December 15, 2008 - 2:52pm [Dine in]

I went here w/my fiance this past weekend for some hearty pasta and we definitely got what we asked for with Anducci's.

Food: Firstly, the portions are HUGE. Just as big (if not bigger) than Anton's, which is great, if that's your thing. The taste? Well, I found my dish (The Laverne & Shirley) to be quite bland. My fiance had a pasta with smoked salmon, capers and asparagus which he enjoyed (but felt was really REALLY rich). I also enjoyed a glass of their sangria which was large as well.

Service: Our waitress was very polite and very quick. She got us everything we asked for within a short period of time.

Value: Great! The portions were huge. I took home 2/3's of my dinner which served great as a leftover lunch & dinner the following day.

Ambiance: A little "off". It's rather dark inside and it certainly didn't help that our table was super wobbly. Everytime we raised an arm the whole table shook!

I'd recommend this place to anyone who wants to go to Anton's but doesn't want to wait in a line for 30 min.

average pasta, good bread

I usually go to anducci's when I have a craving for their bread, which I find pretty good, as mentioned in previous reviews focaccia bread with a vinagrette.

Portions are quite large like many pasta places. Never had a problem with the pasta itself, but the sauces don't seem very flavorful and seems a little watered down.

Service was decent with the waitress checking in a few times during my meal to fill up my water and see how I was doing. The interior of the restaurant is clean and nice as well.

Our Favorite Date Night Spot
By STARR_surrey of Surrey , B.C. (1 Review)
Submitted Thursday, November 25, 2010 - 2:39pm [Dine in]

My friends and I have been going here for years, and then I introduced my husband to Anduccis. Its now his favourite "Date Night" restaurant. While we've tasted most things on the menu (old menu and new) our absolute favourite is the "Lavern and Shirley" on Gnocchi. Its spectacular, especially with a pitcher of their great Sangria. The portion size is always enough for dinner and lunch the next day (at least).
The service is usually good, although I have had a server who was less than OK. When I mentioned my dissatisfaction with the service I was given a percentage off of my meal.
Anduccis will continue to have my patronage =)

Not the Anducci's it used to be
By Cynna of Burnaby (1 Review)
Submitted Saturday, June 12, 2010 - 9:37pm [Dine in]

We visited the local Anducci's today just to try it out again. It's been a few years since I've been and I remembered it being pretty good.

I suppose the lack of filled tables should have been a clue to us, I just figured it was a quiet night. We sat outside on the patio, and one of the first things I noticed was dandilion weeds growing out of the concrete in the middle of the set up - as though they'd not even opened the patio yet.

Waitress was nice, but seemed a bit distant, perhaps bored? She took our orders, brought some decent bread (plain foccacia drizzled with balsamic vinegar and oil), then our drinks and (surprisingly fast) our entrees.

Husband had a seafood pasta that was bland, the sauce very watered down tasting. I had a spinach cannelloni in a creamy tomato sauce. The sauce tasted like tomato paste (creamy? not.) and the cannelloni filling was very bland. What shocked me though was the way it was covered in dried herbs - oregano I think. I can understand using dried herbs *in* a sauce. But liberally sprinkling something like that over top of melted cheese and sauce was beyond amaturish - gave it a sandy texture and didn't add any flavour at all. If this was a greasy spoon I might understand, but for a $16 pasta? No way. Fresh herbs are a must, especially for finishing off a plate.

Had I poured a commercial pasta sauce over plain pasta I would have experienced more flavour. My quiet balcony would have given me more ambiance. Even the wine tasted bland, and after seeing what they did with their entrees we weren't remotely interested in trying a dessert. It didn't seem worth it to offer any complaints, we just wanted to leave. Waitress must be used to that, as she didn't even bring a dessert menu or ask if we wanted anything else. Seems like it must be a depressing place to work in knowing how bad the food you're serving is.

Hopefully something changes to bring Anducci's back to what it used to be. Until I see a huge change in the reviews, I won't be returning.

On the decline
By Bonka of Vancouver (461 Reviews)
Submitted Tuesday, October 21, 2008 - 4:04am [Dine in]

Like the other Anducci's I've been to this one is on the decline, and declining fast too compared to the others.

The wierdo purple lighting and christmas lights year round feel misplaced. On the inside this one also has the tired ambience aura around it. Feels somber even when there are customers at the tables. Maybe the incredibly dim lighting takes the edge off the diners too much.

Anducci's is still a place for volume - large portions with consistently mediocre food, just like the other locations. On several ocassions we shared one plate between 3 friends. I can't help but think this is how they want you to distinguish their dishes with other restaurants. A bit of an acquired taste if you like your pasta sauce to be "sweeter". Strangely enough other tomato based sauce dishes taste fine. Either way it doesn't taste fresh and it doesn't taste like it came out of a can either.

Service is also consistently slower and kitchen speed can be molasses on certain nights. Servers are nice enough but not much they can do to hurry up the food coming out.

Considering the inflating prices it's still good value for abundance but it's difficult to keep coming here unless you're in the area.

A group of six friends and I dropped by Anducci's for a reunion of sorts. We did not have a reservation, but were promptly seated and attended to.

While I do commend them for being timely with their service, fare and water service, I have to say that the kitchen needs some work. My meat tondi with meat sauce was grossly underdone - the pasta on some of the filled morsels were slightly white. However, the drinks were good value (sangrias and caesars, ole.) and everyone else seemed to appreciate their food.

I do believe that I can do a better job of making pasta at home, or enjoy better food and better ambiance at Amorosa nearby.

Have been to Anducci's on a several occasions and the food has been good but not great. I don't understand the volume that goes through this location but that's great for business. This place is packed and more so now with the closing of Mike Friday's pasta place up the road a couple years ago.

The food itself is good but would not bring me back due to the line-ups - I think it's ridiculous to wait in line for food that is being paid for.

My family went to Anducci's for my daughter's birthday and it was great. The food was tasty and the portions huge. Our server was attentive and polite, very nice girl. The prices were acceptable. We were seated within 5 minutes. the decor was nice and the restaurant was very clean. The bread was the best. I will surely return.

I have frequented Anduccis many times in the past 10 years. Went there recently, probably about 6 weeks ago with my partner Hargow. He had the veal with pasta. I had some pasta dish, not even sure which one I had. It was alright.

They used to be better and sometimes are still really good. Certain pasta dishes stand out and others are just average. The Laverne and Shirley is an outstanding one and is always good. So is the Carnivore King (my younger son's fav.)

A few years ago they were always consistently really good. Don't know what happened. They are of course, famous for their enormous portions and I would prefer less volume and better taste.

This is still the best Anduccis in comparison to the one in Coquitlam. I have dined at that one once or twice and wouldn't care to return. My older son went to the one on Hastings and said it was terrible.

Still will continue to go as it is close to home and generally the food is good.

Better value of course, when I have a coupon as they used to have them in the Entertainment book and for a while had 2 for 1 coupons in the Metro paper.

I see from their website today that the menu has been changed somewhat so hopefully the old Anduccis is back. Would be really nice if that were so.

We've dined here many times in the past and it's usually pretty consistent. Large portions are always consistent but the quailty fluctuates up and down. Some days are definitly better than others. A good night is a pleasant meal of flavourful pasta. A not so good night? Mediocre pasta with leftovers I tweak at home the next day. The bread is always spectacular and we love it. We always order extra and it's well worth the couple of bucks. We probably will come back again.... it's a decent place to grab a bite with friends. Besides,... it's not too rough on the budget.

The thing that stood out most about this place was the lethally good focaccia bread sprinkled with vinagrette. The best house bread I've ever had. The pasta was ok, but nothing spectacular. In fact, the bread overshadowed everything else. I think I ate more bread than pasta. If you do a take-out order, make sure you ask for extra focaccia bread.

What has happened to Cameron Road Anducchis the past year?
By ladyada of Victoria (2 Reviews)
Submitted Monday, August 17, 2009 - 10:22am [Dine in]

We have always gone to Anducchis. for at least five years.Taken family members there from out of town etc,,,,not anymore!
The last year we have not been so often.
First we sat through the renovating process while we ate which is still ongoing. The ugly cheap grey mortar on the walls that can snag your clothing was that worth it?The atmosphere now,,are you kidding me?
The staff has always been fantastic why would you change that?
Now the staff has changed ..by the way the new manager not impressed, they are non caring,,short skirts, young, just a complete change.Nothing wrong with young... just not good waitresses.
Where is Tessa,,one of the best waitresses we ever came across?
Are you trying to be Trendy?Well you missed the Loop all around.
The food items have changed ,,smaller portions,,the list goes on.
We live close by and went often,,now we think twice before going which i not too often anymore,
For all the effort you put into it this year we simply wonder why .Why did you change something that worked so well beforehand?

OMG, My Food Came From A Bucket!!!
By yummyyum of richmond (13 Reviews)
Submitted Monday, August 4, 2008 - 11:27pm [Dine in]

Sounds like the beginning of a horror story doesn't it. My food came from a bucket! I will start by saying I asked for a dish that was $16.95 and I asked for a different noodle type and instead of parm sauce I asked for Dill sauce. They charged me $22 for this pasta! The sauce was terrible. It didn't taste like dill at all. When I finally asked for more dill, the waitress had to explain to me that the sauce is made off site and that the chefs in the kitchen didn't have any dill to give me. So I took my bland ass pasta home and it is going to rot in the fridge! The waitress was kind enough to take $5 off my bill for the crappy pasta, which brought the total cost of the pasta down to the original price without my minor substitutions. This night started with a trip to Anton's on Hastings and ended up badly at Anducci's!!!! NEVER EVER AGAIN!!! If I wanted to have pasta sauce from a bucket, I would go and get the classico pasta sauce @ safeway two blocks away.

Submitted Friday, August 22, 2008 - 12:00pm [Dine in]

We had a group of 8 (and later 10) make last minute reservations at the restaurant, which accomodated us somewhat well. We had asked the server to pull up another two chairs which she did not do until we had the two guests show up. The ambiance of the restaurant was all right.

The reason I give this restaurant such a poor rating is its service and its ability provide decent service. It seems as if they were rather understaffed. I ordered a pot of water with lemon and was told by the server that the kitchen had 'run out' of lemon and she would bring the lemon later. She never did bring back the lemon. My cup for the hot water was given to me with some unknown dried food stuck on it (pretty gross) and when I requested a *new* cup, I was given back the same cup that had just been washed out. Ugh.

The biggest problem that I have with the restaurant is the fact that my allergy concerns were completely ignored. I had asked the server to check with the kitchen regarding my order and whether it had the substance that I was allergic to in it. Again, she never did get back to me on that... and I'll never eat there again because as it turns out, the food did have the substance that I am allergic to in it as I had a reaction later on that night. Never again!
