I like the sushi here. Higher end, and slightly higher priced than your average tuna and salmon bulk sushi shops, but fair value. I won't put it on my recommended list though as service is very slow. On our last take out order, had to wait 30 mins past pick up time. This is not the first time, but a consistent issue with Sushi Bella - both take out and dine in. The kitchen simply is not mature enough to manage their workload. My visits here are becoming fewer and far between. The sushi is good, but not good enough to justify the slow service.
We were looking for some place different to take my mother-in-law for dinner for Mother's Day. We began looking and found Indian Affair. Thankfully we made a reso ahead of time on a Saturday night as it was busy both in the seating of the restaurant and the takeout offers.
We ordered the rice with peas, garlic family size nan bread, chicken tikka masala, okra masala, aloo gobi and prawn vindaloo. After ordering we received complementary popadum. Everything arrived together and the flavour was yummy. We asked for medium to hot and found that we could easily add additional hot-sauce to it. The portion size was good and with 5 people eating there was enough to take leftover.
All staff we encountered were every friendly. I rated the service 3 only because we found we had to flag the servers down to have water refills and ask for other things. This could have been since they were busy.
We would gladly return here in the future, hopefully for the buffet. This restaurant has on-line coupons. Just print them off and bring with with you. We used a $8.00 when you spend $40.
The cat and fiddle pub is a great place for a night out, whether your with your friends, family, co-workers or by yourself. The food is amazing and the staff have great attitudes! I would highly recommend coming here for a great time out! They have a wide variety to choose off their delicious menu, and endless amounts of tasty drinks and always have wicked specials!
The Cat and Fiddle is an awesome pub. The location was very easy to find, I like the setting of the pub. It is very spacious. Also how kids can go in the pub which gives it a family atmosphere. The servers were efficient and quick, and the food tasted amazing. I had a great night, and would go back again.
Our daughter chose this lovely neighbourhood restaurant for a family celebration. She was thrilled to try the plant-based meals, and we each ordered a different item for brunch. My husband's Vegetable Hash was a bland medley of stuff of the same color: chick peas, potatoes, and ???--it tasted earthy like beets. There was no attempt to break the monotony of yellow. He felt the dish was like eating one big curried potato. Other than his plate, our meals were attractive. None of our food was hot, just lukewarm. The textures and flavours did not work well together either. The dressings were acidic, and the food tough. Tough kale, tough tofu, tough bennie biscuit. The food has left one of us burping the remainder of the day, skipping the next meal, and seeking the relief from an ant-acid.
Relatively clean place, bright, open. Service was friendly enough but they are a tad short staffed.
There is an amazing selection of dosa's and they're really good. Extensive menu with many options. Server told us mild is the default and if you want spicy, you gotta ask, which is great. Could enjoy the food without suffering as happens at some places.
The other dishes we tried were not perfect, some parts of each were fantastic, some meh but everyone enjoyed every dish. Boy oh boy, some of the portions looked quite substantial! No skimping out here. Everything seemed to have been made to order (except the slow cooker curried of course), fresh and not overcooked.
We lasted the day without getting super thirsty or bloated/plugged as many other Indian places.
Highly recommended, we would return again for sure to sample the rest of the menu
Bad food followed by even worse service. I would never go back. Food was sour and tasted sour like it had gone bad. Owners argued and yelled at each other when I asked for the bad food that I didn't eat to be taken off the bill. As I paid for the bill they continued to yell at each other about how I had the audacity to return the food and how they now how to take it off the bill. I will never go here again and advise anyone looking forward to a nice night not to be ruined by the lack of respect for others the shop owners have pls try a different place. Seriously it just ruined our night.
This was one of the worst experience I have ever encountered. Had the won ton soup which was terrible. Very bland and tasteless not to mention it was luke warm. I asked for them to make it hotter and they just put it in the microwave. My friends pad Thai was garbage. Mushy noodles with very little sauce making it bland siracha couldn't even save the flavour not to mention the weird tast kinda like dirty wok not very pleasing!!! Had a few appies aswell and deep fried and bland aswell. 35$ for terrible food come on really wok box!
This little sushi restaurant is located a block away from Willingdon & Lougheed in the busy construction area of Brentwood. There's a dozen or so restaurants in the vicinity and only two or three so-called Japanese restaurants. Sushi Yoi is fairly new and it's clean, with nice ambience. The food wasn't memorable but it was decent. They don't say "Irashaimase!" when you walk in so it's not authentic Japanese. Skytrain is nearby...I'm running out of positive things to say...ah...um...Pita Pit is next door.
We've been coming here for years. We're not regular customers but maybe twice a year. I remember when we first came here, we thought it was one of the best Italian restaurants - reasonable prices, excellent fresh food, casual atmosphere. This is what I wrote in 2011.
But recently, I've found Lombardo's a big let down. Was there a change in ownership or menu? The spaghetti wasn't the same. I'm not a fan of the thick dough pasta. The linguini vongole was not up to par. The salads were fresh but lacked taste. Same with the pizza - bland. Marcello's is far superior in all aspects. Lombardo's staff are still excellent and professional and the atmosphere is still quirky ....but it's the food that's most important.
Sorry, but I won't be returning.
Le Crocodile continues to be an oldie but a real goodie. They're consistent in terms of food quality, plating, and service. They are also active in trying to accommodate requests.
Our most recent experience was for a birthday celebration. It seems that many people were celebrating that evening, at least 4 of which i was aware. We chose the tasting menu and as the previous reviewer said, nothing was 'taste bud' blowing, BUT only because everything was spot on.
Granted we are slow eaters, conversation and wine flowed; our experience was 3 hours of pure enjoyment. We were stuffed after the saffron pasta with chanterelle mushrooms. We soldiered on and persevered through the exquisite complementary dish combinations.
The only reason i allocated a '3' rather than a '4' for value is for the Sommelier and the wine. The list of wines is overwhelmingly long and we didn't feel the advice we got was sincere. It was a sales push in earnest. Despite this, our dining celebration was a definite hit.
I'm apprehensive about praising 'Provence Marinaside' purely for the fact that i know once the secret is back out - i'll have to wait for a table. The renovations are finally done and the place looks amazing, very sleek yet Provence still maintains their laid back style.
Came for dinner, left happy, full and wanting more - in the sense of when is my calendar free so i can come back? The menu choice was varied, portion size was pretty good and our server was amazing. She was professional, friendly, and not too in your face.
I do wish i had known about 40% off a bottle of wine at the start of the meal though. The server recommended a couple of 'bite size' dishes - all delicious. 2 'tapas' style dishes for $10 AND on Monday, the dishes are available for $3/each.
We shared a variety of appetizers that included quinoa salad, seafood salad, squid and clams. We probably ate too much bread due to the yummy sauces that we mopped up without hesitation. Our mains consisted of crab, halibut, pasta and bouillabaisse. In all honesty, the plates when back to the kitchen 'clean'. #impressive
This should be a go to place for everything! - for brunch (also really good), business lunch, out of town guest dinner, casual dinner. Just go!
Many reviews have been written about various Cactus Club Cafe restaurants, so I will not repeat what has been said. In terms of food quality, this one is very much on par with the rest, consistently maintaining the Feenie-specified standards. Service, too, is up there with the best of them. What makes this one different are two things: (1) the setting -- by the beach, facing the beautiful sunset over English Bay, and (2) the upstairs, at least, being smaller, more intimate, and surprisingly non-noisy, despite the many hard surfaces of the decor. I and my friend had a most pleasant dinner, enjoying the food, the view, and most of all, easy conversation because of the relatively subdued noise level. The downstairs is bigger and has a bar in it, so it may be a little noisier. After dinner, take a stroll on the beach. Very pleasant and enjoyable.
What a concept - real fresh food people want. Wraps sandwiches salads smoothies soup- it's all here! Had a grilled veggie sandwich with cheese and 2 large salad sides for $8! Ok the cous cous sald I ordered was gross be warned. Soooooo dry. But the beets were amazing!! Where else can you have roasted beets for lunch ! Dam!
Every neighbourhood has a no frills restaurant you can go to have a quick dinner, drink and watch the game.We decided to watch the hockey playoffs from this restaurant.
Ordered some pub faves to start - chicken wings and potato skins.
Wings tasted like Pinty's only worse - you can tell the sauce is store bought
Potato skins- acceptable but the cheese they used tasted like a blend of cheeses you can get from kraft.
Caesar salad- nothing to write home about - acceptable
Don't bother coming here even with the late night specials. If you are looking for a local restaurant in the King Ed Oak area Neighbours is the better choice.
Original authentic japanese food from a japanese Chef. Refreshing considering most owners are Korean or Chinese in this area. Daily specials, Original rolls and they serve liquor. Food wait times are longer than normal as there is only one cook. Small dining area so large party's of 6 or more might not fit. Very friendly staff. About the same price point as the neighbouring restaurants but smaller sushi portions. The difference in portions is balanced by the presentation and care in preparation. This place is not your typical large portion, lower mainland ,get you in and out as fast as possible sushi joint. It's worth the drive from Vancouver to try this place out.
If I could give 0, it would have been 0. They recently moved into the location of Shandong Family Restaurant - I want my Shandong back!
Basically if you don't speak Mandarin, don't expect any service. We were discriminated against and treated with disrespect - the owner (lady) and 1 of the 2 other servers were incredibly rude. The owner did not speak a lick of English and the 2 other servers spoke just enough to get by.
I called in to make a reservation - I told the gentleman on the phone: number in our party and 6pm, he said OK and hung up. No name or phone number taken.
We arrived and luckily there was a table for us. We took some time to look at the menu. Everything is priced slightly higher than we expected. We asked 1 of the servers for recommendations. He had to go to the boss lady to ask about each question we had and basically couldn't recommend anything (because of language barrier and miscommunication). We ordered lamb soup noodles (9.99), pork & chive dumplings (12 for 9.99), and beef & lamb crepe (9.99) - the server said this would not be enough for 3 adults. We were also told beef & lamb crepe is size of a small plate. We changed this dish to beef pancake (5.99).
Beef pancake arrived about 15 minutes later. It was quite small, and we noticed dishes at other tables had small portions as well for their price point, except a big claypot (apparently their specialty) and a crab dish.
We asked each one of them for hot water over a 5 minute period. First guy forgot. Second guy decided to set a table before serving his guests - us and another table waiting for tea, served tea to the other table, and still forgot our water. Finally, the owner lady looked at us when we asked, waved her arm at us as if to say "wait", then tended to guests coming in the front door. When we were obviously unhappy, she spoke in Mandarin to one of the servers to ask us if there was a problem. I responded yes, that she was being rude. He said "How come?" I explained and his response was "Do you know how busy we are? Do you think it's easy?" I said, "No, it's not easy, but you need to address your customers a little better." There are 3 servers in a restaurant of about 15 tables of varying sizes (2-10 ppl). Are you serious????? You should not be working in the restaurant industry. Shandong had 2 ppl working the restaurant COMPLETELY full with lineups at the door and were fabulous!!! There are PLENTY of restaurants out there short-staffed and those servers don't complain about working their asses off.
You are in VANCOUVER, CANADA. If you don't want business from non-Mandarin-speaking people, pls just put a sign at the front door. Nobody deserves to walk in as a customer and be treated like that.
We paid for the beef pancake and left. You can be sure we WON'T be back.
