Great Dim Sum!

Submitted Thursday, October 8, 2015 - 9:09pm [Dine in]

Best Dim Sum I have had in a long time! One of my Chinese friends had told me that Luxe was the best place in the area for good Chinese food, and we were not disappointed. The service was quick, friendly and we got all our food at high rate of speed! Everything we had was great, plus the sesame balls for dessert. I read a bad review about the washroom, but I didn't have to use them, so I can't say anything... I will definitely go back.

Hello,

This particular location has an "apparent" high change-over in staff, and, as a result, you will receive inconsistent service. There are time when I will get a free refill, other times, I am billed the same as a non-refill, and even at other times I am billed $160 for half a cup! This is unacceptable!

And, though the coffee is "good" - I would not say that it is at all "exceptional".

The facility is generally quite cold, and the food appears to be "big store" purchased.

Lastly, the staff really needs to understand what it means to provide "service" - and many of the staff have faces that would seem to portray "I would rather be doing something else".

If there were another location, I would go there in a heart-beat.

Not as Advertised on Groupon Deal
By ladypuck of Burnaby (2 Reviews)
Submitted Thursday, October 8, 2015 - 1:14am [Dine in]

We bought the $39 Groupon for 2 hotpot combos and went tonight. The meat, drinks, and desserts were great, and service was fast, but we were not served the veggie plates and chef's choice side dishes.

We did not discover these major omissions until we got home and checked on the Groupon site ourselves, so shame on us for failing to read the deal completely before we went, but you'd think that the restaurant would have remembered, considering that this was not the first day/night they served this Groupon deal of theirs, and all the other diners around us were being served the Groupon deals correctly and in full.

So my experience is quite disappointing, to say the least.

BEING SERVED HALF THE ADVERTISED DEAL IS NOT WORTH THE $10 TIP WE LEFT.

Do not order take out from this restaurant !
By Gross food of Maple Ridge (1 Review)
Submitted Wednesday, October 7, 2015 - 8:15pm [Take-out]

Our experience ordering take out from this restaurant was awful. I would not normally take time to write a review but I feel that I was ripped off by this place and I want to warn other people before they spend their money here. We ordered the baked meat lasagna which was cold and also tasted like a microwave lasagna you would buy from a grocery store. The cheese bread we ordered was hard as a rock and seemed like it had been left out for hours. We paid 40 dollars for this food. I feel like It would have been a better idea to go to the grocery store and buy a loaf of plain bread and a can of chef Bogarde pasta. We gave this restaurant a rating of 1 out of 5 because It was obvious that this restaurant does not care about the quality of food it sends out the door. To be fair, I don't know what the experience is like at the restaurant because I have never actually been inside but after this experience I will never eat there again.

Went there for dim sum and ordered some items off the menu as they don't have push carts there. Waited over an hour for congee and some deep fried wontons. The congee came warm, like it had been sitting there forgotten. Also we made reservations by phone at 11am, got there at 10:55am and said they didn't have our name on the list. Had to wait an hour to get seated. In total spent almost 3 hours at the restaurant just to have lunch. Will never go back

We hit Yolk's at their funky place on Hastings and Clark last weekend for breakfast and really enjoyed it. Wife had a double smoked bacon double eggs on lemon truffle hashbrowns with sharp white cheddar and I settled on their apparently famous chicken and waffles. Wife's hashbrowns were yummy, I pinch as many as I could get away with. The 2 pieces of fried chicken were juicy and crunchy and made a nice contrast with the sweet waffle. Probably the best chicken and waffles I've had in a while. Service was smooth and friendly with our chatty servers. Great breakfast experience, very reasonable prices.......we'll be back with friends while they are still at this location.

I came here late afternoon today with two friends of mine. When we entered it was like we had been back to the 80's (but every thing was updated) we were seated immediately. the waitress was VERY pleasant and chatted with us....after awhile, she took our orders.

I originally wanted to get a cheeseburger (Surprise surprise) but decided instead to get a lasange with extra cheese and a cesar salad. one of my friends got a indian curry dish, and the other one got a cheeseburger with fries. We didn't wait too long for our food.

I must say that it was impressive, the lasange was large for the price (and tasted good) my friends burger was home made as well as the fries (never tried any , but I know it was delicious just by looking at it) and I don't like curry dishes, but the other guy reported that it was good. the food was very good and the price was low, so we were happy. The waitress came again, cleared our table and again had a pleasant conversation with her. She was the best waitress I have ever had anywhere I have eaten. I know that a waitress must make some small talk with customers; but she actually seemed interested; and we could tell that she wasn't just being nice because it was her job......certainly made us feel very welcomed.

We definitely will be back.....

Came here last week with two friends. I drove with one of my friends; and apparently we had parked at a tow away zone. The waitress informed us about that; and told us we could park at the hotel and register our licence plate with them.

But anyways.....we were amazed with the ambiance. It was very nice and beautiful place. the service was great. I ordered a double cheeseburger with fries; one friend ordered a cheeseburger too and my other friend had a fish dish.....The burger was about $19 (double) it was very delicious.....home made and the fries were terrific. Oh yeah, and we also ordered a nacho platter to share....we asked for extra cheese, but didn't seem we got extra......just regular.

We had a really good time, and enjoyed some good food. Give it a try, you will like it

Bistro Wagon Rouge1869 Powell Street, Vancouver

Bistro Wagon rouge is an unpretentious bistro located by the port (Powell + Victoria). The food is pretty good. Slightly lacking in flavour for the variety of dishes we tried-saying that, I would order them again.

They don't take reservations but are pretty good seating you as soon as they can and they are realistic as to the length of your wait. It is very bistro like in the sense that you are elbow to elbow with fellow guests.

The bread came out warm and was perfectly accompanied by the pâté we shared. The hangar steak was cooked well, and bigger than expected. The mussels were slightly underwhelming but the fries and homemade mayonnaise made up for it. They had bruschetta type appetisers that went down a treat. Our friend really couldn't get enough of the beef tartar. The duck special was a pleasant surprise.

Service is great considering the restaurant is as busy as it is. The kitchen staff are friendly too and not scowly at all when you have to go past them to get to the washroom. Despite the space limitations, it is run really quite positively.

A definite recommendation to try.

Boiled ribs covered in BBQ sauce, literally mashed boiled dry potatoes, old dry vegetables steamed vegetables. Any other pub would have been better. Burgers and sandwiches do not qualify for second half price entrees. I would not have mind the terrible food if they actually honoured the 50% serving entree as advertised, but when the food is that bad and at those process we could have ate better anywhere else.

So I arrived early to meet a friend who I was waiting for 5pm dinner. The owner just stood there and looked at me. No greeting or welcome or would you like to be seated nothing. So I just sat my self down at a table, all of the tables were empty as I was the only customer. Their house is connected to the building so you can hear people talking while you are eating. The door that connects to the house is always open.

Once my friend arrived we started looking at the menu at was on the table, then the server arrived and asked us if we were ready. I ordered shahi paneer and garlic naans and the shahi paneer did not live up to my expectations in the past when I ordered it here the sauce was thick and the cheese pieces were big, this time the sauce was watery and the paneer pieces were like 1/4 of the size they used to be and they didn't put in much paneer and charged me the same price. I felt ripped off.

my friend had the vegetable biryani that was so hot to eat. He started sweating so much and then had to order raita to even it out, still the sweat was pouring out of him and he looked like he had come out of a shower. I had no idea biryani could be so unbearable.

Also, the server was not very helpful we did not feel very welcome and the food was just bland. We kept running out of napkins as most of them were used to clean off the sweat from his forehead.

If you're the sort of person who is put off by abrupt, non-verbal service without a smile just don't come here.
The first couple of times I dined here I was quite ticked by the service. I have come to realize, that's the way it is. So when the server slams down your plate without a word and quickly walks away don't be offended , that's just how they do things.

If you're a clean freak avoid this place as well. Quite frankly this is an old, dirty, greasy restaurant. Whatever you do don't take a walk to the men's washroom and peak in towards the kitchen. It's not a pretty sight.

If you can just ignore those first two things I mentioned you will probably enjoy Honolulu. Tasty, big dishes of food at a very good price. My favorite is the chicken curry.

So bring it on, slam down that plate of curry I'm ready for it!

I have driven past this little dive many a time. But today finally went in! I ordered the simpleton chicken donair. It came to me wrapped in a little bundle all hot crunchy and dripping with yumminess. It was very tasty!!! I will be back. The flavours were a perfect balance of chicken, olives , tomatoes and whatever that heavenly sauce they piut in there. The restaurant owner is quick on his feet, very customer friendly and super courteous. I love seeing little restaurants like this flourish! GO SEE HIM! He will cook you something great!

It used to be good, however, now a day, not too many customers. First of all, I don't eat pork, I ordered the #23, seafood & pork noodle soup. I've specifically asked them not to have pork.

The waitress brought me my soup and surely, there are a lot of ham (AND ONE PIECE OF SHRIMP & a shrimp cracker) in my bowl. I've told her that i ordered it without the pork and she said to pick out the pork. She said 'the next time, just ask for seafood ONLY'.

First of all, when I ordered the item on the menu (#23 seafood & pork) WITHOUT the pork, shouldn't that clue in as seafood only?

Anyway, i've told her that there's no seafood in my soup, she asked me to dig DEEPER and finally I've found a shrimp. She said, there you go.

I was so pissed...I've NEVER EVER EVER go back there again. She is rude and because of that, I will never recommend anyone to go there again.

Here is the picture of the pork that was in my bowl.

I don't understand how this place has escaped my glutenous attention. Seriously, it's a lovely brunch joint that specialises in Bennies.

There wasn't a line up when we arrived, just before 10 (Sunday) but the place filled up quickly. Seating space is a premium. Squeeze in, it's rather tight.

Service was good. We had three separate wait staff to ask for our order and quite happily gave us more time because we couldn't choose. They were speedy, to get your order, bring the food etc. The place flowed well even when it was packed.

The menu is pretty comprehensive. One bonus is that if you can choose which benny you want, you can get a half and half order. The hash browns were hot and toasty. The benny was really well done. The muffin was perfectly toasted - crunch yet soft enough to mop up the yolk.

I'll be back for sure.

Every time we come to this place, we face the unfriendly reception. It is like we come here for charity, no, we come to pay for our food. I sit down and observe this very same type of attitude toward the other customers. The service is awful, they pretend we are not here. The food is outstanding, do not get me wrong, but the service is horrible. Why only on Lonsdale location are employees' attitudes very poor, the other locations are excellent. No wonder less and less people come here. The company should train these snobby people better before sending them out to work. The company's reputation depends on these people, doesn't it?

Yet another bad meal
By Calola of north vancouver BC (2 Reviews)
Submitted Saturday, September 19, 2015 - 5:36pm [Delivery]

I used to order with them at least twice monthly, but feel that 3 poor quality meals in a row is enough to suspect the quality isn't going to be consistent any time soon. Tonight, my dish to rant about was the deep fried chicken balls. God knows I don't eat a lot of greasy food, but had a CRAVING. you know. They came semi warm, which would have sufficed had they been at all, well edible. Hard as rocks, I mean drop them from 40 feet and they wouldn't crack kind of hard. Hammering them open with my fork, I finally made my way inside and found dried up, stringy chicken that probably started as stewing fowl. I've seen better meat in a compost bucket. Brookswood is seriously lacking in the quality Chinese food department, and I've just eliminated yet another source for it. Best advice.. don't even bother.

When we arrived, water was poured quickly, but no server offered drinks (I ordered with food and the wrong size of wine arrived but I was not charged for their mistake). The bread basket was nice and the Caesar salad was interesting and enough for sharing, although it took about 30 min. to arrive. My wife ordered lamb and was told it was not available well done, I ordered steak Oscar. Then there was another long wait for the entrées to arrive. The portions were reasonable, and my wife was happy about this as she has a small appetite. My steak Oscar came without crab. I had to raise my voice for the Maître d' to come, as no server asked if the food was to our liking, and he fixed it quickly. After another wait we were able to order a dessert between us and we liked it. Finally, it took a while to get the bill, the Maître d' noticed that we were waiting to pay, and said he would bring the card machine at once, but took it to another table first. If Carvers cannot improve on service and checking food and drink matches the order, this restaurant needs another operator.

We were the first customers at the "New Buffet " at the Hard Rock Casino in Coquitlam. For seniors over 55 years young, you receive a 25% discount from the $11.99 lunch time price. With the two choices of un-made salads, lukewarm lunch entries and packaged made desserts, it's hard to get a decent lunch.
Wednesday was the first day of the Buffet in Coquitlam, so I guess they were having a few opening day
concerns.
