We had dinner here the other night because we felt like staying close to home. What a mistake. It was pasta night and all the pastas except for the seafood pasta were on special for $6.95. My husband had the baked spaghetti and I had regular spaghetti. We also ordered 2 salads at an additional cost of $2.00 each. The salads were the best part of the meal.
The spaghetti had been cooked for so long that it was almost mush and the sauce didn't even taste as good as some bottled spaghetti sauces that I've bought. I didn't feel it was good value at $6.95 and I would have felt supremely ripped off if I'd paid the regular prices for this mess of a meal. The ambiance is decent and service was acceptable but when I go out to eat my main criteria is that the food has to be good.
Not recommended. Buy a can of spaghetti sauce and cook your own pasta you'll have a way better meal.
We stopped by The Rendezvous after hearing rave reviews from friends who had been dining there for years. My wife ordered the chicken souvlaki dinner, and I had a large (more like huge!) baked lasagne and a side order of greek salad. My wife's dinner was, according to her, perfect. She said the chicken was juicy and delicous, the greek roast potatoes perfectly tangy, and the greek salad- well I'll get to that in a minute!
My lasagne was very large (I had to take some home) and it was covered in cheese- something that many places I've been to 'cheap out' on. It was very tasty! Now on to the greek salad. Wow! Fresh and crisp with plenty of feta, I had to mention to our waitress how great it was. When I asked her if they made the unbelievably distinctive greek dressing in-house, she said yes and went on to list the local markets that, along with the restaurant, carry it. That's right- it's so delicious, and popular, that they bottle it and sell it for resale at local stores! I proceeded to purchase a litre for at home. We have since used it for salads and marinades with winning results.
The only thing about the experience that was slightly disappointing was that there was a large table beside us that was a little loud, which distracted us from conversation once or twice, however I wouldn't blame the restaurant on this ambiance issue as that can be the case anywhere you go, and the soft lighting and gentle background music definitely made up for it.
Overall, I can't believe I hadn't been to The Rendezvous as I used to think it was just a pizza joint, however now I realize what our friends kept raving about.Highly recommended!
