Never again - crappy food and value
By danashih of Metrotown Burnaby (2 Reviews)
Submitted Thursday, July 21, 2011 - 9:54am [Dine in]

I used to go to Anducci's by Lougheed, so this time I bought a LivingSocial coupon 50% off for 4, thinking that it's a good deal. It's supposed to be a three course meal, but more like a joke. The 4 of us shared one plate of ceasar salad for first course. The second course is sharing one plate of three small portions of pastas (yes 3 small portions, not even 4 even though there were 4 of us).

Even though it was advertised 50% off, the value is really what the coupon is (or even less). If they cannot pull off a discount, then they shouldn't. The service was REALLY slow. And the pasta wasn't very good. It was overcooked and sloppy. I have bought many restaurant coupons, and this is by far the worst. They gave you exactly what the coupon costs by giving you small portions and crappy food - tacky and misleading. I was so pissed and hungry throughout the meal, and will never go to Anducci's again.
Thank you for driving away old customers!

Good Food

Went here for dinner. I was surpised as the restaurant was not very busy on a saturday night. They have some tv screens and the hockey game was good. My friend and i ordered pasta and they were both good except my partner did not like her pasta. This was with some pesto and garlic sauce with chicken. I ordered the lasagna and it was good with lots of meat sauce. The bread was good but they had poured too much balsmic on the plate so the bread had absorbed this. Prices were very reasonable and i would go back and try their pizza. If i am in the neighborhood again then i will try them again. The server was excellent and their coffee was excellent. We were too full so did not try their dessert. Appy looked good but did not try.

good if you like eating oil

I ordered a pasta dish and when completing it, there was a layer of oil about 2cm thick at the bottom of my dish. The ambiance wasn't bad, it had that romantic touch, yet not quite. Not really worth going back to if I were given the option to. The price wasn't the best either. It could've been cheaper since all they are giving you is pasta and oil.

Disrespectful

I've come here a couple of times mostly during lunch with friends and the food has been consistently good. I particularly like the complementary foccia bread and vinegar that they serve as an appetizer.

However the last time I had gone was on a Friday night and the restaurant was busy. I went to the hostess to tell her I have a party of 6 and she tells me that it will be about a 10 minute wait, which is fine and we were willing to wait for a table. Right after our conversation another guy speaks to the hostess and asks for a table for 6. She tells him it will be a longer wait because I had just come in front of him. The guy proceeds to tell the hostess how he knows a friend (a name she didnt recognize) in the kitchen so they should get a table first. After some confirmation, she turns to me to tell me that 'Oh they actually have a reservation for 6 so I will have to wait for a table after them' which was going to be a 30min wait.

I can't believe she had the nerve to say that to me while I watched their whole interaction unfold. It unprofessional and disrespectful. As this is the kind of bad business that Anduccis runs, my friends and I will never be returning here.

Best of the Anducci's
By Bonka of Vancouver (461 Reviews)
Submitted Tuesday, October 21, 2008 - 3:35am [Dine in]

I've been to Anducci's sparsely over the years when I'm craving pasta and this name comes to mind on a few ocassions. Hard to find a reason to keep coming here really each time I visit.

This location is out of the way for many so it's hardly a surprise each time we come here when most of the seats are empty.

It's dark. Very dark. Music plays in the background but even that doesn't seem to liven up the place. Something about it makes the whole place feel awkward being there.

The servers do their best with the gloomy sight. They do what you'd expect when you eat out.

The highlight is always the fantastic house bread baked with balsamic vinegar. Oddly enough on my last couple of recent visits they didn't give us a loaf and instead it came sliced (and only 2 pieces) with the balsamic on top only.

Lots of choices on their menu but I've usually gotten pasta and the Breaded Veal once. I stick with the tomato based sauces but they're sweeter (almost tangy) and sometimes a bit oily for whatever reason. The pasta tends to be overcooked with the Gnocchi being especially overdone. The veal too was rather uninspiring coming out oily and fairly bland.

Prices seem to have gone up little by little over the years so it's getting harder to find the value in their food even though the portions are quite generous.

I'd say Anducci's would be a better choice compared to Antons but could easily be surpassed by most other pasta places otherwise unless you want to be really filled up.

I need to update my previous review as it leaves too positive a light on this place. I visisted a couple of more times based on my decent first experience.

The service really wasn't that great on further visits. The food was even worse as well. When the place is near empty the ambience really suffers too, but that's still the only good thing going for this place.

At the end of the day when we got a couple of questionable meals and drinks with lackluster service and you end up paying $50, you just can't be happy with it. If the price was half I might return, but there is no way I am coming back for their quality at their prices.

went there a week ago, greeted by a friendly staff and the food is outstanding from appetizers to desert to the coffee. The wine list is not that bad as well. This neighborhood has alot of history and Anducci is becoming a part of it. the place is beautiful and the servers are good looking :) excellent veal parmigiana!

Hey, there's no line-ups here

The best thing about Anducci's? There's no line-up like at Anton's just a few minutes drive along Hastings.

The tomato sauce was too sweet for my liking, the chorizo sausage was burnt, and the chicken under-seasoned. The atmosphere is trendy, with the bar as the showcase, but the tinted windows and the statues out front are tacky. Parking out back is practically non-existent, unmarked and sketchy. The pasta bowls were nice, and the take-out bags were nice looking, but if there's more substance to both the food and front of staff at Antons.

Avoid the Veal.

Went there last night for a big birthday party of 20 or so. The atmosphere inside was nice, a tad dark, but unique wall decor and sports on several TV's was welcoming.

Ordered the Calamari to start, the halibut for myself and the veal for my date. Calamari was decent; different than most as there isn't much batter on them.

My halibut came well cooked and seasoned. Not dry at all. The white wine mushroom risotto that came as a side was very good.

My date's veal was another story. It was dry and tasted like a greasy porkchop. The pasta side was too salty and over-cooked.

The other dishes looked pretty good, so overall the food was decent; save for the veal.

a welcome addition in N.Burnaby

Four of us went for dinner last night, the other couples choice was here. I've never been to an Anducci's and from the mediocre reviews here I was a little worried, but I was craving pasta too! The ambiance in this place is amazing with a great demographic cross section of patrons and a cool hip decor. The food was really good! i was surprised! we had the chicken artichoke chorizo penne ( and they have a whole wheat pasta if you choose, kudos for the healthy option!) and it was well done, and a great value as two of us shared a single huge portion and it was still a lot, coupled with a well done thin crust pizza made for a pleasant dinner. Our friends had a pasta each and took some home, one dish had four HUGE meatballs that were delicious! The servers were young, friendly and mostly efficient and easy on the eyes too! We ended with one of the best tiramisus I've had. the only negative is they have a fancy new coffee machine and it didn't make the americanos quite hot enough. I will defintiely return for the food, ambiance and especially the value! A very welcome addition to the restaurant scene in N.Burnaby

Tried the new Anducci's Restaurant in North Burnaby and although you cannot see in from the street due to dark windows once through the doors what a terrific surprise as the room has a very relaxed lounge upscale sports bar feel . The menu is very extensive and our favourite dish was a shared plate of flaming shrimp that just before arriving at the table was lite and as the dish said it flamed. More than just theatreatics the dish was delicious especially the use of salsa as a dipping base for our bread . the service staff was very young but very enthusiastic and still need a bit of seasoning but the few mistakes were certainly made up in smiles and sincere apologies . the place was packed and also has great screens to watch a variety of sporting events .

my family and I decdied to come back for another party of 10. since the last time we came, they've changed their menus. before you were able to choose between the sizes you wanted for the pasta, small or large. now it is only one size you can choose from but the dish is a WHOLE lot smaller! my dish, the macaroni and cheese, was so greasy. my bf's dish was bland, mushy, very wet pasta. the better i would at least recommend would be the luigi pasta.

the service was alright, she seemed to be just there doing her job.

all in all, its changed alot since our last time there. my family has decided not to come back anymore. which is sad, i think its back to antons..

Underwelming Experience
By foodock of Vancouver (16 Reviews)
Submitted Saturday, December 29, 2007 - 4:35pm [Dine in]

We felt like having a little pasta with lunch and decided to try the Anducci's location on Hastings Street in Burnaby. When we arrived, there was only one other table in the restaurant and we were promptly seated. It was a cold day, so we sat away from the front door, but it appeared that the staff liked using the patio door to come in and out of. This made it cold for customers in bursts and it became very annoying throughout the meal.
My friends ordered coffee to start and it appears that instead of brewing pots of coffee, they used this automated coffee machine that created a very weak blend of coffee. This seemed strange as I did see a regular coffee maker on the other side of the bar.
For our meals, we shared an okay salad to start. It needed a little more in the way of dressing. It also took a little while to get to the table.
Our pasta dishes were a little all over the map. My Linguine Carbonara was okay but the spiciness of the meat overpowered the full taste. The others order pasta's made from whole wheat that was undercooked. When it was sent back, the pasta came back very soggy and lost a lot of flavor.
It seemed that no one was really in charge and the wait staff seemed to like to hide a bit in the back, though they did check back once.
I think that Anducci's may have expanded a little too quickly here as the restaurant felt like it was handled cookie cutter style and we ended up with some crumbs.

Anducci's....more like And-u-shouldn't eat here
By SAYKEL of Burnaby (1 Review)
Submitted Monday, November 24, 2008 - 10:24pm [Dine in]

My boyfriend and I went to Anducci's on a quiet Sunday night, after having been to the original Anducci's near Lougheed Mall a number of times and had enjoyable dinners. However, that wasn't the case for this restaurant.

It was not very busy, so we were seated promptly at a table very close to the other 3 seated tables. That was then of anything happening quickly. After at least 5-10min we were finally approached by our server, meanwhile a table directly behind us had been seated and served drinks by a different server. When we finally ordered our drinks, they took a very long time because the waitress clearly had a lot to chat about with her co-workers who were much more interesting than us.

The table behind us When got our drinks we decided to order. I had the Popeye pizza and my boyfriend had a pizza as well. The table behind us had already got their food. When our pizzas finally arrived we were starving. When asked if we would like parmesan cheese, we both said yes...only to have the serve walk away and not return. Very strange. Tired of waiting, we decided to dig in...little did we know there would be so much flour on the pizza crusts that we would need a gallon of water to swallow each bite. Literally, way way to dry.....and the spinach on my pizza was completely dried out and crispy. Eww. I couldn't swallow anymore because my mouth was too flourly, so I took the rest to go, knowing I probably wouldn't stomach it later, and I didn't.

Over all, terrible food and service which is unfortunate because I've had much better from Anducci's at Lougheed and was hoping that this one would be the same.

As someone who sometimes visit this site to see opinions of others (which is always a hit and miss), I felt so strongly about leaving my opinion here that I HAD to sign up. Now that I have, I realize I don't really need to repeat myself since most of the reviews pretty much sum up this place. As a new reviewer, I will follow/answer Dinehere's suggestions on how to write a review (also hope that my angry and disappointment at my dining experience here do not seem too passionate that they delete my post! hah!):

* Did you enjoy your experience?

NOT REALLY, NO.

* Would you return and/or recommend this restaurant to others?

HELLZ NO

* What specifically did you like/dislike about the food, service and ambiance? Make sure you justify your ratings in the review text.

ALL the negatives mentioned by everyone else, the young, untrained "just pretty but thats about it staff", a few of the pasta dishes tasted the same really, too dark a place, ditto the coldness, and slow slow slow.

* Was it worth the money? Make sure you justify the value rating in the review text.

NO I did not think it was worth the money of our dinner host who graciously bought it for us as he just happily graduated uni. We ALL thought it was pretty bad service with food being "decent/-ish okay". I generally like most foods but there is a huge different between ok and DELICIOUS. The flavours were mild and not very strong. But just in general the service was pretty bad it pretty much scarred our party of 10!

You'd have to be under the influence of something to come back to this place :) sorry but thats the truth!

Good Pasta They Have Gluten Free!
By dummeow of Vancouver (4 Reviews)
Submitted Sunday, January 3, 2010 - 7:43pm [Dine in]

For a bit of a health freak like myself, this place is great cause they have gluten free pasta. It tastes pretty good and I ordered it with the white wine olive oil sauce.

The ambiance was alright, wish the place was bigger and had more seating/tables.

The pasta portions were quite a good size for a large. I had left overs for the next day.

The service was good even though we went on a busy night (New Year's Eve). The waitresses made sure we were taken care of, occasionally came over to check up on us, refills, etc. We were seated within 5 minutes. Although it was probably easier for us to get seats since it's table for two.

Food came a little bit later but not that late considering it's a busy time of year.

I would go back to try another sauce to go with my gluten free pasta!

Overall - Mediocre

The place is nice - not crowded and maybe for a reason. Service was good and the staff friendly and helpful. However, the food is lacking. The pasta was too soft as in over cooked but this may be due to it being made on the premises. The sauce wasn't the greatest but better than Antons which has bland sauces and undercooked pasta. If I were to return to Anducci's the pasta should separate on the plate - not stick together in a glob. Based on this experience, I would not recommend it to anyone. If you do go there to try for yourself, don't order the large portions unless you're very very hungry and have a large stomach.

...and you don't care that you are in a resaurant that thinks it's a sports bar then by all means drop by. Unfortunately for this Anducci's there are a dozen italian places in the neighborhood that can beat them in one way or another. Taste, style, ambience, service, most of a the heights Italian are better than this. Service was average. Some of the meals with our group were great, a couple were average and one was downright horrible. Pretty much what other reviews say but all in one vist. The ambience leaves something to be desired and the noise with the big screens tv's was irritating. Certainly not a place I would frequent again, and I, like others live in the area and would like to be impressed

I've been to Anducci's by Lougheed a number of times, and though it's hit and miss, it encouraged me and my other half to visit the Hastings location last Thursday night.

When dinner arrived, mine came out wrong (ordered a tomato cream sauce, and it came out with a white wine sauce). I asked about the sauce, and the waitress said 'The kitchen screwed up - i'll get them to make another', which they did while I sat there mealless and my other half started in... When it did arrive, as with both meals, the pasta was overcooked and a mushy mess.

I asked for a dirty martini, which should *not* be made with raspberry vodka (raspbery + olive = ugh). I mentioned this to the waitress and she went to the bartender who made another, which again had raspberry in it.

When we got the bill and the waitress had overcharged for the (incorrectly made) martinis. She sighed when I menitoned it, and looked put out to have to correct the bill.

No discount or apology for having to wait 10 minutes for my dinner while my other half ate, no discount or apology on the martinis with unwanted raspberry, and attitude when I pointed out that the bill was incorrect!

You can tell this place isn't a serious restaurant, as the kitchen, floor and bar are all staffed by 19 year olds who seem more interested in giving their friends a place to hang out than focusing on taste and service.

Won't be back to the Anducci's 6011 E Hastings
By Triever of Burnaby (8 Reviews)
Submitted Sunday, July 1, 2007 - 1:52pm [Dine in]

First visit, we were told wait was fifteen minutes when in actual fact the two of us waited for over an hour. When we were finally seated, we realized others arriving after us had been offered the opportunity to sit at the bar stools, order their meals, and even be moved to tables before us.

When we received our credit card bill in the mail we discovered the restaurant had charged us three times for our bill. We had to phone the credit card company, who had to launch an investigation on the restaurant in order to reverse the extra charges.

Second visit, the four of us arrived early and were seated right away.
Two of our orders were screwed up, wrong sauces on our pasta. This is even though we were very clear on our orders and the server repeated them. We had to wait for replacement meals and the manager said don't worry we'll take care of this.

There were no deductions on our bill.

Of note, our primavera dishes were severely lacking in vegetables. They consisted of a plate of overcooked pasta with little sauce and barren in the vegetable department.

The chicken in the pasta tasted horrible, like it had been cooked in a pot with sausage, and it was dry and barely edible.

Be warned, there are no sound buffers in this restaurant. It is a wide open floor with tables and chairs. If the restaurant is anywhere near capacity expect to not hear each other and to go home with ringing ears and possible hearing damage. I'm serious.

They hire servers who are young girls that look good in tight black dresses. If you want eye candy only, then this is your restaurant.

Their pasta prices are also excessive. $15.95 to $17.95 or more for a plate of overcooked pasta with very little sauce or extras that you are paying a premium for.
