The chef left Daniels (along with the African Peanut soup), and we were wondering if the place was still any good. The menu has definitely shifted and there seems to be less selection - but the Chicken Korma and Butter Chicken were generously portioned and full of flavour, accompanied by the best naan I've ever had. Nice tomato/onion/cucumber/cilantro salad on the side. The server seemed to be the chef as well, and it all had a nice homey feel.
I'd go back just for the chicken!
My partner and I can here for brunch the other day. When we got our menus, he asked for a water and a mocha, and I asked for a tea. Our hot drinks came within a reasonable amount of time, but the waiter forgot his water. I had to ask for a new cup because there was a brown film on the inside of mine, which I was able to scrape away at with a spoon (to confirm it wasn't just coffee staining). The lady who replaced my cup moved my spoon form the dirty cup to the new one. WTF? I overheard the table next to us asking for a clean utensil, as well. Maybe they should be checking their dishes when they come out of the washer.
I had the eggs benny with bacon instead of ham. My food was lukewarm when it arrived. The bacon was about twice as long as the English muffins. It would have been nice if they'd cut it to fit so trying to cut and eat it wasn't such a hassle. The Hollandaise was lumpy - it looked like the egg had been scrambled, which indicates it had not been prepared correctly. The Benny tasted great but the temperature made it less palatable. The potatoes that came with did not appear to be seasoned at all.
My partner had the chorizo scramble. His was also lukewarm, and absolutely no attempt was made at presentation. It looked like food that had already been chewed. The salsa was cooked into the scramble instead of added after, which made for not only a damp scramble, but a soggy bagel underneath.
I would probably not come here again unless someone else was buying.
We do not give up easy so we tried it again, only to be dissapointed again. There was lots of staff on location but the service was slow and did not make sense. The pop was flat. The food came out at different times. The table set up with hap hazard. The restaurant was dirty. And the prices are high. For the past 15 years or so, something has always been wrong with this location. It seems as if that the attitude there is that they just dont give a dam. They rely on sports teams and families on the weekends and could care less about overall service. We will try again in another few years and post an update.
We finally had a chance to try out Burgers-Etc. Of course we did not get a burger this time round. Rainbowcrab had the smothered fries with pulled pork. She loved it! Raved about the pork, the bbq sauce and the fries. The sauce is sweeter tomato based kind with a good kick.
I had the combo which was on sale for only 13.99$ It came with 2 meats of my choice, fries and coleslaw.
I chose ribs and beef brisket. They were both very good. Tender, good flavour. I like my brisket a bit thicker cut, but still very good. I would go back again for sure.
One draw back of this place, rainbow crab says the woman's washroom is horrid. The door does not create any privacy, as it has a wide gab and does not go below your knees as you sit... HUM...
We stop here quite often for breakfast. I'd say most of the breakfast items have been ordered and, for the most part, everyone is happy with the quality and consistency of the food. The prices are not the cheapest around but for around $10 or so you get a good meal. Service is generally attentive and the food is fairly quick to come out. Ambiance is alright, though the choice and volume of music playing may irritate some people on occasion and the place is a bit dark. A solid choice, recommended.
We went for a nice dinner after work. Unfortunately most of the restaurant had been taken over for a wedding. Only one small area was closed off for the other people. Unfortunately the whole night felt like the other diners were secondary, with no reduction in prices. They should have just closed the place for the night rather than trying to do both. There was no music at all. Then we were treated to the "check check check" of the microphone for 10 minutes. After that we got to listen to rude and unfunny speaches from wedding people. Fun atmosphere for us when we couldn't even see what was going on because of the divider. The small dining room was very open and mostly empty the whole time too . The carpet was stained. Then they came at 7 and said they hoped we didn't want anything else because the kitchen was closing to concentrate on the wedding. Good thing nothing on the small dessert list was interesting.
The food was really very average at best. After reading the reviews here I was hoping for much more - like "fine dining". The salmon burger was not a "burger" but rather a filet (very fishy flavored sockeye) which fell apart and was not coooked properly in the middle. It was supposed to have some very flavourful "aoli" but I could taste nothing but overpowering fish. It was also supposed to have "grilled pineapple" which at this place and price I would expect nicely grilled caramelized pineapple - NOPE a slice from a can warmed up on a flat top. I was not a fan - it was over $14. The chicken burger similarily was a chicken piece with brie and avocado which should have been delicious but didn't work. It was not finished. Fries were average to BORING.
I did not find the reviews for this place accurrate at all. Perhaps it would be better if you sat outside on a sunny day and just drank.
I had a completely different experience than the last reviewer which is why I'm submitting this review. We went for the all-you-can eat for lunch and thought the food was very good. You can't beat the price and in addition, the service we received was incredible. Our server was very attentive and always checked in on us (we were in a private booth) to see how we were doing, if we wanted anything else and to clear the empty plates from our table. Our food came out quickly and we will definitely come again. There are some items that are more delicious than others (i.e. the chicken teriyaki was not my favorite), but there are so many tasty items that it doesn't factor into my overall impression.
I live down the street from this place and sadly can't visit it as much as I'd like (my husband has a whole bunch of allergies that make most Asian cuisines tricky to navigate) but whenever I do go there I'm always really pleased with everything I order. The prices could maybe be a BIT cheaper but short of going all the way to Commercial I'm unlikely to find anything competitive in the area.
Their dim sum menu is small but really good, and their hot pot is super-tasty. On the rare occasions when I have enticed my husband to join me they've done their best to accommodate his allergies and serve him up a decent meal. Their milk tea is also really good. I just wish I could haunt it more often!
Phoned in for takeaway....but our order was misplaced!
A good 50 minutes later to add to the insult not only were we given the wrong order but also the entree was straight out of the fridge.
We did not realize this until we started eating the food which was stone cold.
Needless to say completely put us off eating the meal.
Would not go back.
Best Greek salad ever, we had the lasagna with meat balls, meat balls tasted like meat, all in all best pasta take out we have ever had, well done and thanks.
Delivery was quick and price was fine.
Order was hot and tasty and this page kind off pisses me off insisting I write at least fifty words, some times just an honest evaluation of the product and service will work just fine, any way we loved this place.
Been going here since it opened as well as when is was on Denman. My all time favourite is the Katsu Curry. YUM!!!!! It is not the kind of Japanese curry you make at home or at your Japanese friend's place, but it's equally awesome and creamy. The Shrimp cocktail is delicious as well. We have tried almost everythign on the menu. Yes, the prices have gone up and the side salad that came included with some of the dishes is no longer there, but all restaurants that have been running a long time has had to make similar adjustments.
We have continued to go here because of the food. Sometimes, the service is lacking since there is only one staff/server in the dining room. At times, this causes her to be awkwardly rude and disrespectful. If the place is packed, you may be asked to leave before you are ready to leave! This is my only complaint.
BTW, the chef is Japanese and his wife, the server, is Korean.
This is not authentic Japanese food. Some looked like Korean style and the flavours were not authetic. I think they boast of their Kamameshi and other restaurants don't make it, but it is very bland and can be better duplicated by putting your own cuts of meat and veges into your rice cooker- better value, too. too bad. Disappointed. Will not go there again. I went there with a Japanese friend and we have never gone back.
We had lunch here today when it opened at 11:30 am and sat ourselves down. Its just a little restaurant and the atmosphere is okay. They have lunch special bento boxes for $6.99 which is really good value as the portion size is pretty decent. We both had the chicken & sashimi (4 pieces) bento boxes for $10.99 which consists of teriyaki chicken over a bed of rice, assorted tempura (1 prawn & a few vegy pieces), The tuna and salmon sashimi were very cold, fresh & of a creamy texture which was so delicious! You also get 6 large pieces of California roll and I decided on the yam rolls instead which are tasty. If you want miso soup,its $1.00. It doesn't take long to get your food. We will go back again soon...
Went out for brunch with my friends on a weekday afternoon. The service was really good, no complaints there. I got a pick-a-pancake combo which comes with two pancakes, two eggs, two bacon strips or sausages and hash browns. The food was pretty good, but nothing I couldn't make at home. So for about $12 I could have made more food at home but for a day out with friends it was okay value, there are more expensive restaurants with smaller portions. The pancakes are delicious and I love all the syrups they have to choose from. Would come here again, but not more then twice a year because it's honestly too much to spend on breakfast food you could easily make yourself at home.
Went with friends on a weekday evening for dinner. We ordered two pizzas, the Prosciutto & Arugula and the Salsiccia, split between the four of us which was enough to fill us up. The pizza was delicious and the service was good. I honestly can't think of any negative comments to say... the price is fair, for downtown Vancouver restaurant prices, since usually pizza is split up between two or more people. Would definitely come here again if I were craving pizza while hanging out with friends downtown.
First off if you don't have the discount card don't bother with this place.
Reserved a table for 5 adults and 1 child for 12 noon. We waited 40 minutes because the chubby lady with the glasses at the front decided to let the regulars in first. Ordered food and waited another 30 minutes. How do I know 30? The time is written on the order receipt. Empty containers were not cleared off the table. Based on these things I gave the service a poor rating.
Food and value ties together. They make up the difference on the discount by charging a bit more than other places. Plus they shrunk the portions. Food taste was decent for the hai gow and Sui Mai. The Chinese donut wrap was a tad over oily. 2 dishes came out luke warm.
Ambiance was nice. If you decide to have a wedding here there is unobstructed views. Restaurant is a tad on the smaller side compared to some others in Richmond.
As we were leaving miss chubby gives a frown and rolls her eyes at my mother and mutters some negative remarks. Nice service /sarcasm
Overall I would give this place a pass and look somewhere else for your dimsum craving.
lastly not related to the restaurant. Parking is terrible here. There is a complex on the mckim side you can park at. Street parking meters don't take new coins. Example: I paid $3.75 for 1hr 27min of parking.
This place is so loud the noise of people's conversations is louder than the TV's or music! You cannot talk to a person at your table without yelling. The menu is terrible. No suitable appetizers so we settled for wings and fries. (Vaporized vinegar on the fries--no big deal--very little difference to regular fries) The main course menu doesn't offer much either. Our group had the Beef Wellington, Yorkshire Beef Dip and the Angus Sirloin. All the food was good, but nothing to rush back for. When we got outside our ears were ringing. We won't be returning.
Myself and two friends ate here last night. The waiter was O.K. Not very personable. Two of us had the Ribs the sauce was wonderful but the Ribs where tough. They came with Mac and Cheese and it was excellent. One of us had the Stir fry with Chicken, not much flavour and the Chicken was tough and very dry. Not sure if I will go again any time soon.
Last Saturday I was craving pasta .
I had not been to Anton's for few years now. I used to go there a lot but since I moved away from the area it was not easy to get there , anyhow , I decide to go and have a big dish of pasta. But to my surprise it was not as good as I remember it . Maybe since I have tried many good restaurant in town , my taste had changed or maybe we have such a wide variety of good food and restaurants in our town now .
It defiantly filled me up but I still am in search of better pasta bar.
I love to go to a restaurant that make quality food with super fast service.
Usually we have to wait 20 min for our food to be ready at any sushi place . But not this place
Your soup is on your table within 5 min and so as your sashimi .
Also their teriyaki dishes are prepared mush faster than other sushi places I have been too
Over all a very satisfying experience
