Amorosa Pasta House is an Italian eatery in Burnaby that offers a plethora of choices for their patrons. The menu allows for mix and match pasta dishes, choose your own sauce, pasta and fixings.
The calamari is always fresh and light, the batter isn't heavy or oily and the tzatsiki is delicious. This makes for a great appy followed by a hot chicken caesar salad. When you leave you are full but, not too full and the food digests well. The salad isn't greasy at all--it certainly tastes sinful.
We had a large (17) party in there last night, and while the food was okay, and just okay, the service was simply terrible.
Appys came over the course of 27 minutes, entree's rather than being timed as any decent kitchen would do to arrive within a reasonable time together came out in bits and pieces and at least three entree's were wrong. How do you mix up a basic tomato sauce with an alfredo????
The excuse offered, the single server we had for such a large table was writing exams this week.
I have been in this business for 30+ years and a very few experiences were this bad.
Never again folks. Either hire a chef who can cook, and servers who can do the job or prepare to hang up a for sale sign, because this was downright emarrassing.
This place is a regular. always seems busy and needs reservations for the weekends or you will wait forever. wrth the drive..... .... The servings are quite extensive with loads of sauce. lots of choices. typical western/BC pasta house.
Service is good and has a neighborhood feel. Nice wine, flavours are rich.
nothing more than a great little neighborhood pasta house. obviously wih the large orders you more than enough to take home for tomorrows lunch.
We will definitly return and continue to work our way through the menu. Quite nice with lots of choices
First, inexpensive. Who really wants to pay a million bucks for a plate of noodles, anyway? Okay, that said, this place provides very generous quantities with a delicious sauces.
The meat-balls leave a bit to be desired (that's my opinion anyway cause i LOVE meat-balls). But I order 'em anyway because they're ok. I find them a bit 'hard' and there's 'something' about the taste... maybe a lack of garlic and too much basil?? I don't know... but they're not my faves.
However the pasta is ALWAYS cooked perfectly. The meat sauce is bread-dunking good and EVERYone i have EVER taken there LOVES the place too.
Service? No problem. They are usually VERY busy with a line-up on weekends. Worth the wait, btw. Ambience? It looks like a litle Italian restaurant... clean facilities, etc. Parking can be a bit tough but it's available on the street and i believe they have a parking area in the back down a narrow alley.
I am not a wine-drinker but from folks I go with, their comments are that the house is fine and extreeeeemely reasonable as well.
Well worth the visit and if you go, you'll be back
We've never had a bad experience with both take out and dine-in. The food is always good, and their portions are huge!! It's a small place, a little cramped, but still nice. They are always busy so be sure to make a reservation (even if it's just for 2). Service is friendly but sometimes slow due to volume... but we still love it. One of our favorite dishes is linguine with genovese sauce (chicken, spinach, mushrooms and sundried tomatoes in a tomato sauce) .. yummy! :) and super afforadable.
solid choice to eat at for both dining in and take out. generous portions with pasta ingredients so fresh you'd swear they made the sauce just when you ordered it. the service is courteous and efficient and even accomodates personal requests such as such and such dish with a spicy sauce instead of a cream sauce. can't go wrong with $10 for their specialty pastas and $9 to create your own (with 3 toppings!).
After hearing of the reviews, I brought a small group to check this place out. I had linguini with scallops and mushrooms in a cream sauce, and I must say that it was quite good. Portions were large as well - a small was more than most of my friends could finish - and all for under $10!
However, a few of my friends who had the light cream sauce felt that it was too light - not flavourful enough. Otherwise, it was an enjoyable experience. Reservations are a must though, as we saw lots of people dropping in throughout the night and having to wait a while for a table.
They have a good selection of food, you can mix and match the sauce and the pasta. Their food is very good and the price and the portion is reasonable. The last time I went there I ordered spagehetti with meatballs, sausage and bacon in marinara sauce...hmm yumm
For a longest time this use to be the best little pasta place around...what happened? My daughter and grandkids live close by so we use to come often but, lately somebody is getting sloppy. The pasta sauces are watery and losing its taste and I actually don't even wanna go on cause I still want to give them a chance, please read this reviews and bring the good stuff BACK.
One word - LASAGNA. This lasagna is the best I have ever had. Their meat sauce has some type of cream in it (hey, I didn't say it's the healthiest), just enough to give it a unique flavour. I have taken three groups of people to this place, all very different eaters, and they all love it. The ambience is more of a local restaurant, which is too bad since it isn't romantic, but it will blow your mind. You HAVE to try this place (but don't tell too many people!).
I've been living in that area over 15 years, never got chance to visit it till yesterday. Amazing foods and services. I will bring my friends and family to there again for sure.
I really like those fresh tastes on the sauces and pastas. And the dishes are HOT while delivery to your table unlike other restaurants.
I've been going here for almost 10 years, since I lived a block away and was a student. It has done nothing but improve over time, and yet retains the pricing and portion sizes that attracted me to it to begin. A large size (formerly full size) will feed me dinner and 2 lunches easily!
Take note that they sell their sauces for take home - and they freeze wonderfully. If you have a favorite, take it home! Their Mushroom and scallop is the current favorite, but I go through phases, and these guys have it all.
I compliment the staff on the service too - while they're usually busy, if not packed, we're always greeted with a smile and a second or two of friendly chat. We've been every week or two for the last 2 years, and don't even need to order anymore, as our foccacia and drinks are delivered once they know we're coming. You can't get much better than that!!
