Japanese sushi restaurant that serves the standard fair of tempura, rolls, sashimi, etc.
Having just moved to Abbotsford, I thought I would start trying the local sushi places to find the best one. Unfortunately Dake Japanese is one I will not be returning to. We arrived on a Saturday evening to find a quiet restaurant that seemed relatively clean - always a good sign. Ordered up some miso soup, tuna/salmon sashimi, and yam tempura roll. My friend had the dynamite box which consisted of dynatmite roll, ebi sunomono, tempura, gomaae, and salad. Also ordered one piece tuna belly and tamago.
The good - yam tempura roll was very nicely presented. Impressive! The salmon sashimi was delicious - tasted fresh and just the way it should be.
The bad - oh dear. Tuna sashimi was still frozen. The miso was weak. Tempura was just ok but the gomaae was terrible. The dressing was tasteless and runny. The tuna belly was also frozen but no complaints from my friend on the tamago.
The service was ok - polite waitress and the food arrived in a timely matter. Forget about getting tea refills though... no such luck!
Being spoiled with good sushi in Vancouver, I will not return here. Frozen sashimi? No thanks. Weak miso? Not impressive. I will continue hunting.
Should also note that the fruit flies converged on us which was quite worrisome. Lots of bugs flying around in general trying to share our meal.
