This location is my favourite place to hangout with friends, doing homework, or for some much needed me time! The coffee is fabulous, the service is fantastic and the atmosphere is amazing. They are even showcasing local musical talent this summer every Wednesday night from 7-9; what a great CHEAP way so spend a night out with friends or the family!
Great coffee, great service, great atmosphere!
This store consistently meets or exceeds my expectations!!!! The people who work there are SO friendly! This is one Starbucks I can NOT drive by without stopping in to say hi to the best baristas!!! The store manager there is AWESOME!!! The store is always tidy! I visit this store almost everyday! My Cinnamon Dolce Latte is always made PERFECTLTY!
I went to Cheers the other night for dinner and drinks and the menu was TOTALLY different from the last time i was there. I had the new Rodeo Burger and it was deeeeelicious. I also had a caesar and it was the perfect amount of spicy. I thought it was really reasonably piced too.
I have never had a problem with customer service here. The server we had was really sweet and was always at our table, refilling our pops before they were even empty. The bartender was really sociable and kept coming around to all the tables and chatting with customers. We felt totally welcome even though we weren't regulars like some of the people there.
We even asked if we could have one of the TVs changed to the show we wanted to watch and the bartender did it for us, and didn't make us feel like it was a hassle at all.
The canucks game started later and the place was sooo lively. we even got victory shots when we won. We had a great time and we'll definitely be going back.
This place has solid sushi in Abbotsford. The rolls are good, especially some of the specialty rolls. The Washington roll is delicious. The prices are about the same as the rest of the places in Abbotsford.
My complaint is with the service. The last time I ordered take-out, the quoted 30 minutes. I showed up after 40 minutes had passed and my order was not yet ready. Well, part of it was. The agedashi tofu sat in a container for over 40 minutes getting cold and soggy. I had to wait an additional 30 minutes for my food. If it took that long, I can't imagine it had been started (except for the tofu) by the time I arrived. And yet... the staff said nothing about this. Rather, they let me stand there for about 30 minutes just waiting. No "it will just be 10 minutes" or even "it will be 30 minutes". I was just ignored and waited.
I finally got my food and my tofu disintegrated. The sauce and tofu were packed together and the 40 minute wait killed it. Tempura was okay, a bit cold. Rolls were fine.
Sorry Nikko. I like you but I'm never returning. Please don't treat your customers so poorly. I felt like I was a burden on the staff there. NEVER AGAIN!
I have been going to Vi-La for at least two years. The have wonderful soups, and combination type plates, salad rolls and more. We have our favourites and pretty much order the same things time and again. It's a family owned business with the daughters as servers most of the time. They know you when you walk in and the food is always consistant - delicious - and fresh. It's what you would call a little hole in the wall - with great food. Try it I know you'll love it.
*** Double check their location before you go because the are moving to a new location in June of 2011
I went to the Abbotsford Wok Box a few weeks ago, and I was happy that they had a lot of vegetarian/vegan options. I have been a dedicated vegetarian for 15 years, and I told the girl serving me very specifically NO MEAT whatsoever. When I got my meal I started eating and I noticed these weird chunks in my bowl! I thought maybe it was tofu or something but I examined it closer and showed my friend. He said it was CHICKEN. I haven't eaten any meat for 15 years, and I unknowingly ate chicken! I had to go to the bathroom and throw up, I was so disgusted!!! I told the girl what happened and she blamed the guy who made the food (unprofessional if you ask me) and they made me a new dish (I wasn't really hungry anymore) and gave me a coupon to use later (whoo hoo). I don't think I will be coming back to use the coupon!
I will never set foot in this restaurant again. I was not happy with our wings and we said something and were made to feel like they were doing us a favor in fixing them. Well in fact they did not fix them. The wings said they were wings with sauce on them and I can tell you we had 3 different sauced wings with no flavor because they had barely any sauce on them. I let head office know that my visit was poor and obviously they could care less as they have never got back to me. So when a restaurant does not care about their customers visit I will never set foot back into that restaurant and will let anyone else know about my terrible experience so they don't go and have a bad experience themselves.
I usually get my sushi from Ebisu, as I find it's some of the better sushi in town and I live right down the street. However, they were closed on a Sunday night so we decided to get takeout from Yummy Sushi. It looked like a nice place, and seemed to do good business, so what could go wrong?
I was incredibly disappointed. It was not poor quality ingredients like at a cheap place, but there is only one word to describe everything we ordered: SWEET! I have never tasted such sweet Japanese food in my life, it was like everything was dipped in sugar. We ordered California and Dynamite rolls. As soon as it entered the mouth there was an overwhelming, cloyingly sweet taste. The texture was not pleasant as the rolls were half-filled with either cucumber or sweet pickle, making it the crunchiest sushi I've ever had. It was not finished/
The beef yaki-soba was disgusting. I'm not exaggerating: after a bite each it went straight in the garbage. It tasted like no yaki soba I've ever had, homemade or from a restaurant. It tasted overwhelmingly of ketchup, worcestershire sauce, and of course, sugar. The one bite left such a disgusting aftertaste I had to brush my teeth.
Vegetable tempura was very good. I'd be amazed if a restaurant screwed that up. They forgot to give our miso soup, even though they charged us for it. We really wanted to like it, but were very disappointed.
It’s ABC and everything you would expect from a family restaurant. A great safe bet to bring the older relatives. Strangely they have one of the best selections of desserts in all of Abbotsford. Have come a couple of times and it’s always busy. Great staff always very friendly. Solid with no surprises
After asking for favorite breakfast places from friends and hearing the De Dutch several times. I’ve tried this for the third and last time. Maybe it’s not the food people are going for is the comic relief and wonderment. I ordered one of the jumbo pancakes that came raw on the top and burnt on the bottom. Clearly this had not been flipped and looked nothing like the dinning companions meal. When I pointed out the mess on my plate I was told that this is how my order is typically prepared. Great laughs were shared until they didn’t remove it from my bill. Much better breakfast options exist.
Not a bad place to go for a Sunday drive and watch the runnings of the airport. The usual pub fare and decent prices. Not a bad place to go with a buddy and grab a beer. Food is what you would expect. I had a good burger, friend ordered a pasta dish. 3 stars fits the bill.
We don't often go to the Keg as we prefer independent restaurants over the chains. I did have a gift certificate that had been given to me and hubby did not feel like driving too far.
We were there early on Friday evening so we only had to wait 10 minutes for a table. Ambiance is typical of Keg restaurants - dimly lit and with a bit of a buzz from patrons enjoying their dinner. Service was okay. Not too bad but nothing extra done by our waiter. There was no feeling that he really enjoyed his job and wanted to see that you had a good dining experience.
We shared an appetizer of the prawns and they were very good. The bread that they served with the prawns was not very good though. It had the texture of a biscuit made with baking powder and was very dry, a really strange choice of bread for an appetizer with garlic butter. We both went with Keg classic dinners. I had the prime rib and my husband had the teriyaki sirloin. The dip for the prime rib was very salty. The food was okay but we can do better at home. I do like the wide selection of wines available by the glass and the choice of a regular size glass or keg size. The keg size is probably the equivalent of 2 glasses of wine. Wine prices are also reasonably priced. For dessert we shared a Billy Miner pie and I had a specialty coffee.
They are not exorbitantly priced but for the quality of food I feel that there is better value out there. I would probably only return if I was given another gift certificate as there are restaurants I enjoy more.
This is the best Japanese restaurant in Abbotsford. I tried a few places in Abbotsford. But my family and my friends first tried here and recommended to me and I LOOOOOved it.
Taste even better than other normal sushi restaurant. Everything was fresh, sushi, sashimi, even hot food was just made, I loved that sweet tasty beef rib!!!!!!!!!!! so Yammmy~~~ and crunch scallop fries.
My only complaint is that I had to wait a little long for my food in the peak lunch time, but I had to understand they are making fresh food.
After trying the Maple Ridge store, I picked up some takeout from the Abbotsford store. Is this company on fire? I think both of these stores just opened this month. I can see why.
Today I had the Singapore cashew noodle box, and 2 kids meals to take home. I got out for under 20 bucks and was full. The kids loved their meals, one was crispy chicken (it's like the overly favourite nuggets, but with actual chicken) and a teriyaki noodle bowl.
Honestly, as a parent that loves food, I don't expect my kids to crave french cheeses, fine wines and unique flavours like I do, but I do expect them to eat well and not just junk and fast food. I was stoked when I saw how much they enjoyed their meal, and partly because it was only 4 bucks per kid. Being successful at feeding them healthy was the bonus.
The staff here were super friendly and genuine, just like the Maple Ridge store, and I always get behind a place when it looks like the staff really enjoy their jobs and are stoked to work there.
Keep up the good work, i'm a hungry guy without the budget to support it, and this place is my new favourite.
The place is decorated in a mixed contemporary theme, I think. As I walked up the stairs to enter the restaurant, I enjoyed the dim lights, homey brown hues, and "trendy" music. The place was packed with people of all stripes enjoying conversations.
Although the staff that showed us to our seats was pleasant, I found that our server was not.
It took a while for our server to show up to take our drinks order, and another while to receive them. We were ready to order, but she excused herself to find a pen she lost. After having watch her walk around the restaurant doing everything but looking for the pen for ten minutes, she returned.
I was appalled that she interrupted a couple of our sentences: "I would like a filet-" "how would you like it?" And the pen really didn't help her. My boyfriend ordered a rare filet mignon, but received it medium. I guess she misheard our order of escargot in mushroom caps, because she gave us escargot with wine an brandy. She never returned to check up on us for the appetizer, so we decided to just eat. It took her a while to return to check up on our entrees, and my boyfriend was hungry, so he just ate that as well. I had the Bavaria Schnitzel, which came with decent potatoes, and tasteful goulash. All the dishes were good nevertheless.
Although I enjoyed the food, and the ambiance was good, service was a huge turn off. Given that there are better restaurants down the street, I won't return.
Original Joe's is part of a restaurant chain. I'd never heard of them before but they've opened in Abbotsford. We were looking for somewhere close to home where we could have a decent meal for a reasonable price. Original Joe's fit the bill perfectly. Abbotsford has a lack of decent restaurants so it was nice to discover OJ's.
They have about 6 or 7 TV's showing different sports programs so if you're looking for a quiet evening this is not the spot. The menu ranges from pizza to hamburgers, pasta and sandwiches to a few entrees such as fish and chips and spareribs. They had a special on pizza for $10.00 when we were there. I opted for the pizza and my husband had the half rack of ribs. The pizza was very good. The toppings were generous and the crust was not heavy and doughy. The ribs came with a choice of 2 sides and were also very good. Wine prices are also reasonable. The total bill for pizza, 1/2 rack of spareribs and 1/2 litre of wine with tip was $55.00. Fair value for the quality of food.
The service was decent. Our server was pleasant enough but she made a huge mistake. After we finished eating we looked at the dessert menu and decided that we would like to have dessert. We had not seen our waitress for awhile and my husband finally caught her eye. She did not come to the table to see what we wanted. My husband said that if she bought the bill we would just skip dessert and leave. Sure enough rather than asking if we wanted anything else she just presented the bill, hence no dessert for us, less money for the restaurant and less of a tip for our server.
It was a good evening out however and I would certainly recommend OJ's. I believe they have half off wine prices on Wednesday or Thursday.
Love the "Family-owned" Restaurant atmosphere. It's quite comical!
I have been going to this place for years. I'm always surprised by the freshness of the ingredients. You can really taste the difference in the cheese, veggies and meat.
I really love their wings. You've got to try the Honey Garlic Wings. They are finger-licking good!!!
I find it funny how the Panago Pizza Employees come here for slices! Apparently, the owner says they've been coming here for years!
Ate there for lunch on a recommendation. I don't know what grabbed my co-workers to come here again, but I don't think I will be.
I had an Alaskan Roll which was nicely made and tasty, but then it went downhill from there. I also ordered a Chef's Special Roll (a glorified California roll) and was disappointed. The roll was made loosely, half of the time my food was spilling all over my plate. Huge pet peeve; how difficult is it to tighten a roll when you make it?
Also, I had nigiri salmon roe (tobiko) and the pieces didn't hold well together nor did they put many eggs, at least compared to many sushi bars I have gone to.
For the price I paid (over $16), you didn't get quantity or quality. The staff wasn't very attentive, and they just mopped the floor and left water on the floor, didn't bother taking a dry or wrung mop to the floor afterwards.
I did leave them a tip however, the tip was to tighten the rolls better and don't leave a wet floor so people can slip.
We phoned in the afternoon for a reservation and left a voicemail. Tried again later still no one answered. Received a call at 5:04pm saying we had a reservation for 5:10pm!! We were in the parking lot when we got the call!! I should have know where this was going.
After trekking up a long flight of stairs we were taken to a booth near a loud group of red hat women, at our request to be seated further away we were given another booth only 2 away from them. We were left seated without menus for about 10 minutes, no one approached for drink orders. When the server finally appeared she was friendly but distracted. The service was slow and not very personal, she never introduced herself.
Our tea was served tepid and the teapots didn't hold enough water to fill the mugs. It took forever for her to return, but after we received the food the staff stopped by so often it became quite annoying. The server said we had a choice between rice and potatoes, but when we ordered this was somehow forgotten - we were served the potatoes.
We ordered from the 'feature' sheet; Vienna schnitzel with Lobster bake and Bavaria schnitzel topped with hollandaise, crab & shrimp. The meals came with goulash soup & garlic toast - the soup was salty and tasteless. The server said it was a ground beef / tomato base with vegetables, I had 1 or 2 tiny bits of beef (?) in my bowl and no vegetables at all. The schnitzels were breaded pork, cooked nicely, they came with roasted potatoes and cooked red cabbage. The main course was tasty but not good enough to warrant a second visit.
As for the red hat women, they were loud and boorish - shouting constantly, and performing loud ear-piercing whistles, it was too bad the staff didn't take a stand and ask them to tone it down.
My experince at the Bavaria Restaurant was not great, I would not recommend it and I will not return.
I love this place so much I drive out from Vancouver whenever I can. The crust is "crispchewy," the sauce is bright and fresh tasting, and all the toppings are delicious. The owners were friendly and made us feel at home. The only problem is they could use a few more tables but I would stand if I had to.
Well worth the drive.
