NEVER, Ever Again.

Poor service. Lousy atmosphere. Ordered a bottle of Pinot Gris wine and got some reusable water bottle of sparkling piss. What the heck is that??? Absolutely foul.

My wife and I then got the bill with the ADDED 18% TIP? WTF? Then go to pay and it asks what % tip again?

I get better food and service at McDonalds.

NEVER AGAIN.

I ordered the eggs benny to go, asked for soft poached, no ham and no fruit extra potatoes. Eggs were rock hard, and its not like i had to walk far i literally work 5 minutes away, i asked for soft so they would be medium when i got to work, I had extra ham and maybe 3 pieces of barely cooked potatoes. This place used to be good, but that was the worst Ive had there. Not worth what I paid at all, Id rather go to whitespot or even tim's

First off what part of it's in Surrey didn't I get? We just stopped in when driving through surrey. Omg it was the absolute worst most disgusting pub food I've ever had. The wings were VILE. Bruschetta tasteless. Veggie spring rolls just about made my husband puke. Paid over $100 for 3 people with drinks and couldn't get out of there and surrey fast enough. Do not ever go there, I'm serious.

Came out of curiosity, was looking for something close and despite the reviews ( here and on yelp) I was quietly optimistic. Well, you know what happened to the curious cat...

I guess depending on what type of lenses you're wearing this place can be described a hole in the wall, a gem, a place for cheap eats. I saw it as run down but was willing to give it a go.

Greeted by the owner, she seemed friendly enough. Unbeknownst to us, she is also the chef, the server and the one who mans the phone and till.

We ordered a #6 (beef pho) and a pork on vermicelli with spring rolls. The food came pretty quickly and there was a good selection of veg. Granted the soup for the pho was hot, it was rather bland tasting. It tasted more like hot water with a sprinkle of meat fat flavours. There was an adequate portion of meat/tripe etc. The spring rolls were thinner in diameter but were tasty, as was the pork vermicelli.

Overlooking the dirty water filled mop bucket surrounded by the flies from the garbage filled recycle pop cans in the toilet was one thing. I mean the toilet itself was clean, there was soap and an abundance of bleach and disinfectant on the shelves. Whether they are regularly used are clearly another matter. However, finding three separate black short hairs in the pho confirmed that the likelihood of us returning is nigh on slim.

Seems a shame to be honest, as other customers came in, they seemed to be regulars and were willing to overlook the minimum food health standards I'm quite partial to. The owner remembered the regulars' orders. On another table, one guy was saying that he frequents this place at least once a week - to each their own we say.

On pleasure trip in the Vancouver area 8/26 8/27/15.
Ate down the street the night before.
Went in around 2:00PM
Asked for outside seating in the shade, was seated in the sun. Asked if seating could be changed to shade, "Host said move over to the next table, almost completly sunny as well.
Finally took a seat inside.
I ordered the spicy bison pasta. Yikes. It had no flavor that my pallate liked. The bison was strange. Noodles were the High Point.
My wife ordered the chicken and waffle. The chicken was good. Waffle had an odd flavor.
The server was effective, noproblem there, but the hosts did not bring a warm feeling, too busy being cool. (Chillin).
For the money and overall experience I would pass the next time...
Cool Restroom arrangment!

We've been here twice for lunch, and it was great both times. The congee is a simple work of art, among the best in Vancouver, and you get to embellish it in different ways by ticking what you want or don't want in your congee. Their Chinese donuts are as well among the best in the city. The other standouts for us were the halibut with rice cakes; deep-fried squid tentacles, which were very fresh; and the turnip cakes, which were lighter than the usual, but with a solid texture. They have several different kinds of tea, and you have to ask what they have or specify what exactly you'd like, or else they'll just give you jasmine tea.

We had a wonderful dinner here. We arrived at 5:30 and did not have to wait for a seat. We were given a lovely window seat that was great for people watching. It’s a very busy restaurant and the tables are very close together. It is not the place to go if you’re wanting a nice romantic dinner.
The service from our server Joshua was amazing. He described the dishes very well and made recommendations of items that were his personal favorites. A nice sliced baguette was brought to our table while we perused the menu. The portions seemed to be fairly large so we decided to forgo appetizers and concentrate on the entrees. My husband had the pork rack with pulled pork poutine. It was very good. I had the beef short rib in a red wine reduction with bone marrow. It was delicious and the bone marrow was heavenly on the baguette slice. We decided not to have dessert as we were full. The service from Joshua throughout the meal was truly exceptional. When he presented the bill he had written a comment on the back of the bill thanking us and telling us that he had enjoyed waiting on us. What a lovely gesture. The menu is small but we found have many items that interested us.
We would return for sure.

My husband and I went here on our way to see a movie at about 6:30 yesterday. The parking lot didn't look too busy so we thought it would be a convenient place to have a quick dinner. We went inside and there were 3 people waiting to pay their bills and about five or six tables occupied. The person at the front counter didn't even look at us. One server who came out walked right towards us with a take out box in her hand and went to the front counter and then just kind of wandered around. As she approached, I smiled at her and she looked right at me, didn't smile back and didn't say a thing. We stood there being ignored for a full five minutes. There were no other people waiting for a table. After waiting a couple more minutes we decided to just leave. We were clearly seen walking out and still no one said a word to us.
We will never go to that restaurant to spend our money again.

As usual, we had to check out the restaurant to see what the hype was all about. One of our goals was to try the braised duck noodles and the Taiwanese beef noodles. No such luck as they were already sold out.
The place opens at 11:00 am and we got there at 12:30, had to wait 15 minutes for a table and by the time we ordered, the dishes were sold out.
Since we were already there, we ended up trying the: cold sesame noodles, the braised tripe salad and the scallion pancakes.
The scallion pancakes were light and chewy, not heavy like some places; these were very good. The braised tripe salad was just okay. There were few pieces of tripe, more cilantro and there was a little kick to the tripe for those who like things spicy. Now the sesame noodles, some may like it but for me, the noodles tasted starchy as if it wasn't even cooked yet.
Although this first visit was okay, we will have to come back and try the feature hot noodles. As for the value, based on what we ate and the portion size, it was a tad on the high side. So for now, this is a conservative review until we try the main features.

Tonight a friend and I went out for Vietnamese food. My friend had ordered a Pho'Beef; and I just had an order of chicken wings. We were seated right away, but that's as good as it good.

It took forever for a waitress to come and take our order; the food came quick.....My friend complained that their Pho was watery; and those wings? five of them for $6......and they were small. Most EXPENSIVE wings I ever had; AND the worst. I LOVE Chicken Wings, but those were GROSS. Never had I used those words "Chicken Wings and Gross" in the same sentence

We finished, of course the waitress never shows up, so we went up to pay our bill and complained....And instead of the cashier "just pretending" That she cared and just say "Sorry about your experience" tried to justify and defend the crappy food"

Not Recommended. I'll never be back and neither will she

So Thankful to the Manager

I normally do not leave reviews and just read them but I felt that I had to leave a review after my experience at Sweet Cherubim last week. There was a small issue with my order but the way the manager handled it was really nice. I was surprised at how apologetic the young lady that works there was. and maybe the manager was in a really good mood but they definitely redeemed themselves after not only correcting my order but by throwing in something to try and make it up to me. They were really nice about the whole thing. I usually feel really bad about mentioning things like that because I know how busy restaurants can get and I have dealt with my fair share of eye rolls, so this was definitely a surprise. It was extremely busy and they handled it really well. I made an account just so I could say thank you.

This is another great place to hangout in Vancouver. Excellent dining room with nice view. This was recently remodelled and it looks good. The servers were very pleasent and the food was good. I had to take some friends and they were not happy with the lunch options and had to compromise with what was available. Hope they add few more options with seafood and rice.

This is another one of Vancouvers old Restaurants and looking at it you can see the rundown. Tried the highly recommended lamb which didnt blow me away with the soggy luke warm accompaniments. The place is considerably cheap and you definitely get what you pay for. Not a place if you want to impress some one.

This is one of the Oldest Japanese restaurants in the Downtown area. Place is busy all the time. Service was pleasant and quick. Food was tasty and nicely done. I always prefer AlaCarte. Again considering the area prices are reasonable. Quality of food and freshness was outstanding. And its my go to place when I crave Japanese.

This is another one of the nicest Dining rooms in this Expensive city. Food was reasonably good but this place lacks big time in Service. Whats about this city good servers are hard to find. Or they need more training to interact and basic server skills. Please smile. Anticipate. We have to wave everytime and felt we were bothering them. Its a great location. Great room and I wish they had better service to go along with the food. Drinks were awesome.

For A Couple of Hours Our World Was Very Nice Indeed
By leonard h of Vancouver (39 Reviews)
Submitted Sunday, August 30, 2015 - 12:36pm [Dine in]

A trip down Vancouver memory lane to a Cannery spin-off, complete with dated but charming seafaring decor. Our server's nickname was Teddybear, and he was a teddybear. Glasses of wine and food portions were generous. The salmon cake appetizer was really good, big enough for two people. The Salmon Wellington was a beautiful throwback to one generation ago when Beef Wellington was the star on many menus. Flavors were subtle. The freshness of the fish was prominent because of that. Still, a little overcooked, and the pastry was not the greatest, but it was delicious nevertheless. My partner's halibut was fine.

Pink Peppercorn no doubt would have been the best restaurant in BC 50 years ago, and it sort of feels like you have stepped back in time there, but now the big gun chefs are here from all over the world, competition to be new and exciting and unique is fierce in Van, many millions are pumped into decor, and old school can't quite compete anymore if fine dining is what you're after. But I think Pink Peppercorn has most of the other guys beat in restaurant finesse, which is cultivated over time, and from genuinely wanting to bring the customer joy.

Nice but over-priced food. Exploiting it's central location
By Kelvin_Brown of North Vancouver, BC (19 Reviews)
Submitted Saturday, August 29, 2015 - 1:46pm [Dine in]

We'd heard great things of this restaurant from friends, some of whom originate from the sub-continent, so we thought we'd give it a try last Friday evening. We'd also travelled extensively through the sub-continent & love Indian food, even though western menu items tend to bare little resemblance to the Indian dish of origin. Most dishes have been modified to suit western tastes, esp. by British culinary influences.

It's centrally located in the heart of town & is relatively easy to find. It's exploiting it's location & potential high clientele turnover in the price factor, but I was somewhat let-down by the whole experience.

The place is extremely neat, clean & tidy inside. It is popular & by selecting a window table you can watch the world go by on Burrard whilst you eat.

There was a great range of food, but it was extremely expensive for what you got. One poppadum "cut" into 4 cost $3.25 & each pickle offering was $3.25. Veg. options generally start at $15.75 & meat dishes from $18.75.

I like my curries extremely hot & asked accordingly on ordering, but had to send it back because it was so bland. It was meant to be lemon & coriander-based, but was weak in flavour & lacking substance. The dish that came back was different altogether - more tomato-y based. All our meals were somewhat watery, thin & on the small size. The garlic nans were great though.

There was no draught beer. There was a good range of bottled beer, prices of which started from $7.

It was a very expensive Indian, the bill for 4 coming to $160 !

Good to have tried it, but we wont be going back.

Just go to Vaades in North Vancouver, it's tons better value for money & has an absolutely excellent range food..
