I don't write allot of reviews but the Lava Lounge is exceptional, The onion soup is the best we have ever had,
the service was great. We went there for dinner and had to go back for the lunch too.
The server recommended the Kettle valley red wine and it a perfect choice.
For lunch we had the steel head fish and chips and it was the best I have ever had.
For dessert try the deep fried ice cream.
Oh and the butler blue cheese steak was perfect too.
MUST TRY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Worth it!

A very nice moderate deco Chinese restaurant in Port Coquitlam. With my kids for dinner, very friendly server greet us. Very clean with typical Chinese restaurant ambient. The menus maybe needs updating but easy to understand not to many items as most typical Chinese restaurant. We ordered pre set menu for $9 for 3 items on one order. One thing good about it you can chose any item you want, not like you cannot change the set like some restaurant. And the portions really generous. Overall it was worth it and we definitely coming back.

Boring menu

First of all, this is a Korean, not a Chinese restaurant, even though the name says Tai Won Chinese Restaurant. I have only been there for lunch, so I can only comment on that. I must say have never seen a more boring menu. Every dish lists pork as the main ingredient - pork on rice, pork on noodles, pork with bean sauce, or in spicy soup. There's a total of less than 10 items, and some of them were the same, just different sizes. So choosing what to order was very easy. We decided on a large order of pork noodles in spicy soup (for 2 or 3 people, according to the menu).
The order came in an enormous bowl, indeed enough for at least 3 people. But surprise - it wasn't pork. It was seafood, which was definitely not on the menu - well, not in the Engllish part of the menu, at least. Whether it's in the Korean part, I have no idea. But anyway, we asked the waitress if she had brought the wrong item to our table. She took a look and said it's what we ordered. "The menu is wrong," she said.
We gladly accepted the substitution because we'd much rather have seafood than pork. But still, it was weird. The food itself was not anything special. It's not worth a second visit, in my opinion.

Akari Japanese Restaurant7261 120 Street, Delta
Best Quality Food

It's really hard to find good quality Japanese restaurants in the lower mainland. My experience at Akari Japanese restaurant was outstanding. I've been to Akari several times with my family and friends this year. I am very picky with Japanese food and the quality really really matters to me. I love all kinds of Japanese food but fresh sashimi is my favourite at all times. Akari had very fresh, chewy, and yummy sashimi. We ordered sashimi salad and grilled black cod with vegetables for appetizers, and some of the special rolls. The food was fresh, very tasty and the decoration was beautiful! Some of the special rolls can be a bit pricy but they are so worth it. I really enjoyed their rolls. They offer many different kinds of rolls and all are very very unique. You can choose either white rice or black rice. I personally really liked the ones with black rice. They looked yummy, tasted incredible, fresh, satisfying and very filling. The service was great too! Thinking of Akari's food makes me want to eat there again right now lol. I highly recommend Akari Japanese restaurant to anyone who love Japanese cousin! :)

A friend and I were there on a Monday night and although it was almost empty when we walked in, it was full and busy by the time we left. Obviously a very popular spot. We ordered some sashimi and 3 rolls but when the bill came, we weren't charged for one of the rolls. Turns out they had a special on so that brought our bill down to $24 including HST, which was quite decent considering we were both full. The Vancouver Roll tasted a bit fishy to me, but the other rolls were quite good. The food was well presented and inventive. The tataki nigi was a bit disappointing as it should have been warm having just been blow-torched but it was actually cold. The service was solid and they were happy to keep refilling our cups with complimentary tea and didn't mind that we lingered long after we finished eating. I would consider this a little "hole in the wall" gem. Nothing fancy, but good for sushi on a budget.

I've purchased some pastries from the bakery and it was gross. The pastries went bad and I brought them back to the store. The owner instead of apology and refund or at least offer something else, he asked me to take my business somewhere else and do not get back to the store. He was supper rude he has bad temper and he was ready to get violent. I am not sure with this customer service how long more he can survive. I've tried to support this business but now I regret it. I've should of called the cups when he yield at me. Please don't waste your time and money in that store!!!!

I love this place! Sadly it is somewhat overlooked because of another sushi place that opened nearby in a slightly busier location. Every time I have eaten here I have been a happy customer. The food is fresh and tasty, the staff is friendly, and the atmosphere is stylish. Prices are great. I highly recommend this restaurant for eating in or taking out.

I have been several times for breakfast and lunch. The service is always oustanding. The first time we had pasta it was fantastic. We had a spaghetti bolognese and a spaghetti with vegetable/tomato sauce. The sauces were great. There were tons of vegetables in my wifes dish. It was so good we went back and ordered the same thing. This time the portions were barely two thirds the size. There were very few fresh vegeables in my wifes dish. My plate had very little Bolognese sauce on it. It is clearly hit and miss maybe depending on who is cooking. They need to be consistent with both the quality and the portion sizes. Overall I recommend it but avoid the busy periods because you will wait a long time.

Overall this is a good shop. The quality and selection is very good. The owners really try hard to offer a good product and are very knowledgeable about their foods. The owners will offer advice if you ask. The only negative is a woman who works in the deli area. She is positivley rude. She clearly displays attitude in the way she handles your food and talks to you. She is constantly leaning over and wispering comments to the other staff. This store is owned by very good people. I don't know how they are missing this problem.

When you come here, be sure to order this dish!

It is authentic to every taste like the capital city in North Vietnam. The veggies dish are rich and plentiful! The portion is huge so it is a very great sharing plate with someone.

Also you must order their Banh Mi Ga Nuong ! That's A Special Vietnamese Chicken Sandwich with very Crispy Skin combined with Lemon Grass Grill Chicken and a lot of Veggies, super super yummy!

Their Homemade Fresh Fruits Smoothies r also a PLUS such as Avocado MilkShake, Durian MilkShake, and StrawBerryShake...! That's So Delicious !

After writing this review, I will pay a visit again tomorrow and many more for sure !

Black & Blue1032 Alberni Street, Vancouver
Style over substance

We like to check out all the nice places in town, especially for a good steak! And although my husband is vegetarian, he looks forward to the rich side dishes at a steak house very much.

So we head to Black and Blue for a special dinner. The food was uneven, my tenderloin steak was good, but many of the 5 sides we ordered were not great. We liked the mac and cheese and onion rings, but didn't really care for the brussels sprouts (usually our favorite!) mushroom or french fries. Our salads were OK, again pretty high priced, especially for the burratta salad which only had a small burratta on it.

While this place had great design and atmosphere (if you can look past the Dexter-style meat display!) with tons of carts of tableside food preparation, overall the service was very NOT fine dining-ish. The servers were nice, just not super well trained in the details. We had servers openly questioning whether they could transfer our tab to another table when we moved tables, another one bumbling with the bill and payment, etc.

While the food was good to mediocre, the prices were on par with the most expensive restaurants in Vancouver, and Black and Blue did not provide the food or the service we would expect for the prices they charge. The bar menu looks more reasonable, I feel like this is the kind of place you could take a date or business associate, sit at the bar, enjoy the pretty people and atmosphere, and have a drink and snack. But we came here for a fine steakhouse, and sadly, that this place is not.

On On Wonton House5640 Kingsway, Burnaby
Worst Experience EVER!

Submitted Monday, March 4, 2013 - 10:12am [Delivery]

So... I've been ordering from On On for the last 10 years or so I would say. I am NOT a complainer... But with yesterdays poor service and lack of customer service, i just had to share my experience.

Ordered:
Spicy Spareribs
Crispy Noodle - Chicken Chow Mein with Vegetables
Vegetable Chop Suey.

Ordered delivery at about 6:45. Food arrived at 730 as stated. When we sat at the dinner table we noticed that the Spiced Spareribs were not fully cooked and the Chicken w/ Vegetable Chow Mein was not crispy as we had ordered.

The Chow Mein we could deal with. But serving raw Pork is a No NO!!!!

My dad called On On - Spoke to the lady who answered the call. We explained our disappointment and was told by the lady... That they are not to blame and the reason we got soft noodles is because we must have ordered the wrong item. Well ... I've always ordered the same items from them... so to make it sound like i ordered the wrong item was insulting. Fine. No cripsy noodles. Got that. But her explanation for the spareribs... There wasn't any. No acknowledgement of serving under cooked spareribs. Not even a sorry... or we'll give you a credit. Not even the option of us taking back the spareribs to have them replaced. Nothing. The lady on the phone was rude and unprofessional.

I will NOT be ordering from On On again... And this rant is just the start of my fury! I will be letting all my friends and family know NOT to dine there... Needless to say the my $30 for dinner was wasted as well as the spareribs being tossed in the trash. Could you blame me? Would you eat under cooked pork?

My wife and I made the tragic mistake of dining here recently. We were met by the most unfreindly indifferent staff I have ever run into. That should have immediately triggered a walk out. We stayed and ordered Dim Sum from a menu. It was AWFUL!! We eat Dim Sum regularly. Vancouver has some of the best in North America. NOT THIS PLACE. The Har Gow (Shrimp dumpling) completely fell apart when trying to pick them up. There was no attempt to make a proper shrimp filling. Just a few shrimp wrapped in a very loose wrapper. The flavour of the shrimp was very bad and fishy. Next we had the Sticky rice wrap. It had no flavor at all. It seemed like it was just some tasteless ground pork steamed in some rice. We added some soy sauce but this was the most salty cheap soy sauce I have ever had. We next had steamed BBQ pork buns. Again these were falling appart. When we removed the paper on the bottom the filling just fell out. We also had the Siu Mai (Pork dumpling). The pork was very hard to chew. It was some crappy grissle of pork. The taste was really bad. There were a few shrimp bits but again these tasted off and fishy. Our last item Rice bowl with chicken never arrived. After checking this finally came after a 20 minute wait. They had short cut the preparation however. It was just a bowl of plain rice with a few pieces of chicken they had boiled in plain water with some soy sauce on top. It was disgusting. Obviously they had screwed up and their solution was to rush together something that looked like a rice dish. It was inedible. We left. Our tip reflected their crap food and indifferent attitude. ZERO!!!! NEVER AGAIN!!!!

Called and ordered 1 small pizza and 1 large pizza and were told 45mins for delivery. After 1hr 15min we called to check on it and were told it was on it's way. We asked what time he left, but the girl on the phone seemed to not care or want to answer any questions. After 1hr 30 mins, we called back again and were told the same thing. At this point we cancelled our order and told them we would not be accepting the order.

At the 2hr mark, after we had already cancelled the order, the delivery guy showed up at our door. We told him several times what happened and even though it was not his fault, we were not going to accept or pay for the pizza as it had been a 2hr wait and we phoned and cancelled. After haggling with us and not leaving the door, we gave him $15 and took the pizza.

We ended up with 2 large pizzas, so on paper it was a good deal if you ignore the terrible service and long wait. The pizza tasted good, but both of us have had upset stomachs today & last night.....

Bottom line: we will never order here again or ever recommend it.
