Delivery service is very poor. Ordered at 6:30 on a Sunday evening, called at 7:30 to see if order left yet, we wanted to add something to order. We were told the order had left 5 minutes ago. Called back 30 minutes later to see where it was. We were told 10 more minutes. Asked to speak to a manager was told he didn't have time to chat after waiting on the phone for ten minutes. Hostess in a rude and sarcastic voice said they'd give us 25 % off when it arrived. 8:25pm order finally arrived. Food was stone cold, sent it back. This was the third time ordering using delivery, every time either the food is cold or food missing. Remembering you pay $4.00 for the service. Never again. Customer service poor, management is seriously lacking in customer retention. New restaurant facility but it's your delivery service that needs an overhaul.
Everytime we go in the music is way to loud. They definitely need to lower it. It would be nice to here and talk to the person your with normally instead of yelling at them. Also the food is ALWAYS cold no matter what we order. Good food but it would be nice to eat hot. Boneless chicken, potatoes skins, etc.staff are a bit slow at times, gets frustrating when you see its not busy. Manager super nice though. Wish he could improve on these things especially having hot food :)
Had delivery from them once in my last visit and found their food to be decent in terms of sauce and taste. Not too over the top, but not flavourless and/or watered down either.
This time around, we checked out their locale for lunch. There was a buffet going on and we decided to give it a try. The restaurant looked clean and the number of people inside already ahead of us gave us confidence that the buffet would be good. Would have liked to have been the first ones in to get the food when it was freshly made.
Overall, the buffet was decent – flavours and sauces were really well balanced. I did find some taste lacking in the vegan/vegetarian dishes, but I my eyes were all in the chicken. Chicken tikka masala was wonderful and not overcooked to the point of being dry, which was a plus. Prices were fine for Vancouver standards.

We did the Dine Out menu at Chewies last week. It was not at all what I expected, for the location I thought it might be a bit stuffy, but it was absolutely not. The atmosphere is relaxed and very comfortable. The staff was super friendly (even though we went in the wrong door) and really knowledgeable about the food and wine. This is my best Dine Out experience so far this year, can't wait to come back.
We both started with the pork crackling which was so good, might as well call it pork crack, it was perfect. My friend had the Chicken and waffles and I went with the gumbo, both were so good. He raved about the honey butter drizzled over the fried chicken. My gumbo was so smooth and rich and smoky, it was delicious. Desserts were the potted red velvet cake and cheesecake with mulled wine poached pears, so good, not too sweet, all delicious.
There is a nice wine list, something for every palate, and very reasonably priced. We'll be back for sure, one of my new favourites.
If you are in the mood for upscale Indian food, this is the place to come. From the moment you step in, you can tell this is not your typical Indian restaurant. No lunch buffets or specials, but rather, fine tapestry and lighting adorning the walls...ie. fine dining. With Tasty Indian Bistro around my place, I have been trained to eat my good butter chicken and naan.
There were quite a few tables empty, so we scored a seat in no time. A server came after about five minutes to give us our menus, and asked us if we had been here before. I quickly learnt why we said that, as the food was not your typical Punjabi items on the menu. Quite confusing, if you have never been to a curry house.
Calamari ($11) - decently sized and accompanied by a delicious mango chutney.
Kashmiri Rogan Josh ($17) - healthy serving, very good taste of spices, chillies a little too much though. Leftovers tasted just as good the next day.
Butter chicken ($14) - I had to try it here just to compare. Gravy was a little different from what I am used to but still good.
Keema naan ($5) - recommended by the server, stuffed with pieces of minced lamb and accompanied with a sauce. Good option, but a little bit of an overkill for me after the lamb dish.
Was looking forward to having dinner with my friends (2 of them).
Service was friendly for us and ambience is good. Had a pleasant dinner and when I got home an hour later I had vicious cramps and ended up throwing up and having the runs for 2days. My friend also had the runs.
I informed the restaurant manager and he said he will look into the food quality with the kitchen. He offered a full total Amount spent as a gift coupon to the restaurant.
I don't think we will be returning to this restaurant.
Lemme just start off by saying I never really got the appeal of Chicago pizza. Seems a little...meh. It always felt like something on people in the US, or not even that, Chicago would like. So anyways, lead to another and I ended up ordering from here. 1 medium Hawaiian it was for the nite. Delivery took a little longer than expected, called to confirm my address later on. Pizza was okay and I forgot to tell them no deep dish so it came anyway. The taste was okay but I couldn't finish it because it was so big. Eating it by hand was a hassle as everything was spilling so I had to use an excessive number of napkins to pick it up.
I always thought Asian food, especially Cantonese/Vietnamese would be a safe choice in this city. With the number of family run, authentic joints Vancouver has, I thought one could not go wrong?
WRONG. It was nearing 11pm and nothing much was open (or, everything was closing) and because of all the hush-hush, our stomachs were rumbling for dinner. In our quest to satisfy our hunger, we found this place. We decided to stop here because a) it was open 24/7 b) it was not empty, which made us think it was a safe bet and c) they had pho. I mean, who can say no to pho?
I would consider it to be substandard even for a place that is always open. Not only was it too stuffy and crowded to move around, but we must have been there for a good 15 minutes before we even got out - barely put together - menu. The thing was falling apart. Should have taken it as a foreshadowing, because the food and service was no better. Phos would arrive randomly, mine must have come 20 minutes after everyone else's and asking the server for anything would get you an eyeroll and an attitude. I can understand working late in the night is not the best, but I think we can all agree to put on our best behaviour.
I'll give this one a pass next time.
My girlfriend and I have heard great things about Chewie's, so we decided to give it a try tonight for Happy Hour. The selection was great and the atmosphere was top notch.
The drinks and oysters came quick as well. However, we were appalled to find a worm on one of the oysters' shells. It was the last one we ate, so we were definitely not at ease when we thought of the 9 other ones we had already ingested. We alerted one of the waiters immediately, who brushed it off saying "oh yeah, we get those some times!". Although it was in a joking manner, I don't think this is really an acceptable situation.
Staying on the topic of oysters, we ordered the Rockefeller oyster appy, and I was welcomed with a mouth full of sand. I could individually pick out the pieces of sand and even tiny rocks.
All oysters aside, the crab cakes were incredibly mediocre and with no taste, even with the complimentary sauce. Never have I had an experience like this at a restaurant, and it'll no doubt influence my decision in visiting a Chewie's again.
We ate here for our anniversary dinner. Our reservation was for 6 and though I must admit we came a little late we still got our spot! This was our first time and it was very nice, perfect for the occasion but also very trendy. he setup of the restaurant, very chic and modern which made it even more special. We got Dhan as our server and he was amazing. I had trouble choosing what to eat because the menu was a little different than what I am used to but he really helped. Oh and the food was amazing! I really liked the mussels with the curry. Lots of blends of Indian foods whose names are hard to remember but whatever they put in the fish's seasoning did wonders to the taste. Thankfully it wasn't too quiet so we could still get to talk and have enough noise cover us up.
Miura gives exactly what it offers: good, clean waffles in a good, clean and trendy environment. I've been coming here since college and have been hooked since then. The style is that you come in, order up front and pay and then sit down to eat. Very laid back, yet organized. I am a sweet tooth so I usually come for the waffles as they are warm soft, and super light but there are also sandwiches. Try the CFC and the bulgogi sando.
As the biggest dimsum fan ever, I am a little sad to write about this place. Sun sui used to be the place to get quality dim sum at a fair price in a lovely location. Unfortunately, as my last two visits have gone to demonstrate, the place has slowly been taking a nose dive. What used to be the epitome of dimsum and the standard for it across the city has taken a turn for the worst. We came for a lunch reservation only to find the whole thing subar. The food, from the duck to the shrimp and daikon cakes left a lot to be desired, and the service was very slow. There are place in Vancouver with better prices and service.
This cantonese family style restaurant with banquet like meals has so much potential, and I know they can do better than this.
I was very surprised to see such negative reviews from other people. I have picked up take out from here a few times, and it's soon yummy. Especially the Greek salad dressing!!!!! I had the chicken souvlaki every time, so I cannot comment on other dishes. But it's really juicy and delicious.
Heard the rave about this place before and had never tried it out, some of my Indian friends said the buffet was really good so with a good word on it I took a leap of faith. Seemed like a safe Indian place and it had been a while since I had spicy hot food so I said "why not?" After my Friday night shift I decided to call in and order and just watch a movie to relax.
The person on the phone took my order rather quickly and even gave me suggestions. Not that I needed because I am all for the chicken tikka. I also got the chana chickpeas with rice to have some food for the next day. If only the delivery came as fast as the order.
The chicken tikka was alright but a little too unspicy, I must admit I was expecting more but maybe I should have ordered an extra level. Dunno if they make difference between the restaurant food and the one they deliver but I think a bit of taste was missing from the food.
This Italian deli is right at the north side corner opposite the Slivercity movie theater on Schoolhouse Street in Coquitlam. Lots of seating. Very friendly and helpful staff. Hand made sandwiches, desserts, coffee and other products. This deli also offers groceries. Great little place to get a sandwich before going to see a movie. Highly recommended. I will go back often.
I went there a couple days ago for lunch. I have been there before and had their porchetta sandwich which is very good (meat and bread is still better). I had there pasta once (gnocchi) which I wasn't overly impressed. The place is cute reminds me of a typical osteria you see in Italy. I was there with a friend and I ordered the soup and my friend ordered rigatoni pasta with a cream mushroom sauce. The soup was very filling and good but the pasta was average at best. You could tell that the pasta was precooked and overcooked. This in my opinion is unacceptable in an Italian restaurant or maybe I am spoiled. The sauce in the pasta was good but with overcooked pasta it took away from an otherwise good experience. Campinolos Roma on Hasting still my favorite. I saw a pizza come out of the oven and it look good. I will be back but only for the sandwiches and to try to pizza. The place was busy and the service was good.
Came here about a month ago; to get a 6 inch veggie sub. I saw that they had a promotion that if you buy a $25 gift card; that you get a free 6 inch sub. I thought "Hey, that's a good deal" but was pondering and wondering if I should go for the deal (and the cashier could see that I was debating)
Anyways, I decided to go for it; and only after the $25 transaction; did the cashier tell me that they would sign a silly receipt (as opposed to just loading extra money on the gift card) stating that I could get a free 6 inch sub and it HAD TO BE AT THE STORE. After she told me that I told her I wasn't interested in the deal and to just refund the gift card (As that particular Subway is generally out of the way for the most part)
Anyways; the cashier then told me, that she could NOT refund me since transaction was done. I told her that she should had told me this information prior to selling me the gift card, as she knew I was debating.....She could tell that I was upset (no yelling or anything, but im sure she knew by my tone of voice)
Generally, I am not too hard headed and will accept an apology with effort (even if it is fake) but she was like "Oh my gosh, oh my gosh".... I know she is only an employee, and must follow company policies and procedures, but she should at least brough the manager or floor manager out of thier office to talk to me....and if they were not there; then ask me to contact them later
Anyways, went a step further (telling her I would be contacting head office regarding this) so I did.....all it got me was an apology (probably fake) and explaining the promotion to me (Which I already knew) Oh yeah, and they neglected to tell me, that the 6 inch was only good for that store
I think I will go out of my way to not come to this location again. Anyways, fair is fair,. The food is good, and they do let you use the washroom (even if you are not buying anything)
We have been longtime customers of the other 2 Biercraft locations. Since the UBC location opened we've been there twice, the most recent time was last night. We had friends come-in to Vancouver and we're looking for a place to go for dinner and drinks.
When we arrived the host table was empty so my husband went to locate a person to assist us. When the host came to the door she asked our name though the restaurant only seemed 1/2 full. She then went to see if there was a table ready for us and we were seated. After 10 min. we had a server approach our table, leave glasses of water and say nothing. After 10 more minutes the host that greeted us at the door and seated us came to the table to ask us if a server had taken our drink orders. When we told her that our drink orders hadn't been taken she stated that she was going to take them since our server was MIA. Once the drink orders were in, a different server came to let us know that she was also going to be a server for our table. We placed our food orders with her ordering; wings, calmari, baked Brie, fish tacos and beet salad. We also orders ribs thought they were not in stock on a Saturday night at 7:45pm. All the food arrived in timely manner after it was ordered and was of good quality ( as it should given the price.)
After our food dishes we clear we orders another round of drinks. Once they were finished the focus around us seemed to be on cleaning. We were not asked if we wanted another round. We sat waiting for 20 min. With the server not coming back to the table my husband went back to the original woman who sat us (she was now behind the bar) to let her know that we would like our bill since we had been sitting with empty glasses and we wanted to settle our bill and move onto the next place. My husband let her know of our displeasure with the serve. She acknowledged what he had said by saying "ok" though didn't ask if we wanted another round.
This place has potential to be so much better. We are not students and are professionals out for the night. The next place got the money from us the Biercraft could have. Improving customer service could go a long way.
The whole experience here was very disappointing. The ambiance is okay. They had music playing but they had absolutely no customers other than my husband and I on a Friday evening so it just seemed weird. I did not care for the music and it seemed very loud since it was just the 2 of us. We were there for 1 ½ hours and we did not see any other customers while all the other restaurants on Hamilton were bustling. There were a couple of other people that came in later on in the evening but I think that they must have been friends of the owner because they were sitting at the bar and they were eating with the staff. When we arrived we said that we wanted to have happy hour as it was 5:30 and there was another 30 minutes left on happy hour. We looked at the menu and did not see any happy hour menu so we had to ask our server (same guy who greeted us). He pointed out the wines that were available during happy hour and was about to walk away. I asked him about appetizers that had happy hour pricing and he told us what was available. If you have happy hour you should have happy hour menus and not be so reluctant to tell your clients what your happy hour specials are.
Our meal was reasonable as we stuck to a couple of glasses of wine and ordered 2 appetizers off the happy hour menu. We had calamari, a happy hour special. It would not be worth the regular menu price. They were very anemic looking calamari and just not very interesting. We also had the chicken wings off the happy hour menu. They were not very interesting and with just 8 small wings on the plate definitely not worth it if you were paying full price. The prawns were okay but didn’t have a great deal of taste. The best appetizer we had was the bone marrow but no better than Flying Pig on the next block and the rest of the food at Flying Pig is far superior.
Overall we were very disappointed and would not return.
We ordered a second glass of wine before happy hour was over and waited and waited. Finally I interrupted our server while he was standing at the bar talking to one of his co-workers and asked if we could have our wine. It’s not like they were busy.
K and I ate here on Wednesday at 5pm. We were in West Vancouver for a job and decided to just grab some dinner instead of waiting to when we got home.
As we waited for a table, the waiter told us this was a new place. Go figure, as I had never seen it before. The interiors and modern and chic, just the opposite of what I am used to at an Indian restaurant. This gave away I was in for a real treat.
The waiter gave us some fish appetizers to try out as he got our food ready. I can't recall the name, but it had a tinge of mint to them. Delicious! The restaurant was half-full by then, and then came the main dishes. I ordered a kebab and K went for the Rogan Josh upon the waiter's recommendation. My chicken kebab was delicious, and K really liked the twist the rogan josh was given to hers. This definitely is an upscale Indian restaurant that is not shying away from trying new things out. A couple of drinks later, we were more than impressed.
Will come again to try some more dishes.
