I don't normally write reviews, but in this case I thought it was fitting since my experience was mediocre...
I had made resos online at around 10am for dinner that same day for 6:45pm (it was for a Tuesday so didn't see any problems). I attached a note when making the resos requesting for ocean view seating for 6 AND if they were not able to accommodate seating with a view, for the restaurant to contact me so I could make other arrangements with a different restaurant.
While I'm driving im on my way down to the restaurant and at 6:30pm, 15 mins till my resos I get a call from the restaurant advising they couldn't accommodate seating with a view. Well with short notice, I had no choice but to keep my resos.
We got to the restaurant, was seated, and had to wait for so long for SOMEONE/ anyone to ask us for drinks - I mean it was extremely hot that day, so even water would have been nice.
We finally put in our order, and when our dinner came, one plate had a hair on it. They quickly took the plate away, and literally, no joke, within a minute came back with the meal on another plate . That means they didn't bother to fire up a new dish- they just switched the plates. That is absolutely disgusting !!! And to make it worse, they didn't even offer us a discount or anything.... They simply brushed it off its "no big deal"! As for food, I cannot speak for other meals other than mine own which was the Lamb Shank. I found the lamb shank to be very disappointing, as there was no meat, all bone, and whatever meat that is attached is all fat.
Our meals were not cheap either, the bill came up to over $200 - no alcohol was ordered fyi.
We didn't want to make a scene because we had out of town guests with us, but will be contacting the restaurant to rectify this situation!
Sorry, I had to say it as I'm nursing a gut ache, stomach cramps and a headache about 5 hours after lunch at Paesano's. It was the only Outside food (aside from a starbucks muffin) I ate in several days. And my home kitchen is pretty much vegan and very clean. I should have Checked the bad customer reviews first!
Even if it wasn't for the possible contaminated food, (and I do say possible in all fairness) I would still ever go back. The food is very Overpriced for quality and quantity, overcooked pasta, didn't get my order right even though I had make it very clear. Slow service, sauces were very salty, very oily and bland. Ordered their most expensive pasta dish and was disappointed. Pizza bread starter was a joke. Slow service and pushy for more drinks. Made me feel uncomfortable because I wanted to pay with a credit card and not cash or debit.
All in all, Paesano's seems like a dumb tourist place. Travellers who will never go back. I can't fathom any person who might have given decent reviews.
I think they went to the wrong place or were paid for a good review, perhaps? Who knows? I Rank Paesano's 1 out of 5 and that is generous, I believe.
Sorry to the owners fornthe poor review. I can't think of one good thing to say about Paesanos at the moment.
Came here this afternoon with a friend (Canada Day) Originally I wanted to go to "Pajos" but the line up was an hour and a half there, so we came upon this place. We were happy that we didn't have to wait long to get our orders in, but "Oh my gosh" about a 20 minute wait for our food.
We went to the patio part....NOT the restaurant. I ordered 2 pieces of salmon and fries with a coke. My friend ordered cod with fries and some water. As stated earlier. took about 20 minutes or more to get our food. the only utensils they had out were spoons....had to get knife and fork from counter......no condiments except vinegar.
When we sat down my friend noticed that they gave her salmon instead of the cod (that's ok....mistakes happen) she went to return it; and they told her that she ordered salmon.....she then said it was her friends (mine)......So instead of doing the classic; "That's ok....keep it and we will give you what you ordered" they took the salmon back (wonder what they are going to do with it) and gave her the cod......they could had also ither gave her a new order of fries....or offered to top them up......
Anyways, we sat to eat. The salmon was ok "nothing special" We noticed the fries were Costco kind....exactly what I had at Costco. This place is so expensive and they serve Costco fries and mediocre food.......This was a joke. I paid the same price here as I would at a restaurant (give or take a couple of dollars)
The thing that gets to me; is that when I paid with my credit card; they asked for a tip on the machine.....and feeling bad....I left 15%.......which doesn't warrant it after all this. mediocre food, slow service and not compensating?
Do yourselves a favour. Go to Steveston and enjoy the area. But afterwards; just go to one of the restaurants there; or elsewhere. This place charges restaurant prices, but service is terrible......you wait as long (and maybe longer) for your food.....and don't have wait staff here.
ZERO ZERO ZERO
Will NEVER return
Having ordered from JustEat in the past and content with the food and service (delivery boy brought it on time despite our mess up on the address), we decided to head out for dinner here. We thought Monday night would be good enough in terms of finding a seat and not having to wait in line for too long but when we arrived it was a whole different picture. Speaking to the staff, we figured it would be at least an hour before we got a table, which would be too late for us. We ended up going for take out and taking the food back to our apartment.
It was the turn for fish masala, aloo gobi and rice pulao this night. I'm not a big fan of the fish masala but since it was ready we just went for it. Funnily enough, it turned out to be the most tasty of the two dishes. The portions actually lasted us two days so we were happy. For $31, it was a great deal.
We had a wonderful evening at Le Vol au Vent. We made reservations and requested a table on the patio as they do not have air conditioning and BC is exceptionally hot this year. We arrived early and were greeted warmed by both the chef and his wife – I believe her name is Dana. She said that our table on the patio was ready but if we wanted to move inside there would be no problem. The patio is great for people watching and the ocean is right across the street.
As others have mentioned the service is slow since the wife was serving all the tables and it was a very busy evening. We never felt like we were ignored though and she was very pleasant and helpful the whole evening. She explained the various wines that they had available and also told us about the specials. At the end of the evening she gave us a small glass of a different wine for us to sample.
We started off with morel mushrooms vol au vent in a lovely cream sauce. For entrees my husband had the rack of lamb medium rare. It was very tasty and was a decent size. I had the filet mignon with a cognac sauce that was just heavenly. The entrees were served with vegetables and pommes frites. The pommes frites were really good dipped in the cognac sauce from the steak. The entrees also came with what I think were gnocchi. They were not very interesting but this is really a minor quibble.
It was a lovely evening on the patio with great food served in a leisurely fashion. If you’re looking for a quick meal this is not the restaurant for you but if you want to just relax and enjoy yourself this is a great spot.
This place is the standard when it comes to serving quality lunch buffets. We came for lunch at 1 pm on Saturday and there was a bit of a wait. A good sign as it is a popular place, and since we were not famished we just waited it out.
I am not new to Indian food at all and order take-out quite often, but since my aunt was visiting from out of town I decided to take her some place nice and eat in. India bistro was a safe bet; you can’t go wrong with the food served here. The food is always prepared fresh and doesn't overdose on spices. My aunt tried almost everything and helped herself to second servings while I just kept it conservative with the butter chicken. I would highly recommend it for people looking for a more than decent lunch option.
I have worked near this restaurant for years and never been there. Went there with a group recently and what a surprise!! Service was excellent and food was too. Pricing is most reasonable (cheaper than Boston Pizza) and the quality is ten times better. They have specials that makes prices even better and portions are generous. Very impressive overall! I will definitely go back and will enjoy surprising people with this place!!
Just had the worst customer service from Yoko Sushi in Coquitlam. Pick up my order, get home - half of my order is wrong. No big deal. I'm sure if I call them, they will deliver the rest of my order. Clearly... not so much. They basically didn't believe me on the phone, made me bring the entire order back so I couldn't even eat what was correct. When I asked if they could deliver the rest of my order, she said they would have to pay the delivery guy. So that wasn't an option. At this point, I'm hangry AND angry. When I get back to Yoko, I literally have to pick up the roll in my hand to show her that it's not my order because she just keeps looking at the receipt and saying that's what I ordered. At the end of this, they gave me my money back and I had to give the whole order back so I'm still hangry. I won't be back, and she didn't seem too sad to see me leave.
Their sushi is good, but nothing special. I will happily order from the other three sushi restaurants down the street.
My sister and my sister in law were taking me out for a late birthday lunch. I was having a hard time deciding between Earls and Milestone's; but decided on Earl's since I have been many times to Milestone's.
My sisters kids are older, but my sister in law had a one and a half year old daughter; so we asked if we could have a high chair for my niece and they didn't have any (Ok, we know it's NOT a kid oriented restaurant.....which is great, because I hate going to places and having kids screaming and running around.....but it would be nice if they had one or two because the have the odd times they will babies and kids)
Anyhow, for food: My sister ordered a clam chowder. My sister in law had a pizza, my one nephew had some sort of a sand which. My other nephew had a ceasar salad appetizer and a chicken and mushroom pasta, my niece had chicken strips and fries and I had fettucini chicken alfredo.
Our food came, and it was pretty good we have to admit. I was even surprised with my nieces order of chicken strips and fries, but after finding out that it cost $13 for that, it really wasn't worth it. My chicken fettucini cost $17.50 and it wasn't even that much. At Anton's I would get ALOT more for $17, and even other places are better priced for sure. The portion sizes really are not that great for the price
When we left (my sister being smart) found street parking, but my sister in law parked in their slanted parking lot......It took me 10 minutes to guide her out...or else she would had hit another parked car (which probably wouldn't make my brother too happy) Its been like that forever.....time to fix it.
Don't really think I will return
A buddy of mine gave me a jingle to see if I was interested in some fish n' chips. The only problem was I did not want to venture to New West nor North Burnaby to one of our main staples.. I did a quick search on the web and this place popped up with high regards. We decided on Friday at 2pm as we were thinkin that it might be too busy at 12 or 1.
The fish shop is located across from an car repair shop with Sun Sui Wah restaurant just up the corner. Parking is fine....I was lucky to find a 1h free parking just down a block and a half. My buddy found his spot up the block on a sidestreet. There were also paid parking on Main but they were all taken. As you step in...fish shop/condiment sales to the left side...cashier/ordering in the middle and cooking stations to the right. Seating?? One fixed corner table at the right front side with the main menu board above...stool counters to the right and bench to left of the door. There were also a pair of wooden benches outside. So extremely limited seating but gives a feeling of a wharf.
Anyways, I decided on a one piece halibut with requested well done fries and grabbed an orange soda on the left front side (limited selection as well). The grand total for my lunch was roughly 15 bucks and they gave you a number for pickup. As I was paying I made a comment about the tank of spot prawns ...$24 bucks per pound..WOW!!....I remember last year they were only 8 to 10 bucks per pound. I sat down on that little awkward table. My buddy.....I fought out got the same thing but with rootbeer. We waited for about 7 to 10 minutes for the call.
Verdict......fish was super fresh and flaky. The batter was light, crisp and not overly coated. The fries were crispy and not greasy..in fact I could not finish it. The tartar sauce was homemade and just the right zip. The side slaw was ....well...alright... cabbage and kale mix but the dressing needed more of a punch. Otherwise excellent FNC. My buddies verdict...the same...excellent.
Final thoughts.... Highly Recommendedl!! They take both cash and debit/cc as payment. Will definitely be back...might try out that oyster poboy or clam chowder or both. Thanks for reading.
Just came back from lunch with my wife and son. We went there quite often. This time when I walked in I noticed the restaurant was terribly hot inside. It seem the air conditioning was not working. We ordered beef bento, chicken teriyaki bento and beef yakisoba. While waiting for our dishes, I saw flies flying everywhere and landed on the table. Finally the dishes came. We were all disappointed. The beef yakisoba portion was really small when compare to previous we had. The beef was cold in the bento. Salad was not fresh. The avocado was blacken in the sushi maki roll. How could you serve blacken slimy avocado? Should be in the garbage.
I don't care what anyone says. It's not "Pizza Hut" it's not "Dominoes" it may not even be "Panagopoulos" but I don't care. I like their pizza and pasta.
You can't go wrong with a butter chicken pizza with white cream sauce, or plain chicken with or without BBQ sauce on it (at least at this place) and their pasta, Fine, not restaurant style, but I love getting their spaghetti with white sauce (chicken added) for a cheap price.
Certainly an alternative for a cheap spending night......oh, but if you want to have a pizza night order from here.......why spend $24 at the other places when this is good
Came here with some friends this weekend.
I usually don't want to go to AYCE sushi joints; as I tend to fill my self up too much, but we went anyways.
This place is a bit more expensive than regular sushi places that I have gone to, but found the taste and quality was better......and for the first time did not have missing items, or items that we didn't order be brought to our table (I think other sushi places bring items to our table that we didn't order on purpose) and also surprisingly; didn't have to wait too long at all for our food and there were a lot of us.
So if (or when) I do go for AYCE sushi again......This will be the place
We were excited to see this restaurant change in Port Moody as it was lacking a modern yet casual fare place to eat. It used to be the old Golden Spike, an old man bar by day and party scene by night with 80's interior. They did a fantastic job with the inside renovations. With stained wood beams, wrought iron fixtures, mood lighting with those old school funky light bulbs, wood tables, comfy booths; it gives off a rustic yet sophisticated style restaurant/bar. Kind of a reno'd Milestone's feel. There are always fresh bouquets of flowers throughout giving it a little extra "ah". It's open, with the top floor having a cozy fireplace, TV's throughout to watch sports and a nice sized bar featuring 50 different beers with local breweries like Yellow Dog and Moody Ales. The food is typical pub fare; calamari, wings, mac and cheese ( add in's available), salads, cheddar ale soup, burgers etc. All very tasty and priced like most pubs. Staff have been friendly on both occasions we have been here. Parking lot is always full since it opened, however we didn't have to wait for seating both times. Although it is kind of a sports bar, kids are welcome. Can get very busy on hockey nights, especially during playoffs so get there early! Overall, I think this is a worthy place to come and grab lunch or dinner with a group friends or family. They also do brunch on weekends!
I quite like this place. Just on the edge of the sketchy part of town the pub has a huge open feel to it if you sit at the bar. Large open windows let's the sun come in and gives you a chance to watch the various characters go by.
Word of warning, the beer and cider prices will knock your socks off. Last visit I ordered a pint of Lonetree Cider, something new I am told by the bartender to replace the same old same old Strongbow. A pint of this cider will set you back almost a ten spot, even made the bartender wince when I asked how much it cost.
Here's the trick or should I say the value of this place. Go during Happy Hour between 3-6pm. For every order of a pint of beer or cider you get "free" wings. That's right, for that 8.50 beer or near 10.00 cider you get a nice order of fresh, hot wings.
They have a long list of sauces to choose from, my favorite is the Thai Chili. These wings are good too, nice and meaty, and they give you at least ten to twelve big one's. So do the math. An order of wings at any other bar would be at least ten maybe eleven dollars. During Happy Hour along with your pint they are "free", so for me that is quite a good deal. I have ordered more than one pint and they are quite happy to give you more wings.
The staff are nice and attentive. There when you glass runs dry, friendly too.
Take note, my review is based only on the Happy Hours special and their wings I have never been there any other time and have never ordered anything else off the menu.
Outside Happy Hour specials if beer is that much the rest of the food better be amazing.
The food was mediocre at best. I ordered my mango chicken non-spicy but it came out spicy. My husband ordered his dish spicy and it was not. I think they just got the two mixed up. We didn't complain because the food didn't taste that good anyway, and a little spice wouldn't have made much difference. The restaurant looked like it needed some cleaning and the water glass felt greasy. I don't think I will come back and won't recommend it.
I am a long time customer of Omnitsky, (over 15 years at least.)
It has always been a great place to enjoy a good quality shaved roast bed sandwich on rye. Service was always pleasant and a great place to chat with the employees or the owner about current events. Before they moved from the Cambie Street location I would give them 4-5 across the board.
Now the bad... As usual I ordered my heated roast beef on rye with dijon without even looking at the menu. My wife was not very hungry so she ordered a small potato salad for take out. When I got to the check out my $8-9 sandwich was now $13... OK I thought to myself Vancouver is getting more expensive to live in.. so I can swallow this 30-40% increase in price because the food is good. But when I looked in the bag the potato salad was not there, (at least I thought.)
As it turns out the thimble of potato salad that was INCLUDED on Cambie now was an extra $3.75! AND no kosher pickle was included anymore. When I brought this to the attention of the staff in the kitchen, (all new by the way,)... all they said rudely is "It's been that way as long as I have worked here." Now certainly I can't be the first person to complain about a 8-9$ sandwich going to almost $20 with tax, so I asked the man at the check out. He was not new to the store and confirmed that many are complaining. He said that it was because the new rent was so expensive. For this rating I have given the Service a 1 and continue to do so despite the fact that this man was sympathetic to my position... and I do so because the women in the kitchen were so rude and uncaring. (They made me feel cheap and like I was bothering them for asking about these changes.)
Before I left, I took the potato salad out of the bag and asked the people in line behind me if this looked like $3.75 worth of food? (The container is about the size of a toonie and maybe 3 cm high.) All of them said that it looked like it was about "$1 worth of food... maybe $1.50 on the outside"
I really like the owner and would like for him to respond to this and change some pricing. I realize that things will get more expensive over time but to raise the price 100% (if you include the potato salad,) and hire staff that are 10% as good as the old staff is a recipe for disaster.
I hope that this is not a trend that we will see in Vancouver restaurants... or our great culinary gems may be a victim of the the overall success of our City's popularity.
We stopped in at the Fish Shack for a late lunch before the Canada-Swiss FIFA game. We got a table near the front entrance patio which was nice with the breeze. I can understand some people's complaints about the close quarters among tables. Service was fine.
Our calamari appetizer was pretty good, a different breading, not as crunchy as most but the aioli was very tasty. Fish and chips for both of us. My haddock was very good, crispy batter, lots of fish. Hand cut fries were perfect. The horseradish coleslaw was a bit overdressed with dressing running out into the fries, making some soggy. Wife's cod was also good but a bit small so I shared some haddock with her. She didn't care for the Asian coleslaw, it was very overdressed and didn't appeal to her at all. But generally she loved her F&C.
$58 for two with tip. Overall, other than the slaws missing the mark a bit, it was a good pre-game lunch. And Canada won. Yea!
The restaurant is in a somewhat run down area of Surrey but don’t let appearances deceive you. It is a very small restaurant but we were very warmly greeted as we walked in the door. It is a very casual restaurant and there is not much in the way of ambiance but the service was very good and the food was served in generous portions and very well prepared.
When we first ordered our waitress told us that we had probably ordered too much food. We were thinking the portions sizes would be what we generally get at Japanese restaurants that we’ve dined at. We received complimentary bowls of miso soup, very tasty and it was served with spoons for those of you who do not like to just pick it up and drink from the bowl. We had an appetizer of gyoza and they were also very good. Ebi Suomono was served with 2 good sized shrimp that were very tender. Most of the time when we order this dish they just have a few tiny shrimp in the bowl. We also had the following dishes. BBQ short rib on special. It came on a sizzling platter with mushrooms and onions on the bottom that had soaked up the flavor of the sauce and meat. Delicious. Chicken teriyaki was also a very generous portion and came on a bed of cabbage and mushrooms. Shrimp tempura was one of the best shrimp tempura that I’ve had. The batter was very light and crispy. It was not at all oily. Heavenly. We had 2 bowls of rice with our dinner. For dessert we finished off with tempura ice cream. I think I would rather just have plain ice cream, however the presentation of the ice cream was lovely with chocolate sauce drizzled over top and a sliced strawberry.
The total tab for this feast was just under $40.00 before tip. The service was very good. Our waitress was so cheerful and she checked on us frequently to ensure that we had everything we required.
We would definitely return to Okonomi
I have had two pretty awful experiences with this restaurant, and it's safe to say after the last one I will NEVER go back there.
The first time was a few months ago during exam week at university. Myself and a couple buddies ordered food from Wonderful Szechuan and had it delivered to the school (Cap U--not that far from the restaurant, but none of us had cars and it was pretty late at night). As we were unpacking the food we realized they hadn't given us chopsticks. The cafeterias on campus were closed and of course nobody had any utensils lying around. What kind of Chinese food establishment doesn't include chopsticks with take out or delivery?? So we called the restaurant and they REFUSED to bring us chopsticks and even had the audacity to tell us that including chopsticks in a delivery was a "special request", which makes absolutely no sense. They were incredibly rude and stubborn over the phone and we had to eat our food with our fingers. Disgusting.
Deciding that maybe this was a one-time bad experience (and because I've worked in customer service for years and know sometimes bad things happen and didn't want to make a big deal of it), I went back to WS last night after a long work week and just wanting some chow mein. I ordered the shredded pork chow mein at the restaurant for take-out. When I got home I opened it and it was some sort of rice meal with egg. Not even close to what I ordered. So I called the restaurant to tell them they had given me the wrong order, and they told me to come to the restaurant and they would exchange it. Again, I don't have a car, and in any case I didn't think it was fair that I had to go all the way back to the restaurant because they had messed up. So I asked to have the right food delivered to me. The girl on the phone told me they were very busy and only had one delivery guy, and it would take at least an hour for him to bring me my food. It was about 7:30 at this point and I was hungry, but I let it go and just asked for it to be delivered ASAP. The guy shows up and gives me nothing but attitude, then demands that I give him the wrong dish they had given me. This is AN HOUR AND A HALF later, might I add, almost 9 o'clock, so of course I had eaten a bit of that dish, because I was HUNGRY and they took FOREVER. The guy proceeded to get angry that I had eaten some of it, raising his voice and saying "You should't have done that, you can't do that, why would you eat it if it wasn't what you ordered??" They NEVER told me on the phone they would want the other food BACK, and it never occurred to me that they would, because why on earth would they? It would just go into the garbage, would it not? It was COLD and definitely unsanitary if they tried to give it to someone else.
This is where it gets truly appalling. The guy then TRIES TO COME INTO MY HOUSE, and when I tell him to BACK UP he demands to use MY PHONE to call his boss. I refuse to let him do that, and then he yells at ME to call his boss and talk to her about all this. Then he demands to see how much of the food I had eaten. I showed him--probably more than half the container remained--and he said "it's almost all gone". Then he TOOK MY FOOD AND WALKED AWAY. So not only did I not get the food I actually ordered, but he took the food that I PAID FOR, so I was left with eleven wasted dollars and NO FOOD. I live in a basement suite and as he was leaving he bent down to my open window and yelled "F*CK YOU" at me through the window.
Horrified, I called the restaurant immediately and told them exactly what had just happened. The manager came on the phone and proceeded to chew me out in exactly the same way, questioning why I had eaten the food. Then she demanded I come down to the restaurant and they would refund me, but made no mention of if I would actually get my food. I refused to go down there, and then she HUNG UP ON ME.
I have never had a more awful, horrifying service experience in my life. The delivery guy was extremely aggressive and I am a young woman alone in my house--it was terrifying. And they basically stole from me because they took away the food I had actually paid for, not to mention being incredibly rude and stubborn. Worst experience ever, screw that place. Never going back again.
